@TheMattShea If you’re on PC, there’s also a couple of mods I suggest getting (you get them by following them in the steam workshop for the game, they get automatically installed into the game) MiniMAPI: allows you to make the map bigger by holding tab and improves the map overall External Item Descriptions: Shows what each item and consumable does in the top left corner when you’re in a room with one (if there’s multiple it shows the one that’s closest to you) which is really REALLY helpful in the long run. Enhanced boss bars: Give each boss an icon for the health bar, gives certain bosses custom ones, and gives bosses that usually don’t have a health bar, a health bar. Boss rush wave counter: shows how many waves are left in boss rush (you’ll find out what that is later ;) ) Stats +: makes the stats that the person above mentioned be more detailed (it shows stat multipliers beside it and stuff) And that’s all!
a simple way to make the game not too confusing unless you wanna learn what every item does by memory, check out the "external item descriptions" mod on the workshop, which shows you what every item does Great to see you playing isaac, more matts on the list Edit: You can also turn on some setting (i forgot) in the game to show stats and items you've picked up
Some tips I would like to tell you: -In the shop there's always a shopkeeper, if you blow it up you have a chance of getting coins but also a chance to spawn spiders -Tinted rocks gives you soul hearts(temporary hearts) maybe even bombs, coins, keys. the tinted rocks have an x mark on them and has a slightly lighter color than most of the other rocks -Poops, campfires ,mushrooms and pots can drop stuff too (need a bomb to blow up pots) -If you have a lot of coins to spare but nothing to buy please donate it to the donation machine it will upgrade the shop and unlock other stuff (keep in mind that if you blow up the donation machine for the rest of the run it wont appear again and will drop coins if you already donated) Let me know if I wrote something wrong fellow Isaac players.
Another tip. the left trigger button triggers, you’re active item which is in the top left and to use your cards or pills you use the right shoulder button
its so great to see the other comments helping matt without outright spoiling him, this is quite a nice community. thanks matt and matt's community for being awesome cant wait to see more of the game (he is now part of the isaac pipeline he will never escape)
General Tips: -Tinted rocks will drop extra items like the rock at 6:14 with the X spot on it, that is a tinted rock. -Secret Rooms will not be visible on the map, you need a bomb to blow up a wall to get access to them. They will most likely be where most rooms are bordering them however if any of these bordering rooms have a rock or fire or any other sort of thing blocking the path then it can not be there. It also can't boarder a boss room. -Challange rooms and Boss challange rooms, the rooms with chests or items in it which when you pick them up spawns waves of enemies are challange rooms. You can enter a normal challange room when your health is total to the number of red heart containers you have. You don't need full red health for example if you have two red hearts full and one emtpy, if you have a soul heart you can enter. Boss rooms will have a skull above them instead, you must have one red heart to enter not read hear container. -Beggers are those small guys that you gave items too in the arcade like the one that you gave hearts. You can also find ones that request coins bombs or keys. If you give them enough they will leave and spawn an item. -Devil/Angel rooms are special rooms after you beat the boss on the floor. Devils will first spawn on floor 2 but only if you have taken no red heart damage. Soul hearts and black hearts do not count. If any red heart damage is take the chance for it to appear diminishes drastically. If you want an angel room then you must not take the devil deal and it has a chance to spawn on the next floor as long as you dont take red heart damage. If you enter a devil room but dont take any deals it is 50/50 chance for either to spawn on the next floor. -Options. In the options menu there are some general quality of life improvments that are recommended like extra hud, bullet visability, enable stats and charge bars. -Transformations are a mechanic in this game that when you get a certain group of items will transform you and give you some benfits. You got one in this video called bookworm which you get after you pick up 3 books. I reccomend for any active item, even if you're not going to use it to just pick it up and then you can put it down to count towards the transformation.
