@cpet3589 I can give you an advice on what monitor to choose for this project and how to do, it is pretty easy. The first one took me 20 minutes on first attempt.

I've taken a few PC monitors apart and they all had side-lit screens, however they also have diffuser dots on the acrylic plate and a light reflecting sheet at the back, I don't think this could be done without something to move/focus the light through the screen

2 nerds in a relationship. kinda wholesome tho. I genuinely wasn’t expecting this video to feature people like this, but it ended up being better than expected. Continue you two, keep up the content.
Step 1: Get a small notebook. Step 2: Get a pen. Step 3: Go take a shower Step 4: Write down the ideas you got while showering. Step 5: Do research. Step 6: Build
So, I really love this idea, but my brain immediately came up with a concept to make this I guess usable in more practical settings? I was thinking a form of thin white LED stripping around the outside of the screen in the frame (maybe with some reflective tape to help the light). You could add a dimmer so you can turn up and down the brightness similar to what you were doing with the back lighting while testing. I love the stuff you do and I can wait for your next video!
so the most common use of this actually started in the PC world and was nicknamed snowblind. you line the edge with really bright LEDs directed into your case and then the light bounces back through the screen. you can then use wallpaper engine to display cool images over your awesome PC build. you can go to Instructables and search snowblind to find a build demo
Nostalgia vibes. I remember people doing this maybe mid to late 2000's (I don't remember exactly when, around the time LCD monitors were starting to be a big thing and replacing CRT monitors) as part of PC case mods, adding the "clear monitor" to the case window so you could display whatever on it.

That's what the whole assembly together does 😇 te keep it transparent with a light source from the bottom is very hard to achieve :( you would have to work with mirrors or something to create an illusion.
@@jouwklappik Not necessarily. It would basically be the other way of lighting an lcd. Edge lighting. It was common in the late 90s and early 2000s as a cost cutting measure. In fact it's how they lit the screen on the original Gameboy Advance SP. It doesn't produce as good of a result (hence why it was phased out in favor of back lighting) but it would work if you put led strips around the edges.
I love your videos it inspires me to try new things even though i can't do them myself i love how your videos include you guys continuing to redo it even if it doesn't work instead of just giving up because i tend to give up easily and this shows me that i can try more things instead of just giving up edit: if you read this thanks 😊 sorry for the long comment

Sitting here in my trailer watching you take apart such a nice monitor. And me, I have about 60 used ones that probably would have worked just as good. I'm thinking of building cases for 5 or 6 of the 60 plus TV's here.
My first impression: 'Are they making a screen similar to what Tony Stark used in the movies? Later: X'D I love the drawing on his face! I think there could be a lot of uses in that department. I don't know if I love the curly mustache, though, or if it just makes him look like a cartoon villain. ^_^' I wonder, would it be possible to do this, but with a computer touchscreen monitor? Like, able to touch the see-through screen?
i probably never would have even noticed or thought about those pumpkins but then i see blurred out parts of film and i become the worlds greatest detective lmao.

@@antoniomeraz520 know they didnt remove the polarizing film, because the light will be unpolarized and they will see a white screen
I just have to let you know that I’ve been going through an incredibly rough time lately (finally leaving an abusive ex, trying to rebuild burnt bridges, catching up on schoolwork and trying to find a job, etc.) and your videos make it all so much easier and calm my mind and heart when I’m struggling. Thank you so much for all you do, you are very much appreciate and loved (and goofy!)

How do yall come with these ideas, it's so amazing!!
Step 1: Get a small notebook.
Step 2: Get a pen.
Step 3: Go take a shower
Step 4: Write down the ideas you got while showering.
Step 5: Do research.
Step 6: Build
Or just watch Linus tech tips lol
This has been around for ages.
They are not the first to do this. Been around for at least a couple of years.
@@saltymurloc2255 ikr lmao
So, I really love this idea, but my brain immediately came up with a concept to make this I guess usable in more practical settings?
I was thinking a form of thin white LED stripping around the outside of the screen in the frame (maybe with some reflective tape to help the light). You could add a dimmer so you can turn up and down the brightness similar to what you were doing with the back lighting while testing.
I love the stuff you do and I can wait for your next video!
Yes I think that would work
If you engenere the liquid cristals to disperse light it works at the cost of a crisp Image
I was thinking about that so you don’t have to put a massive light at the back
so the most common use of this actually started in the PC world and was nicknamed snowblind. you line the edge with really bright LEDs directed into your case and then the light bounces back through the screen. you can then use wallpaper engine to display cool images over your awesome PC build. you can go to Instructables and search snowblind to find a build demo
I was thinking you could program the crystals, but I'm a nerd.
Katelyn: What would be cooler than a screen
Evan: I don't-
katelyn: A CLEAR SCREEN

Nostalgia vibes. I remember people doing this maybe mid to late 2000's (I don't remember exactly when, around the time LCD monitors were starting to be a big thing and replacing CRT monitors) as part of PC case mods, adding the "clear monitor" to the case window so you could display whatever on it.
Evan and Katelyn are relationship goals fr, the wacky stuff they do, the chemistry, and the fact you guys can talk about sweaty pits and mustaches and laugh about it, my god you guys are such a great couple ❤❤❤❤

Couldn't mount a led light on angle at the bottom flush in the frame? That would project enough light to make it work correctly?

I can't get through the first 3 and a half minutes without adoring at Katelyn's editing.

The fact that this wasn’t even click bait in any way shape or form, and I still clicked fast as hell. I love a good Kevan and Atelyn diy 🥺💜
I don’t know why but Katelyn telling the monitor it was bedtime freaking killed me
I took apart my first tv when I was 3 years old. Then did it again when I was ... um... much older. This was fun! I hope you guys had as much fun as I did!

I'm wondering if it would've helped to put a LED-strip in with it so there's light included? Maybe an updated version? 😄
That was my exact thought!!!!
@@chadmasta5 been there done that doesn't work. I made myself some lights from old LCD. Why have they developed oled.?
Calculators have this. Peel the sticker off at the back of the screen and it’ll be transparent

When Evan and Katelyn can make a clear screen but Apple is still working on it LOL

Its because there is no Led, that's why they are standing behind a light source, or a white bg, if you could only use a computer in front of the perfect environment bg you probably wouldnt buy it lmao, but it's a cool project
Evan and Katelyn screen need an outside back light and they didn't solve anything. Apple and Samsung working on how to make the light from under the screen
I love the research that went into this video. I had no idea that anti-glare displays can be turned into glare displays with only the price of paper towels and water, a couple days of waiting. One day didn't seem like enough so yea.
