From what I understand, Beholders are incredibly paranoid, always convinced everything around any corner is there to kill them, lining their lairs with traps and whatnot and spending their days conceiving of every possible countermeasure imaginable to prepare more. That makes this a perfect interpretation.
@@Tounushi no, but if they dream about another beholder, then another beholder spawns into being in front of them, and they immediately start fighting. That’s how they reproduce… by accidentally creating an imaginary friend (enemy)
I read somewhere that the beholder was inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft and then they gave it Lovecraft's xenophobic, racist and paranoid personality traits, which if true, is hilarous.
Reminds me of the time two of my friends independently thought it would be absolutely hilarious to make a character who had max strength and 0 intelligence and also to not pick common as a language. They both had absolutely zero idea what was going on and where just smacking things all campaign.
@@adamorick28723 in the minimum for any sort of human thinking. 2 means you think like a mammal or other high order animal. 1 means you only act on instinct. 0 means you have no brain activity.
To think Priestess could have gone up in rank again after this quest was done: multiple Goblins slayed, faced a Goblin Champion, survived a Swamp Dragon and contributed to sealing away a magic mirror.