Good tips! Just some precision on Devil/Angel room spawn %, every floors, the odds of these specials room will increase by around 33% (it will go to 33% first, 66% second and then 100%) and if you get one, it will reset the rate to 33% again (most of the time it's 50/50 angel or devil, but some things can change that) except in 2nd floor that will be 100% devil if you don't take any red heart damage (Like you mentionned) and the next devil/angel room will always be devil until you get the first devil room to spawn (except with some items). Also, when you take red heart damage for the first time in a floor, it will decrease the devil/angel room chance a lot (about 60% less chances to appear), but only the first time you get hit on any non-boss room, for example you could get hit a second time in a non-boss room and it wouldn't reduce the odds, but if in the whole floor you only took red heart damage in the boss room for the first time, it will decrease by the same amount as it would have decreased in any non-boss rooms, but if you get red heart damage in both normal and boss room, the chance will decrease by a ton, it will become 1%. Keep in mind that sometimes you can take red heart damage and will not decrease the chances, for example the devil beggar, blood donation, sacrifice room spikes, and some others. Also some items can make it way easier to get these rooms. Also really good general tips, I just wanted to precise this a little bit more just in case it looked confusing (even though my description is pretty confusing too, but tried my best).
You can start with a treasure room if you hold R on the keyboard to quick restart and on the controller press both thumb sticks and RB and LB at the same time
Hey Matt! There are some mods i can reccomend you: •External Item Descriptions: To get an external item description, as the name says, on the top left side of the game, it is very useful when you are starting. •Planetarium Chance: When you enable the stats to show up on the left and right side of the screen, this mod will allow you to see the chance you have of finding a special room with unique items in it. (The mod doesn't add the room, it only makes the chance visible). •Boss Rush Wave Counter: If you beat Mom quick enough, a new room will appear with 15 different waves of bosses in exchange for an item. This mod adds the counter to check how many waves you have already completed. These other mods are pretty nice and will definetly make the experience of the game better, they are optional: •TimeMachine[Repentance]: This mod will allow some machines in the game to work faster if you stay touching them, just like the donation machine in the shop does. [REP] Enhanced Boss Bars: This one's a pretty one, and it will make the boss bars customizable and unique by using an external mod which i'll mention next. Mod Config Menu Pure: Make sure to only download the "Pure" one. The other version is outdated. This mod will allow you to control and config every other mod you have downloaded that allows it. That's all i can reccomend you for beggining without overwhelming the starter experience! I'm sure you'll love the game Vanilla as well, but with these few mods, the game won't change a lot, and it will just make the experience a bit more comfortable.
Matt Shay. Just letting you know in the settings. You can turn your hud on which lets you see your stats. And you can also turn another thing on which lets you see the items you have.
I DUCKING LOVE THIS GAME i came to ur channel to watch ur battle cats playlist after i rewatched captainsauces playtrough i did not expect u to be playing binding of isaac
As someone who loves TBOI I'm ecstatic to see you play it, I can't wait to see your reaction to some of the later bosses. Here some good things to keep in mind while playing that will help you get more pickups like keys and health: Always trade a bomb for a bomb as breaking rocks can reveal a crawl space that usually isn't worth looking for otherwise. Tinted rocks are rocks with Xs on them that can spawn in place of a normal rock and you actually found one at 6:12 , they are your best way to get soul hearts (the blue ones) but can drop other pickups and even ,once unlocked, a good item. They are easier to spot on the first floors but do get hard to spot on later ones, you can memorize what the rocks look like for each floor. If you have the bomb it's usually the best use of a bomb. There are secret rooms (like the one you found in the depths) on every floor and are usually worth looking for if you have the bombs. There is one secret room per floor and they can be found in spots with 2 or more connected rooms touching a blank spot on the map. They usually are connected to special rooms (rooms with icons on the map) but won't appear in areas touching a boss room. To narrow down where it is on the floor, look in the rooms surrounding where you think it might be and see if it can be accessed by all connecting rooms. If your confused it becomes a lot easier once you know where to look so I would recommend watching a video. There are also super secret rooms that are (I feel) less useful but can be worth it if you have excess bombs. There is one per floor like secret rooms and they can be found in empty spots not connected to any rooms on the map. The best places to check is the spots next to the boss room that fit this criteria. If it isn't there, it usually is a wild goose chase and only should be sawt after when min-maxing (the act of collecting every possible thing on the floor) a floor for key or money for an item. This is all for this comment (I don't want to overwhelm you with info) but the next episode you post, I'll give more tips. I hope these help, enjoy the engagement points, and can't wait to see you get better and better.
