These days are at a different level tho. It's like hold up let me be uptight.... U know what, my baby's crying (...Like fr.. she's just throwing things on the ground & doing half hand stands just bc. I think she's only mad bc she can't grind her skull into my rib cage. Prob also mad that I didn't leave it on a repetitive cartoon w/ all her familiar jams) & she's just acting like for no real reason... But I'm honestly staying focused here. Sigh @ the anxiousness of unemployment
Tip from a video guy: Raise your laptop camera (or whatever device you're using) to your eye height (a stack of books will work). That way you're looking straight into the camera and not down at the other person (which can leave a negative, subconscious impression of dominance). Plus, the camera isn't looking up your nose (which is not very flattering). This will also keep you from slouching or hunching your shoulders. Good luck everybody!
Absolutely. Forbes totally missed the mark on this one. Also, the lady speaking is not looking into the camera. But she's the one hiring, not the one being hired, so that's that.
I love the way you speak. The other videos giving interview tips are too hyper and I got more nervous watching them. Yours is so calming and I feel like I can do my best. Thank you.
I have my 1st interview in over 7 years on Monday and to top it off it is on zoom. So I am researching the best tips, I am so nervous and excited at the same time. It’s in a area of work that I’ve never done before, which is what I wanted - a career change!
Positive body language seriously matters ☺ you'll pass the interview if you're positive and happy!! cause they want to work alongside happy bright people. Also honestly be interested in the company and like the company.
At least one of the best video interview RUclips videos I've seen, especially since it's so relatively short, and it has a number of tips that are good for any interview, whether video or in person.
I have a Zoom Interview on Friday and honestly I am a little bit nervous, I prefer in person instead!! I will follow these tips to have a successful interview! 👍
This was very calming, as well as helpful. Very nervous to do an interview this way as I am a people person and this is the first interview I've had in years.
You are so welcoming, soft spoken and easily engaging! I would love to have you as my interviewer! Preparing for an upcoming zoom interview and glad I stumbled upon this video. :)
Ok, the first thing I noticed when viewing this video , which is a BIG NO NO, is that you are not looking at the CAMERA ....it is extremely important you look at the camera so it can feel you are talking to me personally, especially with an online interview, this is a HUGE mistake MANY RUclipsrs make.....but just to keep it on a positive note, the rest of the content was excelente, great advice, it's a THUMBS up :o) ! Thank you!
I just did one and I didn't see the employer. I'm not used to this face timing zoom thing to begin with. Me talking to a dot feels silly. Sigh, I'm not a smiler either. I'm a looks off into the distance to think
Got an interview in 20 mins and this video really made me feel more at ease and know what to do during the virtual interview. Thank you for this video and we'll see if I get the job :)
When Peter Cushing was portraying Grand Moff Tarkin in the original Star Wars movie, he wore his favorite pair of bunny slippers whenever they were shooting a scene where his feet were not in the frame.
This is excellent..I've had 3 zoom interviews this year and failed them all 😞 I know it's my on camera performance..I just seem bored and uninterested. The habit is because I am in IT I am also so focused on the screen and whats going on, it seems I don't pay attention to the outside world, or even think about sitting there talking to piece of plastic and metal with no real person physically in front of me. I'm going to think of it as acting with facts for that 30 min even if you're not happy and don't care pretend like it's the best thing in the world...authentically of course
Interviews care too often about interviewing skills. You won't get paid to be a candidate, but far too often the interview process seems geared to assuming that the interview skills are what matters. I have worked in a wide range of fields which include speaking in front of groups, following, leading, mentoring, learning on the job. engaging with customers, working independently, finding common ground, advancing a controversial agenda, creating, thinking on one's feet, demonstrating one has prepared, etc. I would say almost never did my job performance depend on me being someone who interviewed well! This is a cruel reality of life. It is compounded by the fact it is hard for companies to sustain a good candidate selection process that does not induce good candidates to give up or take other job offers.
Thank you for this helpful video. However, I'd like to suggest the presenter to make more eye contact with the camera. This is an important way to engage the interviewer (and the audience of this video).
Somehow this prepare approach does not work for me. I have done this and I appeared over rehearsed and not myself. When I just let myself go I developed a great rapport with the two interviewers on zoom and ended up getting it. Thinking on your feet in the moment is my thing.
Start the interview off by getting the interviewers full name & address that's on their drivers licence . Level playing field . Then do a police criminal record check on them .
I feel same way all my zoom interviews go bad idk if I am doing something werid on camera, I feel in person is less nerve wrecking that video interviews.
Zoom interviews are not preventing you. You may not be doing well, but you seem to the one who thinks you must know the other person. Don't try to know them. You don't even know your best friends as much as you might think, so stop thinking ANY interview is about that. Just sell yourself. Ask yourself, if you were a typical interviewer, what questions would you ask and what answers would interest you. Give those answers if they are not lies or significant distortions. I am betting you feel uncomfortable or want a relationship with that interviewer. Guess what? Neither of those things matter. Do the danged job and you'll get a job. Getting in your own way, so to speak, might seem easier than not getting in your own way, but you have to trust in getting through the process regardless of discomfort or compulsion. (Trust me, nearly all of this experience this and even sabotage ourselves at times.) Worry about feeling authentic or comfortable with your friends, not your job. If you feel like you have impostor syndrome, you should! That is normal. Let it be.
And don’t use the audio-video used by Forbes. Audio that doesn’t make you sound like you’re in a container and video that’s crisp and clear will be less distracting
I hate doing interviews online, I feel better actually going somewhere and snaking the persons hand and not having to worry about your background, your audio setting and all of that, just get there and answer questions
Stop looking at the person on the screen because you're not making eye contact. look directly into your computer's camera you'll make eye contact. It matters. also, place laptop with camera at eye level....
A quality video. Well made and informative. Interestingly , most actors are female. Two of the three male actors are shown in a negative light. Accident?
Once again Forbes knocks it out of the park! Thanks for posting such an awesome video! I definitely agree that folks should be conscious of whats in view because the background is basically part of the interview attire now. I also think that its important to be aware of your body language during the interview including posture and resting face. Thanks a ton for the super informative video. Depending on the role level, mainly - Ask about any strategic changes that are imminent in the company that would impact on the expectations of the role you're applying for. What's the organizational culture like? Are there things expected of the role not in the job description? And to really be different (and brave), ask: now that you have met me, are there any aspects of my experience or capability that you still have questions about?
For the first time in my life I've been told that I didn't SEEM interested enough in the job and wasn't enthusiastic lol. I can't stare at a camera I have to stare at the person while I speak. Zoom f,d everything up for me at least.
Maybe for the future, or anyone else with this problem, try to have the camera directly to the right of the screen, or in front of the middle of a large screen. Would require a separate camera or device, or maybe a laptop/tablet on it's side. Would want to trial it first with someone on the other end to see how natural your eye contact & movement is.
