Try to not slice as much except on your serve returns. Your balls are hanging in the air to give your opponents more time and/or you're giving them top spin to attack back at you. You have such a good twoey backhand drive and forehand drive, utilize those to keep up the pressure. Great videos and fun to see your pickleball journey!
Hey Paul. Also coming from a strong background in tennis, I know it will take you a while to develop a PB singles game vs. your tennis tendencies/abilities/tactics. Watching your first match for example, it looked very much like tennis, with hard driving shots on most points, with no cat-and-mouse (a Johns' specialty), resets/drops, etc. to keep you in the point, or give your opponents what they DON'T want. If you added more hybrid drives (more "bend" and less straight-line power), you would make it much more difficult for your opponents to volley your passing shots, and especially to put them away for winners. But you will catch on quickly, for tennis fundamentals will always serve as a good foundation to build from. I will keep a watch out for you at The Ranch, for I am always looking for a game of singles myself. Keep up the good work!
Hey man! I've seen you at Pickle Ranch a couple times. I have a lot of paddles that you could try if you want. Coming from tennis, there's some other options beside the DBD that may benefit your game and skills a lot more.
I'm not an expert but I feel like singles pickleball plays a lot more similar to singles tennis while doubles pickleball is bit different from doubles tennis.
Where do you find singles matches, DUPR games and tournaments? I live in austin and go to the pickle ranch too but haven’t found much. Would love to play with you sometime btw! A 3.7 Doubles DUPR
I would say your Singles DUPR should be around 4.0. You did great in that tournament and you are making progress and starting to get up to the kitchen line more.
Hmmm I think it costed me about $160? I don't have a referral code for 6.0, but if you're interested in Volair, 11six24, Spartus, or Vatic Pro, I have referral codes (eellaup) for those. You'll get about 10% off. I'll probably be trying out the Spartus Olympus and Volair Mach1 Forza soon. I started in June 2024, so about 3 months now?
I think playing singles take less skill than doubles. In singles you keep the ball away from the competitor. In doubles you need to dink and place the ball better.
I'd say each requires a different set of skills despite being played on the same court. passing shots down the line and cross court along with agility and strong backhand are a must for a singles strong player. while dinking accuracy, smart placement, drop/drive balance, teamwork, and fast hands are the ones for a strong doubles player.

Love the videos bro. I’ve been watching your vids while I do work in class 😂❤
@Chalchea who needs a 4.0 in school when you can get it in pickleball 😂

i absolutle love the content! keep it coming!
what paddle was Dan using in the third game? It has such a different sound.
Diadem Vice... it's not a legal paddle, i've never seen the ball move so fast
Had a dude at my local courts use that paddle. Aced everyone almost every time. It was insane.

Singles is way better. I prefer the workout, way less dinking and don’t have to worry about disappointing your teammates.
Or teammates disapointing you.
At 14:09 he holds him self up and his hand goes in the kitchen and that is a violation next time you can call that
Whoa! its so hard to see in the moment though
I came to comments to point this one out :) good call out!

How did you put your camera against the flat wall?
I had a tripod!

Dan wins every point that he pushes the net and loses every point he doesn't
I like playing singles more than doubles.
I'm still debating which one I like more
Same here I prefer singles it’s a better workout and way more fun imo
Same here...problem is, it's a lot harder to find guys that want to play singles over doubles. (or are in good enough shape)
hey would love to practice singles with you guys, is this a tournament or just friends hanging out?
Opponent in game 2 really loves chopping.
What camera do you use?
DJI Osmo Pocket 3!

I'm currently using 6.0 DBD 14mm, might change it up in future vids though.

I think based on todays play you looks like a solid 3.5+ When your backhand pass is working more like a 4.0
The sound every time you hit 😅

I definitely get punished more in doubles
