- In today's 2 minute garden tip, I show you the perfect citrus tree for container gardening: the Moro Blood Orange! This citrus variety makes growing oranges in containers so easy, anyone can do it! Even people in cold climates can be growing citrus trees like this!
While Moro Blood Oranges are frost tolerant, temperatures below 25°F (-3.9°C) can cause damage if exposed too long. For this reason, growing this citrus variety in a container is recommended if your climate gets colder than 25°F. Blood oranges excel in containers, so this is the perfect fruit tree to grow if growing citrus trees in containers is something you'd like to do.
Blood oranges have a very unique flavor different than the common orange found in grocery stores. They have few seeds, are extremely juicy, are lower in acid than most citrus, and they have hints of berry flavor. This video includes a citrus taste test near the end. This blood orange tree is easy to grow, and it's a great citrus variety to try growing citrus in containers at home.
