In our video, Menswear Stylist Chris Modoo discusses whether tweed has a place in the modern wardrobe.
The fact that you mentioned your tweed has survived over 20 years, answers how timeless and modern this enduring garment really is.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It really is a classic fabric that blends both timeless style and modern appeal.
Three fabulous jackets, all different, and each one beautifully styled. As you rightly pointed out, it is the colour combinations within the weave itself that offer the clues on the colours you can wear with it. As well as a necktie, I like wearing my tweed jackets with waistcoats in complementary colours, and by adding a double cuff shirt with antique cufflinks, the whole look can be elevated to an even higher level. Great fun! Lastly, I upgraded one of my older, less expensive, tweed jackets by adding elbow patches and swapping its plain plastic buttons for handmade leather ones. As well as adding interest, these changes have given the jacket a whole new lease of life.
Yes. That’s a great way to give your jacket a second life.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! We’re thrilled to hear how you style your tweed jackets and elevate them with complementary waistcoats and unique accessories. Your tips on adding elbow patches and swapping buttons are fantastic ideas for giving older jackets a fresh look.
Tweed will always have a place in my wardrobe. I am finally going to start wearing mine with the cooler weather. My tweed goes with everything. I can put on a pair of nice trousers, a pair of nice not elegant shoes, and a new shirt, with my panama hat and packet square and look better then most man out there. Add a tie and accessories and I look good. And most (not all) ladies will notice. In my opinion it never will go out of style if you respect what it does and how it should be worn. Great for cooler weather.
That sounds wonderful! Tweed is such a timeless fabric, and it’s great to hear you’re excited to incorporate it into your wardrobe for the cooler weather.
Excellent video again Mr Modoo. I would love a tweed suit and have had my eye on a Cordings House Check. However, I don’t think I would wear it that much as it is a typical ‘country’ suit in a green/brown/earthy check. Instead I am thinking about a Donegal in a blue herringbone. Still typically tweed and with a nod to country styling but much more wearable as a town/country suit.
Yes....great idea. Tweed is not always in "country" colours and blue and grey are smart, wearable choices.
I love the three piece one... So sharp and great
Thank you for your comment!
Yes please. Would love to see a presentation fully focused on tweed.
Thank you for your comment!
Great tweed! Love the houndstooth, always reminds me of a Sherlock Holmes mystery joined with Basil Rathbone.
Oh yes!
Your tweed jacket looks fabulous 😊😊😊😊😊
Many thanks!
Tweed is not outdated in the United kingdom. Sophistication of dress is their heritage along with fine furniture which America inherited.😊😊
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We absolutely agree that tweed remains a timeless classic in the UK, reflecting the rich heritage and sophistication of British style.
Interesting as always Chris. In one of your future videos, can you look at a mid green tweed suit with styling suggestions, I'm at a complete loss 😢
Hi..sure. What pattern is the tweed?
@@chrismodoo_menswearstylist hi Chris, the tweed has a herringbone pattern.
@@Plodder1 is it the one you’re wearing in your profile pic?
@@chrismodoo_menswearstylist yes
@Plodder1 it’s a lovely suit…let me have a closer look and I’ll make some suggestions.
Tweed never goes out of style. Even when it was uncool in the late 90s it came back just a few years later
Absolutely!
Working up the courage to commission a bespoke tweed sports coat.
Thank you for sharing!
I like the tweed suit example
Thank you!
No it is a wonderful fabric, better than most modern stuff.
Absolutely!
In winter I basically only wear Tweed jackets. In the academic everyday life you rarely need more formality.
I find that comment highly insulting. I plan to wear a Donegal tweed jacket as bridesgroom to my wedding and no one is going to stop me.
@@rastrats Never said you should not do it. I have a „more formal“ tweed jacket in dark blue with a wool/linen blend and it works perfectly for more formal activities.
Thanks for sharing!
Would charcoal colored trousers work best with all these tweed jackets?
Charcoal-coloured trousers are a versatile choice and can pair nicely with various tweed jackets. Thanks for your question!
A mid to dark grey flannel. Every time.
Of course, tweed has it place in a modern wardrobe. It keep you warm and dry. The older I get, the more I am a tweed fan.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We completely agree-tweed is such a versatile fabric that adds both warmth and style to any wardrobe.
Does any fabric mill make a light weight tweed?
Good question. Not all tweeds are heavy. Plenty of options at 12oz. And there are some great blends at lighter weights. What weight/use are you looking for?
@@chrismodoo_menswearstylist I love the look, but in even in the winter I am in a office which is heated to 68-70 deg F and can have warm conference rooms packed with folks. I have MTM suit makers that can use fabrics from most mills. I guess just a suggestion which makers or lines to check out. A blend sounds interesting as well if it still gives a tweed look.
@@TeslaRules1856 Loro Piana had a jacket bunch called summer tweed.
Also consider having the jacket partially lined. It will wear cooler.
Tweed is what you need if you're the breed to pull it off
You can appear as upper class without being quite the toff.
... William Shakespeare or some other guy
Quick Answer: No it is not outdated. Yes it does have a place in the modern wardrobe.
Thank you for sharing!
Good quality anything will never go out of fashion because it transcends fashion. I abhor the countless cheap, cheap “tweed” suits out there aimed specifically at the one-off wearer for weddings etc. dreadful clothing, poor styling and that awful fitting which means you can’t button up the coat, there is a gap between waistcoat and trousers and the trousers themselves need butter to get into.
Compare that to a quality tweed coat or suit and it’s light and day.
…yes…I know the “tweed” suits you refer to.
