- Welcome to the Yu-Gi-Oh Character Roulette! Each week @MBTYuGiOh and I will spin a wheel to build a deck from packs featuring cards used by anime characters throughout Yu-Gi-Oh's history, and then we’ll craft 1 card of each rarity from our pack to round out our decks. After a character’s pack wins the match it’s removed from the wheel, while the losing pack is given a second chance at victory! Tune in every weekend for new episodes of Character Roulette!

I know that some viewers are a little disappointed that Bakura's pack has a lot of non Bakura cards in it so let me try to explain:
Character Roulette isn't necessarily about using the exact decks that these characters used, but rather it's a chance to divide the wheel in a new way (as opposed to Master Roulette which is just every single pack)
With DM specifically I was having a hard time picking a 10th character. It came down to Bakura (good pack) or Zigfried von Schroeder (borderline unwinnable pack). I ended up on the Lab pack because Valkyries are so, so bad.
Of course, I do appreciate the feedback and I'll try to be more careful about pack selection going forward. Luckily I think this episode still turned out fun so I hope you can enjoy it :)

I think the idea of "skipping" a spin result doesn't mesh too well with the idea of finding out who the worst character is. It's a self-fulling prophecy. The last characters on the wheel will be those who have been consistently skipped because Dzeeff and MBT think it would perform badly.

True, you're giving an extra chance for "good" packs to be picked first if you always respin the "bad" ones.
That seems to make sense except that... the worst pack would still be the last one, due to that not affecting the removal rule, so... at the end you would still end up with the worst decks (in such limited format).
It's for fun and the chances of getting every pack are still the same.
People getting salty about Lab being a good trap deck even when no floodgates are used will never not be funny. Anyway, I like the rule of being able to craft a card of each rarity after the pulls, very often that's the difference between a deck that works and one that doesn't, and makes the games more interesting as a result, maybe consider something similar for Saga (but only the first time a pack is opened).
I'm pretty sure people just dislike that this was Mai vs Labrynth instead of Mai vs Bakura(i think Zoma was even literally the only actual Bakura card in MBT's whole Deck XD).
@@gunchar06 Honestly, even the Harpies is mainly cards never used by Mai. I think Sisters, Egotist, Cyber Shield, and Triangle are the only cards she actually used, and two of those were meme picks. Mai has the benefit of a heavily supported archetype, while Bakura has a handful of jank legacy support.
@@navypukevomit Yes but it's at least still mostly an actual Harpie Deck, and pretty much how a Darkside of Dimensions style Deck for Mai would actually look like, while MBT on the other hand pretty much just played a random Meta Deck with zero connection to Bakura(who even in a Darkside of Dimensions style scenario obviously never would all of a sudden play Labrynth).
And i know it's not actually that serious, but with the concept of finding out which character has the worst Deck, Bakura literally just cheated Mai out of an easy win XD...

Nothing shows power creep better than an archetype specifically designed to tear apart backrow decks losing 2-0 to a backrow deck.
Well to be fair, Harpie's Feather Duster and especially Feather Storm(this card literally allows Full Power Harpie's to sometimes steal even wins from Full Power Meta Decks, which even Full Power Blue Eyes hardly ever manages to do) would've made this quite a bit more interesting.
Is duster even good against lab? The engine is almost entirely monsters (furniture servants and bosses). The parts that aren't monsters (like big welcome) are chainable
@@melissagrenier2200 Depending on the build, not really. Outside of hitting the Field Spell, pretty much every card will be chained. Or the card won't be set, until the opponent ends their turn, via the 'Furniture'. This deck was built to bring Trap Decks into a meta level.
@@melissagrenier2200 Eh it would be solid, but the real gamechanger card like virtually always if you put up Harpie's against anything even just smelling like a Meta Deck would be of course Feather Storm(can in theory even beat an Ishizu Tears Deck if absolutely all stars align).
@@melissagrenier2200 ehhh, you are right, its alright, but definitely not a must have. the only time its very good against lab is in relatively common but ultimately niche cases where they set 4-5 on their first turn and you draw duster for yours, and even then you arent winning by any stretch of the imagination, however you usually do get a decent amount ahead in card advantage

Legit, Its a series for Fun dude, Dougs not going to put 10 hours into labbing out the best deck that his pulls can make, and then spend another 10 memorizing all his plays. The dude is doing all of this in like 1 stream, because its a fun series.
I'm pretty sure he thought that harpie sisters spell was like dark magical attack and didn't even read it lol.

