The Lonely Island has always held a very special place in my heart, but their movies are something else man. I think they’re all classics, but this one is an absolute masterpiece.

This was my favorite movie as a kid. My friends and I all saw it around the same time and we quoted it nonstop- including the Richardson dance which baffled our teachers.

I consider this as "wedding singer" of our generation. Ok maybe too much, I didn't cry watching hot rod, but still it's funny and touchs, just like wedding singer.

It's Napoleon Dynamite on stunt, maybe audience took this as another normal cashing comedy.

Fact: this movie tested thru the roof. Test audiences loved it. Just wasn’t marketed and supported properly

It's because of Napoleon Dynamite beat this humor to death, so when this came out. Everyone felt like it was poser and tried too hard to be like Napoleon Dynamite. This movie is amazing and stands on its own now but is 18 year olds at this time just thought it was trying to hard to compare to several others. I just remember it had to come out close to napoleon because of my blockbuster free movie pass.

I mean I was only 16 when this came out....But I never saw it as trying to be Napoleon Dynamite, I definitely saw them as seperate. Hot Rod had its own flair to it that Napoleon didnt and vice versa. I will say I think Hot Rod is a better movie, personally. But both movies were kind of ahead of their time because its kinds dead on Gen z humor, that if people werent open too, would just think is "stupid". Because it is dumb humor, but MASTERFULLY done dumb humor. Like the original Wet Hot(and honestly even the first season of the show).

I hate this movie, or actually more specifically Samberg. He married my goddess Joanna Newsom. I watched this years after it came out and my dislike for him maybe blinded me to the positives, so maybe I'll give it another look. Anything you suggest as a an underrated classic I usually go back and check out even if I don't always agree.
