Thanks for this info on the latch- it really helped understand how to repair mine... but also drove me nuts! You see, my 83 is supposed to have plastic clips (vs. metal) and 82 down has the metal ones shown in this video.... we, my ##$% latch mechanism has 2 plastic (as it should) BUT the connection to the outside handle has the older metal clip!! And the way this thing is assembled, it's not like someone replaced a detail from an 82, as its all riveted together!! My truck must have been an early 83 and GM was using up some leftover 82 parts.... 🤬😳🤯

H-E-L-P! ! ! My door latch stopped working when the door was closed. It appears to be working but the door will not un-latch from the striker. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I was replacing the channel felt and believe a small piece of the dry rotted old felt channel fell into the door latch mechanism and something is blocking the bearclaw from releasing the striker. I have the interior door panel off and can peer into the inside of the door. Any Help is appreciated.

nice video.. but i really need to know how to remove the external door handle..

It seems that I did not cover that. There is one link rod that runs down to the latch that needs to be removed. After that, there are three bolts on the inside that need to be removed and then the door handle will slide out. All of this needs to be done from the inside, so you'll need to remove the door panel to access the linkage and bolts. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

+milkcrate82 I'm having a hard time getting the door handles off. The rod running from the latch to the handle mechanism is connected by a plastic bracket and I don't want to break it. I got the screws off of the door handle, but can't get the body off the handle out of the opening in the door because of the spring on top of the handle mechanism. Any ideas? The handles are replacements from Goodmark.