I just want to say that one guy in dzeeff's chat was insufferable. Misplays happen. Its one thing to point them out, but if you do nothing but complain for the entire match it just ruins everyone's day
The duels felt a bit one-sided, but I'm glad this was the matchup, it feels like the most fair Lab could be in this type of environment.
Doug's chat felt REALLY overly negative today, which is unfortunately a recurring theme sometimes - nothing against him or the content itself of course, but WOW I wish some of those chatters in particular could just... shut the hell up and let the streamers stream. Having chat constantly whining about what is very visibly happening on screen is just so annoying, and I can only imagine how much more frustrating it must be for Doug/Joseph. Like as if saying "Ban labyrynth" will make them stop mid-stream and go "Oh yeah, good point chat" and just suddenly pick new decks. Commenters truly do not understand Yugioh Series
mbt does a good job of razzing his chat for being dumb but doug is just a lot nicer of a streaming persona so he just takes the let it go approach.
Loved the time Bakura summoned Lady Labrynth in the duel against Yugi. Really one of the most iconic moments in the Anime xD
I don't think the misplay mattered Doug, no worries.
Lab just generates so much advantage the longer the duel lasts. I don't think hunting ground can even keep up with that.

It sure would have potential if they ACTUALLY PLAYED ANIME ARCHETYPES. Ah yes, Bakura's archetype: Labrynth.

@cackle529 meh. I'm not mad about it. In all fairness I can't imagine watching him attempt to setup destiny board against harpies. Or against any of the other decks for that matter. Bakura's stuff is way too telegraphed and also way too random. It's entirely possible that if he had played the deck "on theme" that it would have been miserable to watch and miserable for MBT to play. Either he doesn't draw enough of the combo to protect destiny board and Doug simply pops a single piece which destroys them all. Or, he never draws the cards required to start the setup in the first place. The likelihood that either of them ever manages to actually spell FINAL is slim at best. It's entirely likely that playing on theme Bakura would mean it ends up the final deck on the wheel. Just based on how crap the actual strategy is.
Tl;dr - The series still has potential without making them completely suffer through some of the more miserable strategies just to fully stay on theme. Still great watching them play and watching the pack pulls
@@Matthew-he6id But that's the point. Those character decks are janky. If they don't want to play them, then they SHOULDN'T ADVERTISE IT AS THEY DO. It's literally them going like "Ok let's make an anime deck tournament, but most of those decks are mega-janky so let's actually not play anime decks. If the series they came up with doesn't work for them, then come up with something else or at least don't pretend that the criticism they got wasn't warranted.

I don't normally like to roast Dzeeff due to the "haha READING" meme, but did my guy really think Harpies had an archetypal "Duster but better" card when Harpie's Feather Duster is already a "Harpie" card? That's not even a reading issue, it's a logic issue, lol.

People underestimate Harpie's Phantasmal Dragon in Sealed Format. He's (and your Harpies) become untargettable by effects and battle, and he only needs 3 lvl 4 monsters - which is easy with harpies. He can also attack directly even if your opponents put up a big wall. Most Sealed Format decks can't deal with that.
But the truth is Harpies is a LOT MORE high-roll in Master Duel than they're given credits for. Like... you **need* to pull excessively well to make sure they're decent, and I don't think people realize that.

@@anime4you355 I swear Doug has just not actually read the card lol. It's so easy to summon it in Harpies too. You basically only need Channeler and a discard card. You summon Channeler, activate the effect, get Perfurmer on board, Perfumer gets Egotist, so you get a 3rd Harpie on the board. Boom, the Dragon is live. And even if you don't have Channeler, there are ways to get to Channeler (for example Swallow's Nest)
What exactly can a Sealed Format deck do against the Phantasmal Dragon? Most Sealed Format decks do not have access to non-targetting destruction. If it targets, the Dragon is immune to it - whether that be destruction or any other effects for that matter. He's literally immune to Targetting, *and* also makes the other Harpies on the field immune to Targetting as well. And your opponent can't attack the Dragon or the Harpies either. And if they wall up, the Dragon can attack directly. That can last 3 turns, letting you deal 6k damage directly while building an board while waiting.
In a Sealed Format, this is infinitely better than Cyber Slash who always got targetted-destroyed in Doug's match or ran over in battle.

