    try a dull end of flat screwdriver w automatic trans fluid as a lubricant is both slippery and prevents rust very rubber friendly simply tug on the rubber from the inside lip all the way around three times it sucks the window right in never bang on the window when installing thats how i was taught back in the 70s it works well

      That's the way the factory did it. Adds more strength to hold the gasket

    Great video on how to install a rear window on a 55 Chevy. Look forward to seeing the car completed .

    I used a Hot nail (Finishing nail heated with a torch) to pop the hole through the seal. No worry about hitting the edge of the glass with the drill bit.

    Ive done a few windshields and one rear glass thru the years on 55S .I find 1/8th or 5/32 rope works the best .That rope you have is to thick causing the glass to sit too high off the pinch weld. and being by yourself its even harder to install.Other than that you got by and thats a nice car .Best Of Luck!!!.................. Cool. I hope you have better luck with the windshield. I got two from that company, won't fit.

      Really. I haven't purchased windsheilds or back windows from them so I don't know. I heard from another guy that their fit is usually good. Maybe it was another company.

      @@darylvoorhees2629 Yes, I ordered the first from them, didn't fit. To their credit they sent me another for free, told me to trash the first one. Both went in the dumpster. I ordered 3 more from different places, all won't fit. What I have found out is all trim 5⃣ glass is from China. No more made here. I drove 300 miles for a used one, it fit perfect.

    Have you ever used a pinch weld primer before starting the installation?

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  4 месяца назад

      No, I don’t have a pinch welder and have never used one but that would be pretty useful. I only have a meg welder and every time I weld it’s like I’m a beginner again. Thank goodness for grinders.

      Pinch weld primer paint before the windshield goes in.

    what size rope and type, cotton or Nylon works best for you, beautiful Job Daryl.

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  Год назад +1

      J&J thanks. I used a cotton rope because it can absorb water easily and it’s pretty soft too. With it wet with water it can slide through the rubber easily. I think the size I used was about 1/4 inch

    Great video. Question, I didn't see you use any caulk strips like you did with the front. Was that not needed? Also, did you do a quarter glass installation video?

      Rear quarter glass on the sedans are a PITA, don’t let the small size fool you. Also the new rubber is close to $200

    Nice video, BUT... I didn't see where the "what not to do"? I did 5 second fast forwards a lot so I suppose I could have missed it? Can anyone tell me about what time the mistake/problem was?

    • @tonymicklose2778
      @tonymicklose2778 Год назад

      Oh another question, when showing which way the seal goes, is it the thick side in, small side out?

    Love the music of your videos your very honest and seem to be a regular guy . I been building cars for over fifty years and every project has something go wrong. Did you do the painting what kind of paint we used ?

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  Год назад +1

      Thanks GroverBuilt28. I doo all of my own work except specific things that need to go to the machine shop. The two tone paints are "Tropical Turquoise" from TCI and the Wimbledon White is from Eastwood. I agree that there are always things that don't workout as smoothly with builds. I'll have many videos highlighting pitfalls and how to avoid or overcome them.
