      @@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Just got the new camera Just a tad AWESOME! but my brain hurts a bit. I can operate the Canon OS with both eyes tied behind my back. Being new to Fuji the OS is quite different I have watched your vid a couple of times have followed your settings except I love touch screen. one thing not covered was What is the most appropriate or default DR ( dynamic range ) setting as I have not seen this before on canon . I know what DR means but can't mentally correlate 100, 400 and auto to an appropriate F stop range or any type of log setting (video) In addition how do you swap out functions on the quick screen. as with the 8 icons I want to ditch the flash disable and replace for IBIS control as I shoot a lot of interiors and blend separate flash and ambient Exposures so IBIS does not help.
      Also can't figure out how to apply the film simulation modes in post eg Velvia etc is that specific to capture one or do we download somewhere for Lightroom and ACR.

    Interestingly I have recently discovered that you can set put the self timer status to be remembered by the camera as you turn it on or off or it goes to sleep. Very useful in landscape where I use self timer all the time and hate to reset it as the camera goes off. Available on the XT4 GFX 100,100s and 50R. Did not find in o. The XT3. Don’t know about other models

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer

    Good video Except your MS (mechanical) shutter recommendation. That is going to cause blurred photos from Shutter Shock. The EF (electronic front curtain) setting will convert over to MS above 1/1250 for the bokeh and exposure benefits for fast lenses you spoke of...Fuji knows this, they built the camera, and that is why EF is the default setting on the 100S.

    I’m coming from the x100v and one thing that really put me off with GFX100s is the PASM dial. They had the chance to do something better here and transfer some of that powerful control over from the x100v, but they played it safe I think.
    One thing that I noticed, is that it does not have Aperture Program Shift (ability to override the apperture on Program mode). Not sure if this is a bug or they purposely disabled it in latest versions. I didn’t upgrade first thing and Im pretty sure I had this option in v1.0 So what I end up doing is quickly switching to Aperture Priority when I need to override it. This is where the top left Q menu item comes in handy when you’re working with custom modes.
    I think they took the magic away from the shooting modes. I’ll probably get used to it, but I definitely get more pleasure from my x100v.
    Thanks for the recommendations and would love to see another video maybe! Like your favourite ISO settings, D Range, general tips and tricks or whatever you find interesting!
    Cheers!

      The design is definitely aimed at pulling in users of other systems. For those who came into photography with the DSLR style controls, it can be a little daunting to look at Fujifilm's retro styled dials, it seems. Personally, I find them much of a muchness and switch back and forth with no troubles at all.
      Aperture Program Shift works just fine on mine, so perhaps check your command dial settings to make sure they're set correctly.

      @@DylanGoldbyPhotographer I went from a DSLR to x100v and found it way more intuitive and fun, then went to Gfx100s and felt like I was going a step backwards. But what a beast of a camera… I love it!
      Interesting about the Aperture Program Shift… I’ve gone through the dial settings and it doesn’t even have it as an option. Says only Aperture (not program shift). I’m wondering if you have the latest version. I’ll look into this further…. Thanks!!

    Hi Dylan, useful video, not least to sanity check my understanding and process for doing the same. You may already know this, but other users may find it helpful; did you you can also back up all your camera settings to your computer using one of the bundled Fuji software programs (can’t recall which one but I’ve never much use for them anything other than this). If you have multiple bodies it makes it super quick to have set up consistency, or if you should loose one (or both) 👍

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  3 года назад

      I have used this process before. But, I always like to go through the complete menus of a new camera in case things have changed or new settings that are useful to me have been included. It's just part of my process when it comes to getting a new camera out of the box.

    • @stephendixon8575

      @@DylanGoldbyPhotographer for sure, that’s why I still found your video so useful; both to see what options have changed or been added, and to hear an objective view on how others use them. Handy to have a back up. Not sure with the GFX100s I will ever be in the situation of having multiple bodies, but it is handy fir cheaper bodies too like my X-H1, especially seen as you can pick them up used super cheap now for such an incredible camera.

    Hi, I have never used a Fuji camera until now. I am having a terrible time The front and rear dials don't do anything. I shoot 90% of the time on aperture priority. The only way I can use it on this camera is to turn the aperture ring. I can't assign it to the C on the ring.

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  3 года назад

      That's going to vary camera to camera and lens to lens. I'd recommend looking in your manual for how your camera should behave and checking the command dial settings in the menu to assign functions to those. They are context sensitive, so you may not be able to make use of them in certain situations.

    Thanks for the detailed look! This would be my first Fuji so any settings details are helpful. I have a 100S on preorder and should arrive this month; i would love to get this question answered before i pay the full amount for it:
    In the C1-6 modes, can you save ANY of the Quick menu options to each C mode? Specifically, could I have C1 be RAW, and no crop, but then have C2 be Raw+JPEG, with a Film Sim, and also a smaller crop? My thought is, I shoot wide a lot, and i will miss my Sony 12-24mm lens, but if I can set a smaller 35mm or other crop in a C mode on the 100S, i could use one of the Laowa wides as a prime 17mm, but also make it a 22mm equivalent or something just by switching to a different C mode on the dial, without switching lenses. Does that make sense? lol. That would be super helpful before i go drop the money. Even if you don’t make a video about it, I’d love to hear a comment on the possibility. Thank you!
    Lastly, btw, you sold me on the Laowa in your earlier review! I am thinking that plus the 32-64 to start, then the 250 later, followed by the 1.4x extender.
