You've probably heard this by now, but the 2 year Apple Care+ can migrate into a rolling contract when it runs out. My soon to be retired 2018 11" iPad Pro (which I bought with 2 years AC+) is still under Apple Care+ until my new one arrives.
I live in the UK though - maybe it is different in the US?