I understand not playing the Phantasmal Dragon in today's meta considering so many cards can deal with him without targetting it, but in Sealed Format, it's VERY good.

Just realized MBT is Bakura but He's not using Bakura Cards no Hades And Specially Necro Fear is this really a character duel it's just Labyrinth VS Mai Valentine 😵🤔They should add a rule that it's mandatory to play the Characters Ace to at Make it a Character Duel🤔
I think genuinely people wanted to see what the bakura cards could do vs harpie. If MBT just hit like a god, fair enough but crafting the lab stuff when u hit 2 mastery. I just think maybe readdress the crafting rules so its gotta be a chatacter card if its sr/ur.
Its your series though, id just opt to see yuya using performapal, not pend magician cards.
Well to be fair the Bakura cards realistically couldn't have done anything, i've tested several (upgraded)OG character Decks not that long ago and Full Power Harpie's made it the furthest(mid-Diamond) while i just gave up on Full Power(the term hardly even fits in this case)Destiny Board after losing to pretty much Master Duel Starter Decks several times in a row.

Nah this was more like hydrogen homb vs the Fat Man nuke(that is a power difference of multiple magnitudes btw.), except you include all of Doug's misplays in that comparison, but it was definitely Mai vs Labrynth instead of Mai vs Bakura(which would've been just as bad but the other way around though).

@@Endershock1678 People just underestimate Harpie's in general tbh, almost all the relevant Full Power Harpie Deck cards(cough especially Feather Storm cough) Doug didn't have, literally even allow Harpie's to sometimes steal wins from actual Full Power Meta Decks(which virtually no other Character Archetype on this wheel can do nearly as frequently).
doug and mbt gotta do an updated master roulette down the line after a couple new packs get added or updated
I don't think they need to do a full run through of everything again, but just running through the new/updated packs would be fun

For Duel Monsters, you could technically add in Raphael (the Guardian/Mikanko pack) and Seigfried (the Valkyrie pack).
For the sake of the Character wheel going forward, the focus should be centered around the archetype the character played. Obviously, Labyrinth outclasses all these decks, and I imagine there are archetypes for other characters that are paired with some random archetype. Packs are RNG, so I think the crafts should solely focus on the archetype. This was shown in the last episode when you guys crafted stuff for Blue Eyes that wasn't in the Blue Eyes pack. If Destiny Board had been the centered focus with labyrinth cards to pair with it, it would better go with the theme of this series.

Im not mad that mbt uses labyrinth, its in the pack and in the pulls. But cmon he pulled the complete destiny board + extras I think he should have used them for the content, and if he lost then you can play again and go with labyrinth pulls. Now the option is gone
You mentioned it in the pinned comment but yeah these feeling less like actual character decks def hurts the premiss a little bit for me. Cause it dosnt really feel like character duels. I know your the pack opening guy but maybe you can revist this idea again in the future but instead of opening packs you just use upgraded versions of their old cards.

honestly anime decks get a lot more interesting as time goes on which is great. otoh we will have to pass through pendulum country at some time

I think this series has kind of the same issue as Cimo’s Sealed Saturdays where it focuses on the premise of playing character centered decks but we get a completely different deck having nothing to do with said character. I think forcing to use their ace cards would remedy this a little bit. It was weird seeing the Kaiba deck not use a Blue Eyes or in this Bakura having literally none of his cards.
For the Bakura pack to be fair in seal, you should be forced to play destiny board.
Other than whats already been mentioned in other comments, I really like this ruleset.
my favorite moment from "Duel Monsters" was when Bakura played Arianna Grande of the silver lab.

I think because you're selling this series as " character roulette" the audience would assume you to be using the characters architype in the duels. Any content is good content btw :)
Look if you aren't forced to actually play the character's cards (possible to not pull enough destiny board cards then the crafts should have to to be limited to the character's cards)
I like the idea of two characters going up against each others decks, but when mbt plays 0 cards that are bakuras it just seems like any other series. You should have to play the cards that charicter is known for.

