- By far the easiest method for cleaning the bottom of our pool. We wanted a pool vacuum for our pool so we no longer have to use the hose plugged into the pool skimmer method for cleaning. Our pool has a vinyl pool liner so a self guided vacuum (creepy crawly) is too risky. In this episode we unbox and tryout our new pool tool and show how good it picks up the dirt and debris. This is the Max Li model of Pool Blaster Vacuums.
The Pool Blaster vacuums are rechargeable so they don't have any cords or hoses. Our cleaning time is just a fraction of what it used to be.

this is my favorite pool gadget in my arsenal. the filtration is so good that it doesn't let anything back into the pool. we only run the filter on our small pond twice a week, and skimming and vacuuming alone is enough to keep the water crystal clear.
I just saw this same one at BJ's, I'm sold thanks to your review. This is so much easier than the other methods.

Reviews are mixed but it seems most folks like it. This models screen is not fine enough for the ultra fine dirts so folks, including us, use pantyhose over the screen to make the screen finer. At the end of the day we still use the pool filter for the major cleanings but this is a good way to bridge the gap between cleanings.

I just bought this after seeing your review and others. The unit is now slightly changed with the charging outlet next to the power button. It’s a good sucker for sure, getting the silt and dirts very well for my koi pond. I had a pool blaster catfish three years ago and it died in less than a year due to leakage into the batteries. Hope this modified version lasts a couple of years.
Great! Yeah, ours is still alive and kicking 3 years later. I make an extra effort to ensure the battery doesn’t stay low for too long. I’m guessing that’ll be the weak point on these.

Looks like it works much better than the one I bought.
It does a good job for the larger stuff but we haven’t found anything that cleans the finer materials better than the traditional pool filter vacuum. Supposedly you can use a sock with the Pool Blaster to better collect the finer materials but haven’t tried that yet.
@@thehobbymechanic47 The Volt fx2 I'm complaining about actually does well with the little stuff but I have to use the skimmer for the larger debris. The sock sucks up all kinds of stuff that has to be rinsed out. Thanks again.
I just gave mine its first try. We have Arizona monsoons so there's a lot of dirt in my pool that the filter system missed. This pool vac did pick up quite a bit of dirt and some tiny stones. I'm thinking to use a panty hose sock next time to get the finer dirt. Will let you know how that works. You have to press down some to keep it on the floor. Was easy to use. Glad I bought this cause my pool service company charges extra to vac after storms.
ok folks, I tried the panty hose sock. Slip it inside the filter and fold over edge. It worked! Got the fine dirt. Trick is to go slowly so as not to stir up the fine dust. Clean it right away so its ready for your next use.

I bought one, and finally got to use it this past Monday. It pulled everything out, just as marketed. What I did notice, however, is that as of yesterday morning, the sand that I had sucked out was back into the pool. I don't think we have a Saharan dust problem right now, so I'm assuming that the finer sand passed through the coarse filter, and right back into the water. I wasn't swimming so I didn't notice it.
I've read a review, on Amazon, that putting a knit stocking over the filter really works on keeping the sand in the filter, so I will try that in a couple of days.
We noticed the same issue. The finer stuff just passes through the screen. Hope the sock helps. Please let me know!

I put a panty hose sock and it traps all the sand. My pool is very clean now

I'm about to purchase one, I just fond your video, and it was great! Dumb question? Do you still you it? Or should I say does it still work?
We still use it. I’ve been religious about ensuring the battery never goes completely dead over the off season. I assume if it goes dead for too long a period then you might need to replace the battery. Other than that, we use a nylon over the catch net to better catch the finer particles. We think it’s good for quick cleanings but still use our main pool pump for the bigger messes.

It’s an “In The Swim” brand insulated cover I bought on Amazon. The reel is “In The Swim” brand as well.

That specific cover is for heating. The cover will heat the pool to mid 70’s without using the propane heater and it maintains heat better in cold temps when the heaters on. We live in the Pacific Northwest so it can get pretty cold at night.
We’re still satisfied. Our only gripe is that the finer materials moves through the screen and ends up back in the pool. Someone else posted that you can add a sock to the screen so that could possibly resolve that issue. That’s the only issue we’ve come across so far.
Do these types of handheld vacuum need to be fully submerged? Can they vacuum shallow steps, spa steps, etc.?
It pretty much needs to be fully submerged. We can vacuum our second step but not the first. It has to be submerged enough to flow water through the unit.

Hi, I am considering getting one of this. If you don't mind me asking... I see you uploaded this video 2 years ago. How's the battery on this vacuum holding up so far? Still taking full charge and lasting an hour? I'm sure battery technology has improved a lot over the years, but I can't help but remembering my experience using handheld rechargeable carpet vacuums in the past and it seemed that after a year or so, the battery would start getting weaker charges to the point it would no longer work and the battery could not be replaced in the unit. Can the battery for this pool vacuum be replaced? Thanks!
Following.. Had the same questions.
The battery is still going strong after 2 years. I’m pretty religious about charging it periodically in the off season so the battery doesn’t drain and die. Other then that we’ve found it’s a pretty good solution but doesn’t entirely replace the pool pump vacuum for picking up the finer dirt. Sounds like we can put a womens nylon in the catch bag for the finer dirt but we haven’t tried that yet.

I just bought this. If you don't have too much to vacuum and I am talking about just here and there you will be ok. My pool needs something more than this can handle. I have a 20-40 foot inground pool that has alot of debris and it's not doing that well.
Yeah, we use ours mainly during the summer months when we vacuum out the little bit of dirt that accumulates between pool uses. We still have to use the pool filter/pump for the major clean outs when the pool hasn't seen much use.

