- Did you know that a Sprint Car driver can move their wing DURING a race?!
Do you know why they move the top wing?
In this video, Toby explains the wing ram system, how it works, how drivers use it to their advantage throughout a ace.
There's a lot more to dirt track racing than you may think.

Great video, informative for new sprint car fans like me
Thanks, John!
This channel was created to create new Sprint Car fans so I’m stoked you like the content!
-Toby
More and more people coming on board because you are explaining so much that once only Drivers and Crew knew.
Super Cool 💯😎 decals on wing position are great for camara views, knock the paint off the tracks and lube the channel for max pwr
I’m just learning to drive a sprint car in iRacing and this video legitimately helped me understand why and when to adjust the wing. This is exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you!
Hahaha!! Amazing how many people think drivers just go round in circles. Reminds me when people sitting behind us at Liverpool around 35+ yrs ago asked if there were 'real people' driving the cars or if they were remotely controlled by someone in the pits. We tried to explain in very simplistic terms but they still didn't believe us, until a crash about 2-3 laps later when crashies, Ambos etc rushed to the scene, dragged the driver out he waved to the crowd, shaken and stirred, but OK. Hate seeing crashes, but this one came at just the right time.
We avoided explaining top wing adjustments as that would have been 'too much' for them to accept...give up while you are ahead!!
Another great video and thanks for your time, good clear and concise explanations for new fans.
Thanks for the video. I’m a drag racing fan, but am getting into more dirt racing. My Dad ran a claimer when I was a kid but nobody I knew did anything since.
Glad you enjoyed the vid mate! Welcome to speedway!

Man this is really interesting! For a while I thought the wing was just a fixed device but boy was I wrong. It's crazy how even the most minimal adjustments can alter the cars performance. I'm kinda new to sprint cars so this was really insightful. You got yourself a new subscriber buddy!
👍👍 nice explanation Hub.
Keep the great content coming.
Cali. Subscriber!
Thanks mate! Stoked to have you onboard!
-Toby
Keep them coming 👌 Tech videos are great. Would love some on car setup changes as the track evolves.
They're in the works!
Thanks for suggesting that!
-Toby
Love the tech info you provide.
Nice work mate, love it, good to get a drivers perspective
Awesome tech video. More videos on some tech would be awesome for the future
That's the plan!
Thanks, Dean.
-Toby
Another excellent video. Love the tech talk. Please do some more of this type of content. Thanks, Toby!
Thanks! Will do! It's something I'm planning on doing a lot of!
-Toby
Love the Tech tips, you do great work Toby keep it up.
Will do! Thanks, Paul!

Awesome video ❤it🏁
Toby, you are very good explaining tech subjects. Simply excellent!
Thanks, Chuck! It's a lot of effort but comments like yours make it worth it!
-Toby
Love the tech talk!!
Thanks, Beth!
We appreciate you watching and commenting!

Great insights! Some questions…
1. Do teams vary the angle of the wing at all (if so why / when) or is there an accepted ‘optimum’ and it’s only adjusted fore & aft?
2. I always assumed the gap between underside of wing / roof plate is generating the downforce, is this so?
3. Do drivers adjust front to rear brake bias during a race? I’d assume this would have same effect? Thank you!
Great work mate keep it up
Thanks mate!
Good stuff 👍
more tech vids. also loved the vids following the teams for the night. love ya work Toby, also how come you dont race anymore?
Thanks, Brendan!
I don't race anymore as my eye sight is not very good. To the point that I can't pass a medical. I did an interview with the DirtrackR RUclips channel a few months ago that explains a lot of it.
I really appreciate you asking but try not to make the channel about me too much.
I miss racing myself a lot but am glad I can provide this content when possible.
Thanks for the support of the channel, mate.
-Toby
Great explanation.
Thanks!
this stuff is epic
Good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
-Toby
Brilliant!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Chuck!

@@SprintCarHub Can you do an in depth video on how to start a sprint car?
Good clip mate
Thanks, Mick!
-Toby
excellent video Toby. Can you do the wheel spacers next please?
Maybe not next, but definitely in time!
-Toby
Also too Toby, can we get an explination as to why the front wheel always wobble around with little to no movement in the steering wheel. this is noticeable in the vid in the 4:25 mark
It comes from a combination of play between the heim joints, bar flex in the steering linkage, steering sector play, among other minor factors. All that movement is just the total of all the tiny movements between parts and it actually becomes less pronounced once the chassis is loaded under power.
Finally a way to explain this stuff to my mates 😂 Thanks Toby!
Is it possible to do a comparison of a sprintcar to a midget in terms of in car adjustments and their uses?
That's definitely a vid I want to make in the future. Lots of ideas on vids and that's one of them!
decal god idea
Are those wing location decals available for sale anywhere?
do WoO sprints run movable wings, too? this was eye opening lol
Yes.
Cool stuff, interesting to know. I do have a question. I have heard (and thought) that because of the speed if you guys move the wing back under green flag you have to wait to slow down under yellow to bring it forward again. I realise you probably move it back much more often, but just in case you go to far in your adjustment. Just curious
Good question. It can be difficult to move the wing forward. It's a combination of things. Obviously with the air pushing on the wing from the front, the wing doesn't really want to move forward. But it more so depends on what type of valve is used with the ram (my understanding). Some valves don't work as well to move the wing forward, whereas as some are. From my knowledge, the SWEET valve (the red anodised handle valve shown in the vid) is the valve that is best to move the wing forward under load.
@@SprintCarHub thanks for the explanation Toby
Can someone explain why the front wheels wobble so badly on Sprint cars? example at 4.47
I'll work on a vid for you mate!
-Toby
On top of a tear off every lap or 2
Can you run weight jackers down under?
Weight jackers?
In cockpit adjustable torsion stops
How come most if not all Australian tracks are so thin with barely 2 lanes?
What kind of havoc does wind play on this?
Nice you should discuss torsion bars /cross weights ect
A vid on that will come in time!
-Toby
