All songs on this album are fantastic, one of the best albums of the 90s decade. Check out more from this album "August And Everything After." Personal favorites include Anna Begins, Murder Of One, Sullivan Street, and Rain King. Can't go wrong.
Have always loved this song, and I’ve always thought the lyrics were about the singer’s “need” for recognition & fame, and how fulfilled he’ll finally be once everyone loves him - and even as he sings about this, he also reveals that he’s lying to himself.
I’m going to be 64 in July and I’ll tell you… This is one of my all-time favorite songs! The video is fantastic as well. I’m a painter and the narrative in this song is so painterly plus he mentions Picasso, my second favorite artist.😂
My teenage girls played this ALL the time! It got stuck in my head, and I d sing that main line, but didn't t really know any more. They d roll their eyes, and tell me I didn t know what I was singing. I just waved them away and said, "Never mind, little girl . . . me and Mr Jones -- we got a thing going' on . . . ". But they had never known about Billy Paul, and were not impressed.
You will never get sick of listening to this song Harri. It is in my top 5 songs of all time, always has been, everything about it is perfect, but the lyrics I think really make it so special, along with Adam Duritz's delivery of them, it's art and you will find a new treasure in them on every listen. Thanks Harri for all your brilliant reactions. ❤
You should hear/watch some live versions of "Anna Begins". At some point in the middle of the song, Adam starts telling a completely new story about the main character. The band just stays quiet and lets him do it. Because new, interesting and, above all, highly emotional stories are always developing. Another example: End of the studio version of the song Mr.Jones: "Mr. Jones and me, we're gonna be big stars!" Nowadays, live: "Mr. Jones and me, we don't see each other much anymore". That's what he does: he lives his songs and they change with him.
I agree, the video and song are perfect complements for each other and somehow add magic to the mix. You will always hear the song on the radio and bounce because of the videos energy. Similar to The Love Shack by the B-52's and What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy) by The Information Society
Counting Crows have lots of great stuff, check 'em all out. I love the words to all of them, Murder of One is great when you figure out that a group of Crows is called a Murder
Great reaction to a great song! Thank you. I can’t help but assume the title is related somehow to Bob Dylan’s Ballad of a Thin Man (especially due to the man’s call out).
Harry, you can play it again. They did a fantastic acoustic version of this on VH1 Unplugged. Look for it. It is worth it. Some lyrics change and in the end he sings, “Mr Jones and me, we don’t see each other much any more.” The protagonist reminisces about hanging with his friend and speaks of his internal identity crisis -this unclear path to happiness, love and what it means to want to be famous. The version is just a tad slower but with no sacrifice in physical performance. The lyric is delivered with so much more meaning and intensity. Would be great for you to do a comparison video! One of my all time favorites.
Takes me back to the time I was driving with this CD playing; on the road to the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel at 5 am in the rain ... listening to "Raining in Baltimore".
Adam's story is so interesting. You should listen to his recent interviews about becoming famous and the aftermath. He became a bartender for a while after their first tour. Gwen Stephanie and other people have interesting stories about coming home from their first tours and don't know what to do with themselves because they're confused about the whole fame thing and being the regular person they are.
I remember the first time I paid actual attention to this song. I was in The CC Club with a good friend, Brad, and we were just hanging out and bullshitting our way through the evening. That bar is semi-famous locally. Midway between the Wedge and Uptown neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Heard it a few times before on the radio, but first time I paid real attention. I liked the scruffy, scratchy start. I really liked when it blossomed open with the chorus. Not a great song, but really pretty damn good. Fit the night perfectly. Listening to it now brings me back to that rather uneventful, but super nice and dear memory of just hanging out and drinking beer with a good friend in a good bar.
A great song Sir.... do you know "Counting blue cars" by Dishwalla.... Is amazing smash rock song of 1996 with a very unique feel and style like MR. Jones by Counting Crows!
Most of that album is great. My high-school age sons were listening to it many years ago and I got hooked, and it is still included on any playlist I have. Well, except the classical playlist. 😉 Thanks, Harry!
Counting Crows and Goo Goo Dolls are so underrated -- but well known for sure! I would love to recommend two super unreal artists (& songs) that would be new to most everyone! First is Yuna's -Unrequited Love (she also does the song Crush with Usher). She is from Malaysia and she, and this song, are like hearing the new SADE. The other woman unreal talent from Denmark is Agnes Obel -- try the song Aventine from her Aventine album. Lots of songs to try but everyone will be enchanted with this unreal new genre busting style and the caliber of composition and recording. Love your passion on all your Reactions!!

