I think whether or not you like Kevin's movies, there is no one anywhere i'd rather listen to talk about how movies impact him and how it relates to his family and things. He's so genuinely affected by them its just pure passion and its joyful.

My dad was a fan of all things Star Wars. Near the end of his life, he didn't know how to operate a DVD player and didn't care to learn. I'd hear him call my name from the living room and I'd come in. "What's up?" I'd say. "Will you put in Return of the Jedi for me?" he'd ask (it was his favorite SW flick). So I would, and he'd watch it all the way through. Sometimes we'd watch it together and talk about it while it was playing (now I wish I'd done that more often).
Anyway, TFA was coming up in 2015. He'd seen the teaser and the trailer for it, grinning all the while. Words can't express how much he was looking forward to seeing it, even though it'd have to wait till '16 because he just couldn't sit for two hours in a theater seat anymore. He died suddenly, eleven days after it was released into theaters. When my niece took me to see it the week of his funeral, I had a very hard time enjoying it. All I kept thinking is, "It's not fair. It's just not fair he's gone and can't see this." And that thought would keep coming back to me every time a new SW movie came out over the years. It's just not fair he's gone.
Then, The Mandalorian premiered in 2019. By then, I wasn't wallowing in grief anymore and the thought occurred to me, "Dad would've loved this." And I realized how I knew he would have. It wasn't just because he was also a big fan of the spaghetti Westerns it pays homage to, or because Boba Fett was his favorite SW character, or because the show had elements of ROTJ in it. It was because, I realized, my dad lives on in me. He's not gone, never was. As long as I'm alive and watching and enjoying every minute of Star Wars, so is he. It kinda reminds me of the story Kevin told about his late friend Pete who had all the SW action figures. At the end of that story, Kevin says, "We made it, Pete!" Not, "I made it," but "We." So I know Kevin understands.
Dad would have doubly loved Boba Fett's return and The Book of Boba Fett. I once read him Boba Fett's story in Tales from Jabba's Palace, the one where Boba escapes from the Sarlacc pit. Dad said, with a big grin, "I knew he wasn't dead. I knew he'd get out. Maybe they'll bring him back in a movie someday." And that came back to me at the end of the first episode of Mando Season 2. I laughed out loud. Dad was right, and we were both so excited to see our old friend. BOBF has even more ROTJ stuff in it, so we loved that too.

I frakking ADORE Kev Smith. I'm so very glad the widowmaker didn't take him, otherwise we'd never have the first 10 minutes of this panel where he so viscerally and perfectly explains what it's like to meet your parent outside of their parent role for the first time. Haven't even finished the rest of the panel yet, but I had to say thanks for that, legit teared up on that story. One of the best damn orators of my lifetime.

Damn. I was tearing up watching this. My best friend passed away in March and we loved Clerks. I have aspirations of getting into directing and we floated the idea of doing a Clerks-like short film at the job we both used to work at. Never panned out. I thought back to that as I was watching this and then at 42:48 the story that guy told really hit me. My friend and I had a gaming channel where it was sort of like a podcast but just about random shit while we played games. Very thankful I have all of those memories. I know he’d want me to pursue filmmaking. I have ideas but no idea where to start. But that was a beautifully timed moment and it really hit me.

Its funny hearing Kevin and Jay fight over the same thing.
Kevin "its been 3 years since they shut it down they shut it down for 3 years"
Jay "They shut it down for two years 2020 and 2021"
Kevin "exactly thats three years, this is 2022"
Jay "but we were here in 2019 and here now"
Kevin "we can't do math here in front of the people"

It’s funny because Jay is actually right lol.
Jay said “it was closed for 2 years”
It was closed for 2020, and 2021.
It was open for 2019 and 2022.
It’s been three years since they last had a comic con, yes. But it was closed for 2 years which is what Jay said lol.