@north4961 the video was the first time I used it. I thought it would be a fun under water video to make. The vacuum appears to pick up everything but the smaller dust particles don’t get stopped by the screen and get released back into the water. So for a weekly cleaning to scoop up the leaves and debris it works great but for larger cleanings where there’s a lot of dust/dirt I still need to use the larger pool filter.
@@thehobbymechanic47 I purchased the Volt FX8 - supposed to pick up sand and silt - little more powerful than Blaster and comes with 2 filters of which one is for fines 👍🙏🇨🇦

The one in the video is the Pool Blaster Max Li. Here's a link to the one I bought. FYI, I'm not affiliated with Amazon or Pool Blaster. Also, looks like there's alot of different models to choose from. I may upgrade mine to a more powerful unit at some point. They're extremely convenient to use but I feel I could use a bit more power sometimes.

Could you explain why the creepy crawly is risky? My client has one for her pool. She's a new homeowner and it came with the house.
I don’t really know if they’re all that risky. Our pool is cement with a rubber pool liner so I always worry about puncturing the liner. I don’t think the creepy crawlers are all that powerful but I just worry about wear and tear that it may cause. I wouldn’t worry at all if the pool is plaster, tile, etc.
Mine lasted a little longer than a year. It worked very well for supplemental vaccuuming in my 30k gallon pool, about once a week. Then the battery stopped charging. The problem is that it's very difficult to replace the battery on these; and if it craps out or you accidentally leave it charging for too long and it zaps the battery, then you have to buy an entire new motor housing with the battery in it, or just buy a new one entirely.
Next time I'm going to make sure I get one that I can easily take apart and pop a new battery in.
All that being said, it works great for the price, and if you have the money and you're not at all handy with taking things apart and fixing them, you could just buy a new one every now and then.
Yeah, I’ve been religious about charging the battery. I don’t leave it plugged in either. I’ve had issues with other chargeable tools that have gone dead as a result of leaving plugged in. I’m guessing the manager stops charging at some point and never starts up again. Happened on a hedge trimmer and a Dyson vacuum so I’ve been down that road.

I assumed that this one, being Li (lithium) would not suffer from being left charging for too long. I have drills and blowers etc that can be left charging for days with no problem. /shrug
I just got my Pool Blaster MAX Li HD. I'm afraid to put it in water because it doesn't appear to have any suction power with just light testing with my hands. Does it take awhile to ramp up the power (from a suction perspective)?
It needs to be in the water to create the suction. It works with an impeller that forces the water through the vacuum.

Just got one of these but I’m having trouble putting the adapter into the pool blaster .
What am I doing wrong ?

Did you figure this out? It connects to your standard sized pool poles.
I read on another link that if you plug the adapter into the outlet first then place it into pool blaster until the light goes on. It's a little tricky just don't force it. As long as the light goes on it will charge even though you don't hear any click. That's what I did.
One problem with these is when trying to clean up dirt particles, it goes right through this unit
Yep, that's absolutely a problem with these. It doesn't replace the traditional hose/skimmer method of cleaning but is a good quick clean for the larger stuff if the pool is regularly maintained.
you can put an extra layer of filtration back over the existing bag. it does a better job at picking up finer dirt. you can find them on amazon for really cheap
Does it will work well for loose algea on floor?
Definitely not for slimey algae and not for the really fine dead algae particles but does for the bigger stuff.

This is self contained correct? You said hook it up to your pool you meant put it in your pool? Or hook it up to your pole?....it's basically a dustbuster right? I'm going to try it
Yeah, pole. It’s totally self contained and battery powered. If you go with this or something like this just make sure to keep your battery charged when not in use. Once the battery goes completely dead you’ll have to replace the battery.

Does it clean up dead pool algae on liner??
Its entirely possible but I haven't used it for that. I usually use a pole with a scrubbing attachment on the end to loosen the dead algae first then get it when it settles to the bottom. Good question.

Yep, it attaches to your standard skimmer pole.

I don’t think it will out of the box. We always use the pump filter for the finer stuff. Someone posted to try putting some pantyhose in the bag to try to capture the finer particles but we’ve yet to try that.

Great suction, but it doesn't do well with algae. Literally shoots most of debri right back into pool, which makes it extremely cloudy
Yeah, that’s the downside. Algae is too fine for the screen as is other fine dirts. We use pantyhose to make the screen a bit finer. We still use the pool filter for the major cleanings but this vacuum works good to bridge the gaps between big cleanings.
Was it able to clean your entire pool on one charge?
Yes, the battery seems to be sufficient for standard residential pools.
Do the pool blaster pick up sand in the pool?
Depends on how fine of sand you have. We don’t get much sand in our pool though so can’t give you a good honest answer.
Does it come with the handle? I got the cheaper green pool blasted for my pool. What a piece of crap. Worst 100 bucks i ever spent
You have to use your own pole. It’s the standard pole used for your pool skimmer/net.
Will it be safe to be inside the pool while vacuuming??
I was in the pool while vacuuming with no issues.

No, it’s still working. I assume folks don’t maintain the battery through the off season. I’ve been making sure it stays charged otherwise the battery will need replacing which I’m not sure if possible or not. Pretty much like any battery operated device.

No, the pole is just your standard skimmer pole.

I believe it’s just a mixture of dirt/pollen/leaves/etc

Definitely not acorns and depends on the size of the leaf. If your talking maple leafs then probably not but it works for the small stuff. We still use our traditional vacuum for the big clean outs.

The pool in the video isnot the same in the beginning of the video its a concrete or plaster pool when the lady starts cleaning its a vinyl pool and it makes a difference so do your research
Hey…uh…that’s my pool. It’s a concrete pool with a rubber liner. No other pools were videoed. I appreciate the cynicism as I’m a cynic as well but no trickery here. Just thought it would be a fun useful video for folks looking at pool vacuum options. Take a closer look at the surroundings later in the video.
