    I have a theory of the reason that the rear plate and gasket aren’t sealing. The bolts that hold it on are possibly bottomed out and not compressing the gasket. So I’ve added a couple of washers to each bolt so the bolts don’t bottom out and compress the gasket. We’re going to try this and cross our fingers.

  • @darylvoorhees2629
    @darylvoorhees2629 21 день назад

    Pulled the transmission out. The leak is coming from the top of the backing plate. I can’t believe it!!! I’m using silicone gasket maker to reassemble it. My patience is really running thin with this &$):-“ engine leak.

  • @darylvoorhees2629
    @darylvoorhees2629 21 день назад

    After reassembling the oil pan to the engine and testing there is still a leak!!! Next thing to do is pull the transmission off and see exactly where the leak is coming from.

  • @darylvoorhees2629
    @darylvoorhees2629 23 дня назад

    During the filming of this video I didn't realize the oil leak on the rear of the engine. Since then I dropped the oil pan and resealed the rear of the oil pan to the back plate. Tested again and still a big#$^(*!@ leak coming from the back of the engine. Now I have to pull out the tranny and finally see where the problem is. Other than that the engine starts and runs well. This oil leak is a real pan in the a$$ and is holding me up from doing other stuff on the truck.

    This was a dumb assumption on my part, but I realized I should have removed the original wires from the ECU to the AC Compressor for the clutch control and used the clutch control wiring from the Vintage Air kit. The ECU no longer controls the AC system at all. The Vintage Air compressor control wire is a single wire with either 12V to enable the AC clutch or 0V which disables the clutch. The other wire to the compressor is a ground wire.

    I'm very happy that the intake manifold fits on the engine block just fine, but there are a few misc things that have to be delt with to make it all work. I have heard stories from one RUclips channel that the manifold flexes under load and eventually cracks the weld joints on the runners. Hopefully that isn't the case. So we'll see.

    I get that feeling of wanting to get at least SOMETHING done on your vehicle, even after a hard day. Kilmat definitely sound deadens the panels so outside noise will penetrate the cabin less. What it won't do, is stop the echo of sound inside the cabin. Need some good open cell foam for sound absorption for that. Love the truck by the way! I'm working on an 86 F-150. One of those mini-rollers really help to make sure the kilmat adheres fully.

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the advice. I’ll be using closed cell foam for the door panels base with suede cloth and carpet. So that should work to help deaden the sound. Good luck with your F150 project

    Still early in my ‘55 Nomad project. My frame is a bit on the rough side but when the body comes off (and it has to to) I’m going install one of those kits that moves the leaf springs directly under the frame rails. I’m also going to ditch the original Chevrolet rear end (which leaks like crazy and has 4:11 gears) for a Ford 9”. This should give me room for a bigger tire.