hey matt i'm pretty sure theres a setting you're able to put on which shows your current stats on the side. it's a big help and would recommend enabling
Tips -The Rooms with spikes on them are called curse rooms and if you have an item that gives you flying it won't take away a full heart but instead half a heart -The Room that requires 2 keys to unlock is either a vault room or dice room (just look at the emblem above the door) -Vault rooms are shown with a chest icon on the map and are really a complete gamble when it comes to their payout with it either being really good or bad -Dice rooms are a dice symbol on the map contain a big dice in the middle of the room on the floor with a certain amount of dots ranging from 1 to 6 and depending how many dots are on the dice when you step on it will trigger a certain effect -Treasure Rooms are the rooms with a crown symbol on either the map or door and take one key to open and will give you 1 item from the treasure room item pool -Shops are shown to have a coin symbol on the map and take 1 key to open. Inside the shop there will be a plethora of items costing different types of which you can pay for with coins. Some items can be on sale and be cheaper indicated by the red coloring on the item's price. In the corner there is a donation machine that you can donate up to 999 coins at and the more you donate to the machine the cooler stuff you can get
Not sure if the series will take off, but I’ve never seen or played the binding of Isaac before seeing you play it, but I am enthralled with what you’ve posted so far
Hey matt, I'm glad you've decided to start playing isaac, yhere is one mod that I'd highly recommend called the external item descriptions mod, it tells you what every item does once you walk ner it and is a must have in my book
Ohhh, so happy to see you doing a follow-up video on Repentance after the first one. The contrast between your humour and such a sad, mean, and morbid game is delightful 💀💜
Hey matt, just telling you what the rooms are. The 'spiky rooms' are called curse rooms The rooms with spikes in the middle are called sacrifice rooms The 'golden rooms' are treasure rooms or item rooms. The rooms with the icon of a blue sword are mob challenge rooms, they spawn 3 waves of mobs that are associated with the floor. The rooms with the icon of a red sword are boss challenge rooms and they spawn 2 bosses associated with the floor. Hope this helps😊
Cant wait for him to unlock the tainted characters 🙏 some extra information I’m not sure has been told is that blowing up a keeper gives you extra deal chance and blowing up beggars gives you extra deal chance. Another cool thing is that if you skip the first devil deal then you get angel deal chance. There are also fun transformations when you get 3 of a set items for that transformation! I recommend you search them up and see what they do
I don’t know if anybody had said this yet but a really important thing to know is if you take red hard damage on floor to and so on you will lose devil or Angel room chance. To be precise you will lose 50% outside the boss room and 99% chance wile in the boss room Another thing to know is if you skip the first devil room (not going into the room) the next devil room will always be an Angel room after that it has a chance to be ether devil or angel hope this helps
omg I would LOVE to see you do a series! Binding of Isaac has so much potential for interesting and Challenging runs! Especially if you decide to take on the Games Challenges as a Series
Tip: If you donate a certain amount, the shop will be upgraded giving you a wider variety of items to buy. There are 4 different levels that you can upgrade to
In case you didn't know, backstabber makes it so that you deal WAY more damage when you hit enemies on their back or sides. I recommend you to get the external description mod to help you when you're starting out.
Im really enjoying the pc games rather than mobile ones its like the good old mattshea. Keep it up with the isaac videos they are entertaining to watch and also have you considered replaying the cabin games? Thanks
There are a lot of good settings like showing your items on the right (good for youtube), showing your stats and (slightly) more visible enemy bullets. Also you really don't need to start a new save since people just want to see runs go for longer and not end at mom.
Also if by chance you read this reply. They plan to implement the concept of a mod into the base game that adds item descriptions (in detail) for players.
I can't wait until you get into mods for this game as well down the road, plenty of good ones, even some that you can't go without or just add an absurd amount of new stuff
Whether or not you do them on camera, you should do some challenges as they unlock different things. Some of them like “High Brow” and “Solar System” have amazing unlocks i won’t spoil.
you should install a mod that allows you to see the item effects. ive seen other people use it and its pretty useful. i think its called external item descriptions.
Good soundtrack mods: REROLL YOUR SOUNDTRACK (has support for multiple mods) Sacrilege (adds flash soundtracks and some new ones in the same style) Excelsior (made specifically for Fiend Folio playthroughs)
Mega knowledge drop for matt(shea): Firstly download the external description mod, really helps when you are playing the game at any skill level, secondly enable stats, extra hud, extra bullet visibility and charge bars in the setting, thirdly when you think you are ready look up secret and super secret rooms and most importanly download the specialist dance mod.
Matt, if you're not gonna use mods like external item description, at least use found hud and stat hud. You can turn them on in the options menu. They're really useful to find out how good some thing is.
