@@re4ptilerea4er55 By "should have been", you mean in correct Latin? If so, I show how they were supposed to be in orange in the video, plus the very English text you see in the video in yellow is the one I received from the music producer, then there you go :)

Please, check out Laurence official lyrics too, those two (Laurence and Ludwig's) were the only lyrics I could confirm with the producer. I hope to confirm more in future. Listen to my Bloodborne church organ arrangements too :)
One thing I absolutely love about these lyrics is that the words feel like prayers. This game looks so good that it single handed makes me want to invest in a PlayStation!
Now that i hear it, it sounds like a crowd is inside the arena pointing ludwig, mocking him on the first phase, to then venerate him on the second and cheer his attacks
This is an absolutely amazing interpretation. I can definitely see it, in the first part, as if they were mocking him for losing his way, for getting drunk with blood and succumbing to beasthood, while in the second part, they celebrate his holy hunter status, who didn't lose his way, and didn't get drunk, pointing out his restored humanity.
HAdes é fanboy msm igual nóis, olha só hehehh. Seria maneiro tu fazer um vídeo explicando pro publico br que as "traduções" das líricas de elden ring são td fake com exceção da Song of Lament, só pra deixar o público ligado.
Oh my god, this makes so much sense. The lyrics are the freaking church mantra that Yamamura repeats. A literal translation of the mantra from Japanese is this: “In the night but not lost, covered in blood but not drunk from it. Honorable hunter of the church: Beasts are a curse, and a curse is a yoke. And thus, you become the blades of the church.” It matches up 1:1, it’s just sung in Latin out of order!
@@AntoniusTertius Yes. You hear this mantra *nearly immediately* after defeating Ludwig. As soon as you go to the next area, the Research Hall, you start hearing it in the distance, and you can eventually find Yamamura locked up in a cell bashing his head into a wall and repeating it over and over. One more thing I want to say: When it changes to the second phase, the cutscene and the lyrics are both representations of that mantra, and the lyrics and cutscene are synced. The moonlight (greatsword) shines in the dark in the first scene as his guiding light (in the night but not lost), and in the second scene the still-human side of his face is covered in blood, yet determined to hunt the PC as he regains a part of his humanity (covered in blood but not drunk from it). As the Guidance rune you can get says: Ludwig was certain that these playful dancing sprites offered “guidance,” and emptied Ludwig of his fears, at least in the midst of a hunt. All of this represents the central theme of bloodborne, one about the inherit beasthood within us all, and our desire to gain arcane insight into the world to overcome this, and how easy it is to lose yourself in that process. Truly beautiful, and thank you for this resource.
@@NightmareLudicolo Wow! Bloodborne story sounds amazing! I want to play it so much! Thank you for explaining the mantra with a wealth of details ^^ So Ludwig's sword prior to his doom was white ? I didn't understand that part.
@@AntoniusTertius Hard to say why they called it white. There is a word in Japanese that means “blue-white,” maybe that’s where it comes from? Or the sword was originally gonna be whiter? You’d think they would call it silver if they were referring to the sheathe (ludwig’s holy sword). Idk, your guess is as good as mine lol
@@NightmareLudicolo maybe it refers to him, as in "ludwig, the holy blade" And considering he is quite an old hunter in the timeline it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he was one of the original white-robe church hunters. So the "white robe hunter ludwig, the holy blade" would artistically be called the "white sword". Does this make sense?
I’m a big believer of the fan theory that the halfway point of this fight is the sword recognizing the player character’s strength and seizing an opportunity. The sword pities Ludwig in this grotesque form and since the player character has proven to be formidable enough to damage his beast form, the sword uses its magic to temporarily restore Ludwig’s mind so he can face us in a proper duel. The sword wishes to be wielded by its old master one last time, and the chance to be defeated honorably in battle against a worthy opponent, as opposed to being put down like a rabid dog, is the sword’s parting gift to Ludwig before setting off with its new master.
Bro, after reading your comment an idea came to my mind. Some people say that what we read in the lyrics is being chanted by the crowd that is in the arena, and other says that all happens in Ludwig minds. What if it is the moonlight sword saying this to Ludwig?
@@exactamente_un_juegothis is why I love the Soulsborne community You just took TWO theories, and turned them into one really solid and narratively satisfying one
The translation that I saw in comments on this theme made this song out as a choir telling Ludwig of his inescapable curse. While this translation gives me the vibe of those tiny beings of light that guided him while he was still a hunter, guiding him even now. Both of them make perfect sense and either way this song rocks.
The song does rock indeed :) Thanks to the music producer, now we have the official translation. Check out my latest video on Bloodborne lyrics to know how Sony created the lyrics for this game.
Im pretty sure its confirmed that the sword is singing the lyrics to ludwig. So your conjecture about the lyrics being sung by the little beings of light really isnt that far off from what the developers and composer intended. Shows just how much story telling is cram packed in this bossfight
It all makes sence now, Ludwig was once a honorable hunter but he fell drunk of blood and became a monster, during the fight this song is sounding inside his head.
I love how the Phase 1 lyrics tell Ludwig's Life, and also asking him remember who he was... A hunter of Blood-Thirsty beasts... It asks him to not lose his sanity, to not become a Blood-Thirsty Hunter himself..... Then comes Phase 2.....It literally tells Ludwig that we (the hunter) will kill him and it is best for him as it will be an honorable death he needs... It still asks him to not get Blood-Thirsty.... It also tells him who he was... a Hunter of the White Church..... Ludwig, The Holy Blade....
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for covering Ludwig! He's one of my favorite bosses in the DLC and this feels like a send off to my boy Ludwig! Awesome Job Atonius!
You're most welcome, Sebastian :D I only received lyrics of 2 Bloodborne songs, Laurence's and Ludwig's, the ones I asked for first. I hope I can confirm more lyrics in the next months.

