Spent my childhood doing what this man's doing. Built my own small houses to live in, on parents' property. Only difference is that I would run electricity to them in the end. My houses had all the neighbours visiting, just to stay over and relax. I ran power cables through trenches I dug. I had lighting, electric ventilation and things like an electric kettle. I've also built 2 dozen fireplaces by the time I was 15. I got very good at it. I'd embed heat pipes throughout walls and have them work off the fireplace that cooked food. The place where we lived had very frequent blackouts, so I built fireplaces for myself and others out of necessity. I had access to industrial bricks sometimes, but I had to mix my own mortar. Dig through dirt to get clay and sand. Fun memories.

Man, he's the only youtube channel everyone agree's on. Respect, love what you do, keep on going I could watch your videos for hours. It's so interesting, simple and relaxing
I've always wondered about one thing with the brick kilns. Do the bricks you use for the structure og the kiln itself get fired all the way through over the time that you use them? If not, would it help to turn them inside out (so the side that doesn't get fired faces the inside of the kiln)? After you're done using the kiln, what do you do with the structural bricks?
The bricks won't fire completely (it needs to heat to the point of glowing for it to become water-resistant, and continue to heat up even more to completely become a ceramic brick). However, the bricks in a kiln don't need to do much more than simply hold the kiln together and insulate the inside from the outside air. Even cracked bricks, while bad for insulating, can be patched together with clay since all it needs to do is hold the fire in. His first brick kiln was just made from mud that dried when it was first fired and patched with more mud as it cracked. Going from old videos, he usually keeps a kiln until it's time to move or he makes a better one. Bricks are heavy and annoying to transport by hand so I wouldn't be surprised if he smashed old kilns.
Hey, glad to see you back! I was worried that something had happened when I remembered your channel a couple months back and realized that you haven't posted in ages! You have some of the most interesting content on yt in my opinion, keep up the great work!

Don't get me wrong: I adore every single video you make. I am never bothered by watching you start over or building new structures. But I'm always more excited when the bricks, kilns, and pots start coming in. I love seeing how much more you become capable of doing once you've accumulated some resources!
@@m_artroom in that case, check out the channel How To Make Everything. Andy is doing just that, progressing through the technology of the ages, starting with the stone age.

С возвращением, амиго! Твои видео сейчас особо актуальны)))! Пока на планете не закончились чипы для компьютеров, постарайся в своём процессе дойти именно до этого момента)))
Most modern bricks I have seen had vertical holes in them. Bricks with holes should dry faster, save on clay, be lighter and burn faster too. I'm pretty sure they should be as structurally sound as solid bricks. Interesting work and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
He’s experimented with that in the past; not sure why he decided to make solid bricks rather than bricks with holes in them - maybe they tended to deform too much in the process?
@@ragnkja takes time, he's not buying the clay so material cost doesn't matter, and they provide potential nucleation sites for cracks, also could be potential hiding spots for some nasty critters, just speculation though
Modern bricks use much more homogenius clay of known quality. This clay would be more likely to crack. Abig reason for the holes is to make them lighter for transport and construction which is not as important here. The extra time, complexity in forming and failure rate when drying/fireing is probably just not worth it in this context.
Watching this just makes me want to rewatch every single previous video, seems like I’ll be spending the rest of the day doing just that. Glad you’re uploading again!

He's totally going to make a brick house. He even has a few different types of mortar to use, from his previous videos!
I would really love to see him put the pieces from several videos together like that. Brick-and-mortar walls, shingled roof, etc. One big, comfy hut.
He has made a brick house before, along with a tiled roof.

ok
It's a brick...
HOUSE
He will no longer have to be afraid of the wolf huffing and puffing.
either i am blind or the last few of your videos have not shown up in my subscription feed. weird. glad you're still around! your videos inspire!
This guy really never disappoints!
Yes yes yes! Loving the episodes again!
Great video man :) I'm very glad you're back, I hope you dont feel too much pressure to churn out videos and take as much time as you need, so they're more enjoyable for you to make and us to watch 🙂
The nocturnal brick inspector brought me so much joy. Thank you ❤
can we just take a moment to appreciate this mans physique.
He doesn't have showy muscles like a gym bro or a bodybuilder.
He isn't a precisely tuned machine like an Olympic athlete.
He's just a normal guy in pretty good shape who builds furnaces and huts by hand.
This is what a healthy man looks like.
nice bubble bottom! ;^)
The volume of the round pot exactly equalling the volume of the rectangular tub was extremely satisfying 😌