What commentors don't understand is that the lab cards are perfectly in character for Bakura, who in both season 0 and in the final season is a Game/Dungeon Master. He lays out the setting, the monsters, and above anything else, the traps!

Lab is a big reason I stoipped playing Harpies on MD. Single-target backrow removal is REALLY bad against normal traps that they generally want reasons to activate anyhow.

It's the packs that have those cards. The Marik pack has the board and necrofear but it also has good cards like lab
If you want a series where they play the cards the characters do, there's always that team sam series with mbt
It's a slight theme for Roulette 2.0 so they don't just run through the entire wheel again. Don't take the character stuff too seriously, otherwise they wouldn't be pulling from Master Duel packs

i watch this series for anime shitter decks slapping each other around for 50 turns, if i wanted to watch lab gameplay i would just watch any normal meta master duel video

conductor lets you turn your opponents monster destruction into popping your own back row for their bonus effects instead, and her 2nd effect is triggered by cyberslash, dancer and harpist, to let you add removal to your normal combos in full constructed harpies
Can someone explain why dug did not pop lovely in game 2 before she activated her effect ?, like he would have had just ariana and archefiend and cooclock in hand ?, i feel like letting him set the big welcome was a terrible idea, it's the same with the toddler turn 1, why is he holding icarus for cards he knows will put him in a worse spot if they go off ?

I would prefer if this was a roulette wheel of archetypes and that each player is required to play at least 1 of each legal card from the archetype, as to force them to play " the correct" archetype from the pack that they pull from. The minimum of one rule above would in that case be fulfilled by the only crafting allowed: if you do not draw at least one of each card in the archetype, you get to craft them.
This seem close to impossible to balance and the only way I can think of balancing it is more roulette wheels: one big one that the first player gets to spin (with one possible re-spin) and dependent on the archetype gotten, the second player gets to spin a wheel where roughly as good archetypes are. (Without any testing whatsoever, I suggest 1 big wheel with everything on, one meta wheel, one rouge wheel, and finally one garbage wheel) Hopefully this would give a lot of archetypes their time in the spotlight and especially when put up against a similarly powered deck.
I want to see the Valkyrie pack in this series. They are all new cards to me. I have ever played with or against them, no one makes videos on them, even cloudians have something but they don't
I don't mind that the bakura pack wasn't using alot of bakura cards. It's not like Kaiba was summoning Jet dragon, or that any of the good dinos were actually from the anime
Do a round-robin saga with mbt and farfa. It will be a show to watch
Just be patient guys, and give them some time to work on the series. They came up with this idea and this is the first season that they're executing it. Things are not necessarily going to be perfect, it'll take time to work out the kinks and make it more exciting. One thing I did like about the episode was the very back-and-forth duels, and Harpies did manage to take a win in the end by punishing a misplay. Feedback is good, but there is a way to provide it in constructive fashion without being disparaging, they're going to be more inclined to listen to suggestions & feedback if we're nice about it.

We're seeing a lot of stomps so far in this series. In cases like this where one pack has a clear and significant advantage something should probably be done.
My suggestion would be rolling two packs without assigning them and then you guys could wager for the packs with stuff like extra pulls or crafts. For example, someone might offer "if you let me take the lab pack I'm willing to let you pull 5 extra harpie packs".
When I had first saw the title of the series, I figured that you were going to get a list of all of the cards that the character had played and their related cards and each of you would construct a deck from those cards. Though I understand that the number URs needed for that may be prohibitive and pulling packs is a rather convenient and straightforward way to curb the power of the decks.
Having read the pinned comment, I'm still disappointed. I found myself watching this actively not wanting MBT to pull Lab cards so we might get to see destiny board. Its not just that his pack has card he didn't use. Its that with 20 and 4 crafts Labrynth seems a cut above everything else on the wheel.
All I can think would be to run it back and let whoever opens it craft a Bakura card to replace every lab card they pull. But that seems convoluted.
you’ll just have to accept the point of the series is to play limited with md secret packs in a slightly different format from normal roulette and not really a vehicle for only watching people play unplayably bad anime archetypes