Awesome! This is a big one. Definitely in my top 3 "impossible bloodborne mockups" along with Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower and Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos. Glad I haven't put out my version because those inaudable lyrics in the pre-chorus / chorus of phase two have been killing me. Thanks so much for your work - I'll be sure to credit / link if I decide to put it out :)
You're most welcome! Looking forward to your version :D I wish there were some Ludwig vocal score out there, it could have helped me highlight the syllables sung in that 2nd phase. I managed to perceive many words like feris maledictus and catenas but my ears eventually get lost.

@@voxerror AHHH! You surprised me with your new look at first Fromlore :0 I was like, who is it?, then I noticed it was you XD It was a drastic change, the new name is unique, and that's great for people to find you easily, so well chosen :) Not only the lyrics, the confirmation of the lore text on which the lyrics were made by Sony was equally important. I haven't published more official lyrics yet precisely because I haven't obtained more lore texts, they are the key to fully understand what the producers wanted the song to mean in secret, as the Latin is oftenly so disjointed.

It took me a while to get used to this lyrics after being used to the previous ones, but I must say that I love this one, also congratulations for getting the official lyrics and giving you the time to explain it to us, I am eternally grateful The way "Cum a forti candida" sounds and Ludwig looks at his sword, also when "Non vos perdemus viam nocte" sounds And the holy moonlight sword illuminates him fits so well, it's nice to see another perspective about what the lyrics are trying to tell, helped by the emotions that the soundtrack provokes, I'll gladly subscribe if that means even a little
Thank you so much for your comment and kind support :') Your subscription means a lot! I cannot know if I'll be able to confirm more boss lyrics from Bloodborne, but I'll keep trying. Have you seen my last videos? One of them explains how Sony made the lyrics for this game based on Miyazaki lore texts, the composer Ryan Amon told me that :D I'll keep trying to reach out to more music producers to try to gather more info and confirm more lyrics.
Seems like the song is about Ludwig before he fell away from the path. He lost his way at night after all. Great investigative work again. I hope some journalist helps you spread the info you confirmed someday. People already got used to the fanmade lyrics, so it may take years for them to realise the truth...
So the lyric implies that we should call him, "Ludwig, the Moonlight Hunter". There are so many OSTs with vocal left. I'm particularly curious about Cleric Beast/Amelia one.
I've been waiting so long for a channel like these, so, thanks for your awesome job ! I can sing Laurence's and Ludwig's theme in the bathroom without any error, now. Let's take a shower.
I wouldn’t say just because it’s not proper Latin that it’s “no meaning, no lore.” That would be like saying you can’t have a conversation if you only speak a broken form of a language, which you definitely can. Sure it would be harder for a fluent speaker to understand but they’ll get the gist of what you mean. Just like here, sure the grammar isn’t perfect but it still conveys the intended meaning and absolutely adds lore to Ludwig that makes him an even more fleshed out character than if you didn’t know the lyrics. That nitpick aside, wonderful video. Really added to my appreciation for this ost and Ludwig as a character.
@@InsaneCrab7 I wasn't talking about Bloodborne in that part. No meaning, no lore regard most of the other Souls songs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring). This is all I have wanted for two and a half years, thank you. Also, I see you may or may not have taken my advice and made a karaoke-esk thing to go with the lyrics.
You're welcome Jack ^^ It is easier to make karaoke versions when the whole choir sings the same words. I intend to release at least one more Elden Ring music video, and this time with karaoke :) But I have some Elden Ring lyrics here that are hard to put in a karaoke version due to each choir member has each own set of lyrics.
oh god the official lyric is SO MUCH BETTER than all the crap community came up with "you neither lose your way at night nor you get drunk with blood" so powerful and epic its as if the blade is showing guidance and encouragement!
Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/1aWa0vIO770/видео.html The official lyrics are mostly phrases created by Miyazaki that were translated into Latin by Sony music producers, so it's natural they end up being superior, they come from the Master himself :)