I really liked this one and "Round Here"
I've watched many interviews with Adam Duritz, and the only thing I want to tell him is how beautiful and funky he is.
Have always loved this song, and I’ve always thought the lyrics were about the singer’s “need” for recognition & fame, and how fulfilled he’ll finally be once everyone loves him - and even as he sings about this, he also reveals that he’s lying to himself.
Adam Duritz’s voice is so emotionally expressive. That quality is the Counting Crows’ secret sauce in my opinion.
The whole album is 🔥🔥

I felt so symbolic yesterday 😊

August and Everything After, the debut album that features Mr Jones is one of those rare albums with NO weak tracks, An amazing album
One of my all-time favorite songs. Also one of my favorite videos
I didn't think much of it the first few times, but then I watched the music video and I got I totally understand and that guy sang his ass off
They are coming to my town this summer and I will be there. Mr Jones must be followed up by MRS. POTTER.

Yes, this entire album is pure fire!
Adam Duritz is a lyrical genius!! What a legend!! This song never gets old!! Check out their songs/videos "Round Here" and "A Long December".
I had heard of Counting Crows but hadn’t heard them. This band is terrific!
I LOVE THIS SOMG!!!.
It’s a great somg!
Great song💃💃💃💃💃💃
This song and A Long December are my two favorite Counting Crows songs. Nice reaction Harri.🎧🤩
Mr Jones is acronym for heroin.
I liked this one and "Round Here"
That album is one of my favorite albums ever. I love this song.
David T -Nice submission from an album full of great music. Harri, your review was spot-on.
Spot on reaction, the song is surprisingly deep but good energy 🙏
Great reaction as always 😊! Thanks Harri!😊
Hi Harri top of the Morning to ya from michigan love this song since it came out thanks for your time and reaction much love to ya bro🌞✌️
This is the song I measure my age against my best friend. We met about the time the song came out. So I go 18 years ago.... now it is nearly 30...
This song came out when I was in High School. It is by far one of the best all time songs of the 90s.

I LOVE the Counting Crows, my son surprised me with tickets about 4yrs ago...they were Awesome!!! Check out others...Mrs Potters Lullaby
I got to see them in '94 when they warmed up for the Rolling Stones...
One of the best bands ever.
I forget what a great song this is. Had the album. It was all good. Try Perfect Blue Buildings sometime. Fantastic tune.
This entire album and then even the follow-up album, recovering the satellites, is incredible
Great band and song!

I forgot about that! My favorite acoustic of theirs is Angels of the Silences. I'll have to add both of them to my playlist.
That VH1 performance was great. I especially love it’s rendition of Rain King.

Great song album band love them love you
Love his sound ❤ and his total brilliant lyrics ❤. And his style ❤

🔥 Mr. Jones is inspired by Bob Dylan tune "Ballad of a Thin Man!"
love this song!!
Great band 👍
This album is on my list👏💕
Great choice David. I love this and hadn’t heard it in many years. Lovely commentary from Harri as usual 🌺✌️
Totally do Long December ❤❤
Another great reaction thank you. Deathcab for cutie Follow you into the dark is one you should really check out.
Harri, I love your reactions… you seem very genuine… keep it real!
Back in the 90s you could do any style and find an audience. Not so much any more.
Harri, fantastic reaction! When are you going to have your buddy reacte with you again, that was a good time.
Record labels were bidding against each other to sign them, joke was Accounting Crows. Great song nonetheless!🖖🏼

I'll say this....this is not all you have missed and this is off the first LP. Much ahead of you.
I remember when this song came out. Nobody had ever seen a white guy with deadlock hair before. Great song.
They were all over the bay area, especially Berkeley and West Marin as far back as the early 80s
@@mandandanmandamayor3511 West Coast is weird. Out here in Connecticut that nonsense isn't acceptable.
I have to agree… A great 1st album…
Dude was with Jennifer Aniston at her peak, legend.
Please check out Round Here, I think you will really enjoy, it is my favorite from this album.
❤
I'm pretty sure it's their biggest song. I'm not sure how you missed it either lol.
"I wanna be Bob Dylan..." kind of suggests he wants to be a big star but somebody who has an impact and makes a difference.
I always thought it was thrown in to appease Dylan for using Mr Jones.
@@mandandanmandamayor3511quite possible.
Great 90s album, don't think they've replicated the quality since though there have been a couple of other good albums from them.
Check out Mrs. Potter's Lullaby by Counting Crows. You'll like it if you like good lyrics.
now, you MUST do Dylan's "Ballad Of A Thin Man"
Would you do reaction to for your babies- Simply Red?
Try long December
Mr Jones is heroin.
Great reaction as always 😊! Thanks Harri!😊
