Thank you for your honesty about Rainbow Fabrics ❤ I too have stop buying from them as the fabric is often poor quality , not as described, over priced, dirty or damaged, plus you have to wait ages for the postage.. being fobed of with a free reel of thread and a discount voucher for next time just doesn’t cut it any more.. I wish more vlogger’s were more honest, instead of singing their praises because they got free fabric.!
@@justletmesew Jenny stitches, 1st for fabrics, the fabric is good quality and a fast postal service, But for inexpensive fabric pound fabric is great and their deliver is great and very speedy too..!!
What a pretty Ilford jacket Tanya....I had no idea from looking at the cover and now I want to make one. I love your idea of taking a big label and turning it into an inside pocket. Super clever. xx Karen
Love the jacket. Don't apologise for calling someone they need to take more care. It's surprising how ill-informed some of these people are. It happens more than you think. Great vl9g ❤
I am with you on RF. I shopped with them a lot at one point but found the quality really variable and also had several times where I would order and then 2 weeks later get an email saying that they didn't actually have the fabric left. I do find that they are good for occasion fabrics though so I always keep an eye out when they do those. Also, I find that the 'drop' thing sort of counters the sustainability element of deadstock fabric as it encourages buying enmasse. Sometimes I am not sure what is and isn't deadstock anyway. They recently shared a video at a factory making Embroidered fabric and they purchased a load from there which obviously is not deadstock. Lovely guys and there is obviously lush stuff there, but it's tough when the products are so variable! Xx
100% agree with you. Lovely people but it's greenwashing, plus it's not on to mis-sell the fabric - take the time to test the composition if it's your bread and butter.
It's nice to hear an honest review. Too many vloggers are so desperate to get a freebie sent to them they never seem very objective about fabric and patterns. I love you jacket, especially the buttons
Great vlog as always. Love the jacket you could do the under collar with the interlining it would look lovely and would take bulk down. You need to show us though what you look like n your garments though ❤
Good idea to change the under collar, I considered that but didn't have a suitable fabric. Sorry I forgot the photos, I even had them ready to add. My laptop crashed half way through editing and I forgot all about them. I'll put them on my community tab, the green blouse is on Instagram if you're on there? Thanks for watching 🌸
Your Ilford jacket looks so snuggly. Love the buttons and lining in the sleeves matching with the label and loop🎉. I have some blue and white textured gingham that I want to use. It's a similar size to your green gingham which looks lovely as a blouse. Thanks for the inspo xx
Tanya your jacket and blouse are beautiful! I would definitely need a palette cleanser after that. I love the fabrics you chose for both of those garments.
Yes I’ve recently bought some fabric from Rainbow fabrics and it was a different colour and composition to what I’d ordered……so in future I shall buy less fabric and when I do buy , buy a better quality from elsewhere.
Fantastic makes. So impressed with your jacket. Buttonholes are definitely my nemesis. It’s a hold your breathe moment every time I try them in my machine. Usually a perfect test run and then it doesn’t work on my project very well 😕 not thought about hand sewing them. Thanks for the tips.
Your makes are absolutely beautiful! I would never attempt by hand buttonholes! I have a heavy duty Janome HD3000 that handles all kinds of heavy fabrics. If you decide to trim the collar seam… make sure to grade it… the outside seam slightly shorter than the inside seam. I don’t think it is necessary though… it is really nice as is.
Thank you Mary. The buttonholes were easier than I'd thought and not particularly neat, but they'll do! I think I need to grade it near the front so the collar lies flat but I'm worried I'll end up causing a bigger problem...
Your jacket is gorgeous! I love it. Everything from the bigger pockets to the little inside pouch to the beautiful buttons is fabulous. Lesson learned from your video today is to try out a pattern on someone else and then use the experience to make a better version for myself. LOL!
Thanks so much Diane, that's really kind of you, I'm so pleased with it. 🤣 I guess I did do that, I offered to make her another one but she wasn't keen hahaha!
Great video Tanya, thank you. I can't remember who I was watching on RUclips recently, they had made a jacket and because of the thickness of the collar, they had used a thinner contrasting fabric for the under collar.
Hi Mary, I think I also remember someone mentioning that. Sadly I didn't have a matching fabric so just kept to the thicker fabric - I'm too impatient!
I'm with you regarding rainbow fabrics. Doubled their prices and other places sell way better quality for same prices now. I've had numerous poor quality fabrics. Stated as viscose but its poly. I know this is correct as I've even seen it on pound fabrics and that was lots cheaper too. There are certain utubers who work with Rainbow fabrics and say oooh it's great fabric etc all the time. They will say that as they are getting free fabric and probably a commission. I have deleted my email from their company now. 1st for fabrics is way better and their viscose is cheaper
Love your jacket, the colour is gorgeous, your top looks lovely in the gingham fabric. I also ordered that rust fabric from Rainbow fabrics and was quite disappointed with it x
Hi, that's interesting that you ordered the same fabric too. I have now returned it, I just didn't want it sitting in my stash knowing I wouldn't use it.
You mentioned a trip to Goldhawk Road with Surrey Sews. Who/What are Surrey Sews? How can i find out more about them? I'm in Surrey and have found it hard to find any sewing events. Love your makes btw
Surrey Sews is a little sewing group that organises meet ups, it's run by Yvette @blossomsandwich She's on RUclips and Instagram, if you send her a message she can let you know about future events. Or, if you follow the hashtag #surreysews on instagram she also posts about next events. I organise a sewing get together in Redhill if that's local for you?
Thanks for getting back to me. I am definitely closer to Surrey Sews than Redhill. I have emailed Yvette via her Stash hub email, but haven't heard back yet. I don't use Instagram unfortunately.
Love your Ilford, but no idea how that went through the sewing machine! I've yet to test mine with thicker fabrics, although i believe it should cope. I have an Ilford lined up and have watched the lining video, so I hope to get that started soon (so many projects, so little time!). Mine will be needlecord with normal lining so hopefully not too taxing on the machine.
I took had something from rainbow fabrics recently that was not what they described. I bought some purple duchess satin, which turned out to be really rough and nothing like satin at all. They said I could have a refund if I sent it back at my own cost but it wasn't worth it.
Enjoyed this video. Disappointing for you re your fabric which wasn’t as described on the website. I hope you will find some use for it, have you got enough for a pair of trousers? Re the buttonholes on thick fabric, I’m wondering if lowering the presser foot pressure might help? I’ve not done this before, but worth a try on a scrap of fabric. Your hand sewn buttonholes look very neat anyhow, well done
Hi Julie, I sent the fabric back in the end as I wouldn't have worn that colour. I've never tried lowering the presser foot pressure, I'll look into that, great tip!
I’ve stopped buying from rainbow fabrics - I’ve had grubby fabrics, fabrics that really don’t meet the description and poor quality. I’d rather buy less fabric of better quality from elsewhere.