"Ah... You were at my side, all along My true mentor, my guiding moonlight"
I think more clearly that Ludwig was in fact possessed by his sword. It seems to be the only object that gave him any semblance of focus or purpose especially after his change. It's so clear that he was both respected and feared unanimously by all of Yharnam for his actions. A once noble crusader losing himself to the damned blood.
Ludwig had two swords. One was Ludwig's Holy Blade, light silver one that transforms into a massive greatsword, and you can get it pretty fast in game. It's based on Holy Moonlight Sword (blue arcane sword he uses in this battle). Description of Holy Moonlight Sword says "The Holy Moonlight Sword is synonymous with Ludwig, the Holy Blade, but few have ever set eyes on the great blade, and whatever guidance it has to offer, it seems to be of a very private, elusive sort." He didn't use original in battle so much I think. Silver is still not white, but It's closer. Maybe it even looked white with church robes.
Another banger of a song with very interesting lyrics. I love the emphasis on the sword and the light of the moon! Thanks for sharing your findings as always!
"Bestas amaldiçoadas, correntes amaldiçoadas! Torna-te a lâmina do deus honrado!"

it feels like the lyrics are spoken by ludwig or at least his former self preaching to his hunters, and it's quite and dim in the first phase because he did lose his way at night but then by the power of moonlight and "the powerful white sword" he regains his sanitary and honor so now he commands it " cursed beasts and chains become the blade of the honorable lord"
I believe it was a singer who was about to sing before the others, it's really a subtle sound. Please, check out the other Bloodborne videos in the playlist on my pinned comment :)

I wonder if the Bloodborne songs actually having real (or realish) Latin lyrics in them is why they sound so much better than most other songs that just have latin sounding gibberish.
@@jimmydesouza4375 I think it is not due to the lyrics, NieR song lyrics are mostly gibberish and those songs are amazing. It is due to the musicality, melody etc.

Only, thank you. I am a pianist, composer sometimes, and I study Latin and Greek, so every time I Iistened to Fromsoftware's tracks I felt frustrated because I couldn't understand the exact words. I would be very happy if you can share the lyrics for Sir Alonne (Dark Souls 2), Dark souls 3 main theme (in which I think there's also Italian at the start: I hear "brucia pira priva di vita che tu m'hai salvato") and Gehrman. Anyway, thanks a lot for Ludwig and Laurence, although the pain for the incorrect Latin is indescribable.
We feel the same pain, as I'm kind of a Latin scholar. I recommend that you watch the Goddrick the grafted lyrics video of mine (the Dark Souls composers affirmed on Twitter the lyrics don't mean anything and are only based on Latin) and also the 2nd half of the Godskin Apostles official lyrics video of mine, as you'll find out there are Italian words there.

I tried my hand at the living failures, im proud to declare myself as one of them! Although some words actually made sense, you should really try it yourself.
To me, the first part you can interpret into 2 perspectives. No. 1 is the Church Hunter's mantra that Ludwig holds dear. He told his honorable spartans that they won't get lost in the night. No. 2 it is Ludwig's irony. He is the one that got blood-drunk the most, based on his current beastly abomination. The detractors made it clear. The 2nd phase, he listened to the Moonlight greatsword whispers, and danced with the sword, full on blood-drunk but aware of his atrocities. He let go his faith, breaking the chains that hold hin down. One with the blade.
It’s not meant to be taken literally but just a few notes about it. Hunter of the healing church: more than likely referring to Ludwig and his rise to being the first Hunter of the Healing Church. White sword: possibly referring to The Holy Moonlight Sword though not really white, it does emit a glow that can become white. Or in a metaphorical stance, white referring towards something being holy. Never lose your way at night: possibly referring to the sprites Ludwig was able to see as described in the Guidance rune. Nor become drunk with blood: This referring to him being more steadfast in the face of becoming blood drunk, probably as a result of the sprites he saw, along with the HMS. Lord: sense Ludwig was the first hunter of the healing church, he became the lord of all other healing church hunters that followed him. Cursed Beasts, Cursed Chains: this likely describes his hatred for beasts. As for Cursed Chains, not really sure but it possibly refers to the burden of becoming blood drunk. Again, the lyrics may not have much meaning, but looking at them describes what kind of person Ludwig was. A noble hero with a zealous hatred for beasts, a man guided by small sprites that possibly helped him hold himself together when he lowly slipped into madness. As for why he’s a horse, 30% because why not and 70% because of Miyazaki wanting rape horse from Berserk. If you’ve never seen that part of berserk just look up ‘Ludwig Berserk’ and you’ll understand lol.
Thanks :) I only publish the lyrics once I confirm them with the music producers who worked in Bloodborne, so if I ever confirm Maria's official lyrics, I'll add it to the lyrics playlist in my fixed comment.