The closed captions are always worth it on this channel.
You are the only legit Primitive channel that makes fire on scene everytime.
Awesome stuff. Does the "large scale brick production" mean You plan on building some more permanent brick structures out there?
Malbork replica :-P
maybe he's gonna give his hut some walls.
@@jacobellinger8027 I was thinking the same, most probably will make a great bricked house.
@@jacobellinger8027 That’s what he did before. All of the things in the new vids are stuff from old vids I believe. Still dope and enjoyable to watch of course
@@ralaxgaming Yeah, he's also doing some things slightly differently. Its also obvious his new workshop hut is bigger than any of the previous ones he made, which he showed before a lot of his old stuff fell to disrepair from weather.
Always so relaxing watching you do these things. I honestly think it's because this is how humans are supposed to live.
Don't forget he's going home to a sanitary and warm environment with plentiful food and medical care compared to that. Living like that full time is miserable and hard to keep up with when you get older.
I'm so glad you're back. It has to be so time consuming making all the things you do, filming it all and editing down to something under 10 mins.
Im glad that you're safe and presumably healthy and back making videos. These are really peaceful and educational and I hope you enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching and learning
👍
does anyone know why he was gone for so long?
@@Minsang1st I think there was talk of a TV show. Not sure how it all went.
If it's American TV, they would have tried to push a crazy narrative over it. "Will he DIE from the kiln smoke or just cough a little bit."
Thrilled to see this man back in action. He's been learning....
I'm glad as well, but he doesn't seem to be learning much, considering it's his 4th brick-making video
Love how he just decided “you know what? I wanna do this again” and I cant be more happier about it
It's more 'there was a TV show that was in production, but then the pandemic happened, so I guess I can upload again'.
@@nosrepa This would be the second person I watched that was screwed by the pandemic in that sense. Really unfortunate, but I'm sure he gets plenty of revenue from RUclips at least. 10 million subs isn't a small number.

Gosh these videos are so neat, and so incredibly chill. Also, love that you put in captions to describe what you're doing. That's MEGA helpful in understanding what's on screen! Hope you're still having a blast (or at least... some blast) doing all this!
These videos bring me back to q happier time of my life when you first started posting. The people I shared your videos with cant enjoy them as they used to. Thank you for your videos. They provide me with a huge sense of nostalgic comfort.
Friendly reminder to always watch his videos with the captions on. He posts captions giving more details about what he is doing at the time. Amazing work and I'm glad to see him back.
Dude! TY
I watch twice. Once without, to see what I understand and just enjoy the aesthetic, then once with to get a better understanding
Heresy, silence only
They're two entirely different ways to view it. With captions on, it's a lot more educational. Without them, it's a lot more relaxing.
I personally prefer to watch them just before bed without subtitles on. It's extremely calming. Plus, he makes it visually clear enough what he's doing where you can still follow along
Lol, I had no idea!
This guy makes starting a fire and building things look so easy, he needs to be on survivor, everyone would be grateful to have him on their team, they would all be living in luxury

Bricks would spread the heat better as it also retains heat well
The bricks won't fire completely (it needs to heat to the point of glowing for it to become water-resistant, and continue to heat up even more to completely become a ceramic brick).
@@liger04 The older previously fired brick would be his supply of non-plastics (grog).
Hey, glad to see you back! I was worried that something had happened when I remembered your channel a couple months back and realized that you haven't posted in ages! You have some of the most interesting content on yt in my opinion, keep up the great work!
That movie was by far the most important event of the year in positive category for me. After three years of bad newses, depresion and stagnacy, You are starting making new things. It sounds like good times are arriving. Bless.
man you're the OG for this type of content. I love your stuff, even after all these years. So relaxing and informative.
It's great to see you back! One of the most entertaining and educational survival channels out there!
What? You mean that my RUclips knowledge of building underground swimming pools is useless? :(
So happy that these are happening again. Some of the best content on youtube for sure!
I am so happy that I discovered you after you decided to start making videos again. So much "old" content and hopefully more new content to come!
Don't get me wrong: I adore every single video you make. I am never bothered by watching you start over or building new structures. But I'm always more excited when the bricks, kilns, and pots start coming in. I love seeing how much more you become capable of doing once you've accumulated some resources!
Same! I know the channel is called primitive technology but I wouldn’t mind watching how the world advanced further throughout time
@@m_artroom in that case, check out the channel How To Make Everything. Andy is doing just that, progressing through the technology of the ages, starting with the stone age.
The issue is if he makes anymore progress, he'll fully enter the bronze/iron age and it stops being primitive. Heck, he already teased the iron age when he made those prillings. He's just too powerful to continue progress with any one setup without styling on all of humanity.
The workshop looking so good it almost is unbelievable that it was a one man job. Congratulations John. So glad you're back!!
Thank you so much for coming back! I started watching your videos after you had left last time, and I am not the only one who has missed these highly informative and educational instructive videos! You are the best teacher ever.

Love how he decided that the square pot with a "minor crack", which was intended for infrequent, stationary use, was "good enough" - while the pots he uses for frequent, carrying usage are only the ones who pass the "no cracks" test. He knows WHEN to spare work and when NOT.

This man amazes me every time. Can’t wait to see his future projects.
Future projects? He makes the same shit every time lmao
Most modern bricks I have seen had vertical holes in them. Bricks with holes should dry faster, save on clay, be lighter and burn faster too. I'm pretty sure they should be as structurally sound as solid bricks. Interesting work and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Makes them more insulating too.
@@TheHarleyEvans yeah I agree, my guess is mainly for critters I guess- especially given the r region he’s in