Hi Karen, thanks so much. It's a straightforward sew and lots of variations too. Enjoy making it x

Who doesn't like a freebie 😉 yep, I returned the fabric with a firm note stating why! Thanks for watching.
Hi, I like your honesty about the fabrics and I love your Ilford Jacket , thank you.
Thank you, honesty is a bit scary but I think it's important, as long as it's not rude. Thanks for watching
I love your Ilford 🥰 The patch pocket inside is a brilliant idea as is the coat hook. Genius!
Thank you Ruth, your Ilford is beautiful! It's a really versatile pattern x
Great idea with the pocket in the coat.
Thanks Jane 🌸
Both of you makes turned out fabulous! I especially like your red jacket……lush!,
Thank you so much, I've already worn the green top loads!

Thank you Maureen and thanks for watching 😊
Genius idea to use the patch as a pocket!
Thanks Yvette, I love a hidden pocket 😂
Great video, Tania, and thanks for the shout out for the #sewpadsforuganda24 ❤
Hi Catherine! Thanks so much for watching, happy to support in a small way ❤️
Amazing Ilford! Well done! I can imagine you need a nice quick easy project after that mammoth make!
Thanks Rachel. In a bit of a sew-jo rut after that! X
Lovely makes Tanya. Always appreciate honest reviews from vloggers, thank you 😊
Thank you Sue 😊

That's disappointing for you, I hope you have better luck at other stores.
Your McCall’s top looks so much nicer than the pattern cover. So many fantastic extras on your Ilford.
Thank you Christine, that's kind of you to say. It's nice how we can add those extra details to our clothes 😊

Yes, I have exactly the same issue sometimes with a perfect practice and then something happens on the main garment, sigh! Thanks for watching 😊

Hi Annette, thanks for watching. Which fabric shops do you recommend?
@@justletmesew jennystitches or sewsewsew I use a lot.

Hi, it's a shame isn't it. I also like 1st for fabrics, they have a great selection and always send orders quickly and beautifully packaged.
Look out for a 1980s or 70s Bernina sewing machine like Record, Sport or 1005 as they handle button holes on thick fabric 😊
Hi, I'd love to get a heavy duty machine one day. I think older machines last much better than modern day.

Hi, enjoy sewing up your Ilford, the needlecord will be a good weight fabric. I think my fabric was too fluffy for the feed dogs.
I took had something from rainbow fabrics recently that was not what they described. I bought some purple duchess satin, which turned out to be really rough and nothing like satin at all. They said I could have a refund if I sent it back at my own cost but it wasn't worth it.

Me too! I had a large piece with footprints all over it!
Big 4 paterrns stink for directions, and that low neckline happens more often than not