In the Souls games, only Bloodborne and Demon's Souls Remake have many songs with Latin lyrics. In Elden Ring, I confirmed the existence of only one Latin song, all the boss songs whose lyrics I managed to obtain from music producers are not in Latin. Hey I have a question based off your translation at 2:27. you wrote the translation as Tu non perdis viam nocte. Why didn’t you just change the verb agreement on what was in the song to non vos perditis viam nocte so the accurate translation is more true to what the syllables are like on the song. Using non vos instead of tu non are both grammatically correct. Also if you did perditis instead of perdis you’ll be using the same number of syllables as the though grammatically incorrect perdimus.
Because in the English text I received from the music producer is written "O, hunter of the holy god(...) You neither lose your way at night (...)",the subject is singular (tu),not plural(vos), thus tu non perdis. The original texts are in Japanese/English, the official lyrics used in the song are simply a grammatically incorrect translation of them. I focused on the original lore texts, as explained in the video "the making of Bloodborne lyrics". Now, if I were paid,as a lyricist, to make lyrics to match the musical notes, I would take my precious time to do so with pleasure. I published this video very quickly, so I only wanted to show correct Latin sentences :) Still, I would never use vos and verbs in the 2nd person in plural form to refer to a single person in Latin. I got your point, and that's why the grammar rules were broken to favour the musicality in the end.
@@AntoniusTertiusI mean I’d argue that vos would still work as the way the choir is pronouncing the words is in the ecclesiastical pronunciation, not the classical pronunciation. And in ecclesiastical Latin vos did become used to be as a form of respect not plurality(T-V distinction) which is seen in romantic descendant(also I believe I’ve read some classical Latin poetry in school that used vos as a form of respect.) but I see your point, and I’m probably wrong, got a basic education in Latin and I’m still learning. Also appreciate you responded back on a video from a year ago :)
@@sully1492 My channel doesn't get that many comments, so I try to reply to all of them,I mean, all of the comments that matter :) I studied Classical Latin at university, and one day I asked my professor if there were examples of the respect form you mentioned in Classical texts and he answered there were none...

Tu aqui?
Oh my god, this makes so much sense. The lyrics are the freaking church mantra that Yamamura repeats. A literal translation of the mantra from Japanese is this:
“In the night but not lost, covered in blood but not drunk from it. Honorable hunter of the church: Beasts are a curse, and a curse is a yoke. And thus, you become the blades of the church.”
It matches up 1:1, it’s just sung in Latin out of order!
That's great! Could you further explain it? I never played Bloodborne, that church mantra is found in the game?
Thank you for explaining the mantra with a wealth of details ^^
So Ludwig's sword prior to his doom was white ? I didn't understand that part.
@@AntoniusTertius Hard to say why they called it white. There is a word in Japanese that means “blue-white,” maybe that’s where it comes from? Or the sword was originally gonna be whiter? You’d think they would call it silver if they were referring to the sheathe (ludwig’s holy sword). Idk, your guess is as good as mine lol
@@NightmareLudicolo maybe it refers to him, as in "ludwig, the holy blade"
And considering he is quite an old hunter in the timeline it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he was one of the original white-robe church hunters.
@@exactamente_un_juegothis is why I love the Soulsborne community
You just took TWO theories, and turned them into one really solid and narratively satisfying one

Hopefully I can confirm those lyrics in the next months, but I'm not sure.
Not just that the community was completely wrong about "Holy Blade" part, but there's also bunch of lyrics we weren't even aware of 🤣🤣🤣
Gotta say I had already noticed the community was wrong about Holy Blade, but I hadn't noticed those lyrics in the final part of the song either.

