dear riley, sorry about your cat. the hydraulic press challenge wasn't supposed to end like that. i have attached a scratch + sniff image of his internal organs, we will never forget you Whelan💓
Danny McBride talking about how people are taking advantage of all of the chaos and looting stores and shit while he’s holding the TV he stole is probably the funniest part.
@@albertmiller2electricbooga897 It does bother me a bit that for the "aged" thing, they don't really talk as much about style and tone as much as they do offensiveness. I'd like to hear them talk more about broader vibes I guess.
Love this movie, seen it countless times. Used to live right by the corner store where they do the dancing scene with the van, my friends and I would recreate that shit every day after school lol
This movie is such a classic to me. I couldn’t count the number of times this was playing in the background at our high school parties or the numerous times of falling asleep with this movie on. As a now 28 year old, this movie really shaped my high school years.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I teach high school English and show the riot scene when my students read “Animal Farm,” and we use it to analyze mob mentality. Introducing the younger generation to this movie is one of the most important parts of my job!
genuinely belly laughed at graysons pitch of michael cera playing denises boyfriend… also can you guys tell dignan to stop driving around my neighborhood with a roku remote and messing with my television set?
The parking lot dance scene is awesome when Rico is pushing Kevin into the side of the van. And I love Kevin’s quote when he says “I party, I’m Rod” and Rod says “no you’re Kevin” and Kevin’s like “oh yeah you’re right, Kevin. I like to party”
It’s crazy because I had no idea who Samberg was until I watched this channel. I don’t watch a lot of movies, and “parody rap” honestly pisses me off, but I’ve been a stan of his wife since she started making music when I was in high school. Hell I just paid $500 to fly to see her for one hour.
@@Randomjackass135 he’s married to Joanna Newsom right? She’s excellent. Samberg has made some great stuff with the Lonely Island too. Their parody rap is maybe the only exception for me lol. Hot Rod is a classic though.
Yeah, he's married to Joanna Newsom; they're part of my theoretically favorite celebrity double couple with Paul Thomas Anderson and Maya Rudolph. There's so much overlap between those four people that I cannot wait for Andy Samberg to show up in a PTA movie. Popstar Never Stop Never Stopping involves a lot of the same people as Hot Rod and it may be even better. Not quite as Wet Hot American Summer-y as Hot Rod. More conventional but also probably more consistently funny.
@@HotStrange I’m sorry, I refuse to believe anyone can be a fan of Joanna Newsom and The Lonely Island. Then again, I’m black, and all parody rap comes off as just racist to me. Also I’m from the indie sleaze era so she was like idk Clairo for us. And Lonely Island is insanely normie. No disrespect. Again, I think it’s a black thing.
@@Randomjackass135 lol no disrespect taken and fwiw I prefer the lonely islands skits and movies over their music but I was like 16-20 when they were poppin off so it’s nostalgic as hell for me. Is Hot Rod really normie though? I know like 4 people that have seen it lol
i really like the format of these videos. as somebody who occasionally listens to movie discussion podcasts, it’d be cool to have this on spotify. (with a voiceover for the on screen segment changes)
I’ve probably seen this movie close 100 times. Not even exaggerating, this was like my families favorite comedy and we’d watch it with my dad like 10 times a year
Loved this movie. I hadnt even heard of it and came accros it by accident. It made me aware of Andy Samberg. Obviously he was more known in the states but as a Scotsman it was the first thing I seen him in. Watching it stoned helped 😂
i love the richardson dance montage where it does hard cuts to him just in a different spot and it seems like one of those little edit detours but then dave’s reaction implies that the “cuts” are actually in-universe
13:35 literally one of my friends, he'll do entire bits that I sometimes don't recognize. His brother is the guy behind dracula flow too, so ig they're all insane
I couldn't believe critics didn't enjoy this movie, not because I can't imagine critics being wrong, but because this movie is phenomenal, and one of my favorite movies. One of a handful of 2000s comedies that manages to really hold up...
9:51 that scene was completely improvised. Danny was told “and then you beat him up” and the entire scene was him just making it up as he goes along. It’s on the Danny McBride iconic roles RUclips video.
Random fun fact: the sort of inspirational song that plays when Rod is about to do the final big jump is an instrumental piano "lounge" version of Skulls by The Misfits
My all time favorite line, partly because of the delivery, is Danny McBride saying “Yoo-hoo sh!theads, I just found some fireworks in the men’s bathroom, would you all like to light them off?”
I like to call those kinds of weird jokes, production jokes. Wet Hot as an example.....They can throw a shovel, a glass, a rock, off screen and it makes the SAME ceramic shattering noise. I love how it pulls you out and gets like pseudo-meta.
as a huge lonely island fan, im so glad yall covered this movie lol. plus TLI just covered it on their podcast with seth meyers as well, lots of great tidbits about the production there
Before I start the video I just want to say Hot Rod is one of my favorite comedies of all time. Oh, and it was one of the only movies I had for my Sony PSP 🤣🤣
Man I love this movie so much and I agree with everything y'all said in this video EXCEPT saying that it's definitely Andy's best movie. Popstar 100% gives it a run for its money.
Andy Samberg falling down the hill for what feels like 5 minutes is still one of the funniest scenes in movie history
the "SHIT" he lets out right before he trips over the log is so good
@@quarternipp “🎶if… you… don’t… give… your… heart… wings… you-“ “SHIT”

I laughed so hard the first time I saw that scene I pulled a muscle.
The one from Black sheep is better tbh.
It's def a nod to black sheep
15 buses? that's nothing, dignan jumped 16 busdrivers
And not people who drove busses, he cloned the rapper busdriver 15 times just for the stunt

Why did I read this in the flow to Meet the Grahams
Why did I read this in the flow to Meet the Grahams
short answer: it aged incredibly and it is one of the greatest movies ever released in the past 50 years
Can’t forget when Dave said “you know, pools are great for holding water”
Best comedy line of the 00's
That line hits so hard 😂I don’t think I noticed it until the second or third time I watched it
“Yoo hoo shitheads. I just found a bag of fireworks in the men’s restroom. Would you guys like to light them off?”
Used to be my ringtone

they need to do napoleon dynamite in this series
goat movie
that movie aged like fine wine
I feel like there won't be much to say

Thankfully this man didn't need to hit unsubscribe
This was shot in my home town. The pool he jumps in was a 5 mins walk from my old house. Just adds on the nostalgia of this movie
It sucks this series is getting less views that everything else, I’m not a film guy but this is very entertaining
Finna pop off
Movie is absolute gas from what I remember
Best scene is when Denise’s boyfriend is shouting Babe after her, it’s not funny at first but it gets funnier the longer it goes on
You can't forget the "What's the song about the grandma that got ran over by the reindeer? "
Honestly one of my favorite comedies to this day
You guys forget the part before Rods fights with his dad:
“Ancestors protect me”
“May they protect you”

i always crack up when kevin keeps getting shoved into the car in the 2 of hearts scene. Great movie.
Some things I like is how it’s mostly a normal movie but has a few moments that just turn into tim and eric bits.

I showed my friend this movie the other day and he loved it.. I think it's one of the best comedies

One of the greatest comedies ever made. Still brings me to tears.
i wrote a paper about this movie for my film class in college and my professor still uses it as an example of a good ass paper
it was an analysis of the music and sound in the movie and it was honestly such a perfect choice because the music in this movie is SO perfect
I watch this movie very regularly and quote most of it
I still regularly quote “You have only to believe if you wish to achieve.” Second only to Superbad imo