Not only the lyrics, the confirmation of the lore text on which the lyrics were made by Sony was equally important.

You're most welcome, Caio! Thank you for the incredible gameplay footage!
2:21 Kinda ironic that the moonlight greatsword has never been white. It has always been a greenish blade, and in elden ring even blue.
Indeed. I wonder why they used candida (white) in the official lyrics, perhaps they refer to Ludwig's sword prior to his transformation?

@@AntoniusTertius thank you, I haven't played Elden Ring yet so I'm trying not to get spoilers, but certainly when I will play it I'll come back to your channel :)
@@michelangelolamera Rest assured, they are no spoilers there, watch the first half of the Goddrick lyrics video and the second half of the Godskin lyrics video, this way you'll skip the songs and Elden Ring cutscenes.
@@AntoniusTertius great! Ok thanks
@@michelangelolamera Prego ^^
God damn it I think this is beyond the game it's absolutely epic !
Indeed! There's more in the playlist on my pinned comment :)
This is exactly what I wanted. fellow latinist!

Sem dúvida alguma o melhor boss de Bloodborne
I tried my hand at the living failures, im proud to declare myself as one of them!
Although some words actually made sense, you should really try it yourself.
3:00 is funny
The Orchestra was cooking
Thank you very much! I didn't know about the Berserk reference, it seems Miyazaki takes as much inspiration as possible from Berserk.
@@AntoniusTertius dude, there isn’t a Soulsborne game lacking berserk references he loves berserk lol
@@SomeKrieger Did he get the maiden's archetype from there too?
By the way, I published a video about the maiden's archetype.
@@AntoniusTertius wouldn’t be surprised if he did because of Schierke I assume. Also I’ll probably check it out sometime :)

Can you do the Lady Maria theme next? I'm really really curious about what that lyrics means
Thanks :) I only publish the lyrics once I confirm them with the music producers who worked in Bloodborne, so if I ever confirm Maria's official lyrics, I'll add it to the lyrics playlist in my fixed comment.
@@AntoniusTertius Thank you! Can't wait for Lady Maria theme. Keep up the good work!
@@afifmaulana1433 You're welcome ^^ Please, check out my other souls (Elden Ring) videos too :)
I love this, is it wrong that I want a version of the song where a person sings over the Latin with the English lyrics?
It is not wrong. In fact, I would prefer English lyrics to grammatically mistaken Latin lyrics.
Love your work, mate
Any chance you can get the Gehrman lyrics? By far my favorite fromsoft theme
Thank you very much!
I already asked for Gehrman's lyrics, but received no reply so far.
If I ever get more official lyrics, I'll publish more videos and add them in that playlist in my pinned comment.
All I can do now is invite you to check out my other Souls videos, mainly Gehrman's theme on church organ.
Best parts O and Ah
great analysis you did, but instead of critics why not just enjoy the awesome composition music
Sure, those were just observations, not critics :) If you watch my videos of Elden Ring official lyrics, you'll notice I praise the sounds independently of lyrics (most of Elden Ring's lyrics don't mean anything anyway) ^^
@@AntoniusTertiuswill be checking later for your other videos, and no worries I saw that too before in another analysis that fromsoftware made that way the distorsion of lyrics in latin langauge just to fits better with the music, that's the reason
Muitíssimo obrigado!!!
Que isso, Emerson! Obrigado por estar aqui \[T]/
The lyrics have lore ? Bloodborne is a masterpiece
These ones do have it, though not all songs in the game have lyrics like these, but many do as well, like Laurance's, I published them too.
In the Souls games, only Bloodborne and Demon's Souls Remake have many songs with Latin lyrics. In Elden Ring, I confirmed the existence of only one Latin song, all the boss songs whose lyrics I managed to obtain from music producers are not in Latin.
Curiously, Bloodborne 'n' Demon's Souls Remake soundtracks were both produced by Sony, whereas Elden Ring, Dark Souls osts were produced by Bandai.
@@AntoniusTertius will check out the Laurence one tmrw great work btw
@@paulmagagin6495 Check out the other video in the playlist too. Also, if you are interested, I published a video of a Demon's Souls Remake song with the official lyrics.
Thank you for watching the fruits of my research ^^
It seems that form appeared in the romance languages in medieval times.Perhaps, people from that time used in Latin texts they wrote, but that form is not natural in Latin.
I have more videos with Latin lyrics on my channel. Studying Latin is cool, I recommend that you keep studying it, mainly the Classical one, that's where all the fun is ;)
Thank you for your comments, the origin of the plural of respect always interested me.