Matt, I don't know if you're gonna play with mods, but I suggest getting "external item descriptions" it tells you what items do, very useful also correct me if I'm wrong, but it will be added into the base game in the future i believe
Some info to get you better acquainted with the game. 1: When you, or an enemy leaves a trail of slime, or blood, or anything else on the ground as they walk, it's called "creep" 2: If you beat mom in under 20 minutes, you can access the Boss Rush, and if you beat the Womb in under 30 minutes, you can access the Blue Womb, AKA, Hush.
if you dont go into a devil room and dont take any deals with the devil in a run you will be able to get angel rooms with strong items that dont cost health
The item Aries allow you to damage enemies and not get hurt if you run into them after like less than half a second after you start running. P.S. there is this app that has descriptions on everything on the game forgot the name tho
The stats are now a part of the base game in the options enable extra hud, found HUD, charge bars and bullet visibility
This, was just about to comment the same thing. It’s quite useful to see stats, especially when learning what items do.
Thank you! We're learning :D
It also depends on what he’s playing on as that feature is pc exclusive ( unless you get it with repentance)
@@jeremiahrickert3039no it’s not, I’m on switch and it’s there for me
@TheMattShea If you’re on PC, there’s also a couple of mods I suggest getting (you get them by following them in the steam workshop for the game, they get automatically installed into the game)
MiniMAPI: allows you to make the map bigger by holding tab and improves the map overall

Stats +: makes the stats that the person above mentioned be more detailed (it shows stat multipliers beside it and stuff)
And that’s all!
its gonna be so fun watching matt figure things out
I hope he does daily’s
a simple way to make the game not too confusing unless you wanna learn what every item does by memory, check out the "external item descriptions" mod on the workshop, which shows you what every item does
Great to see you playing isaac, more matts on the list
Edit: You can also turn on some setting (i forgot) in the game to show stats and items you've picked up
I second this
also matt if you cant earn achievements with this get repentogon which enables getting achievements with mods
@@TysonFlanagan-wv1yzYou can get achievements with mods if you beat mom 5 times in your save
Btw guys Edmund McMullen announced at some point that he's going to eventually add basically external items description to Isaac.
Some tips I would like to tell you:
-In the shop there's always a shopkeeper, if you blow it up you have a chance of getting coins but also a chance to spawn spiders
-Tinted rocks gives you soul hearts(temporary hearts) maybe even bombs, coins, keys. the tinted rocks have an x mark on them and has a slightly lighter color than most of the other rocks
-Poops, campfires ,mushrooms and pots can drop stuff too (need a bomb to blow up pots)
-If you have a lot of coins to spare but nothing to buy please donate it to the donation machine it will upgrade the shop and unlock other stuff (keep in mind that if you blow up the donation machine for the rest of the run it wont appear again and will drop coins if you already donated)
Let me know if I wrote something wrong fellow Isaac players.
Thanks! Need a bomb to blow up mushrooms too, yeah?
@@TheMattSheayes
There is a chance that mushrooms drop mushroom items.
There are also secret and supersecret rooms.

omg I would LOVE to see you do a series! Binding of Isaac has so much potential for interesting and Challenging runs! Especially if you decide to take on the Games Challenges as a Series
I can’t wait for this to become a series Until then love the videos
You should go into the settings and turn on the thing that lets you see your stats on the left, it's very helpful
This
omg, isaac is my all time favorite game, im so happy to see one of my favorite channels finally on it!!!
Tip: If you donate a certain amount, the shop will be upgraded giving you a wider variety of items to buy. There are 4 different levels that you can upgrade to
Finally another another matt joins us 🫡
Yes bro
@@Taintedcain What are you doing outside of reddit? This doesn't feel right
Hi Matt (not Matt and Matt)
@@mloxard nothing my good man
Love your video, MattShea, and keep up the great work you are awesome bro
you can turn on extra huds in options and you can see mom's foot's shadow before you get stomped
Him not using the book at all just hurt me
Great video! can't wait till you make an April fools video about only Playing this game
In case you didn't know, backstabber makes it so that you deal WAY more damage when you hit enemies on their back or sides. I recommend you to get the external description mod to help you when you're starting out.
A small tip: if you use bombs on the blue fires, theres a chance you might get additional soul hearts.
Broo, this is a certified good content fr fr.
the moment ive been waiting for, a channel that uploads binding of isaac and battle cats
Thought I'd let you know Im excited for more with something a little more meaningful then a simple like. Keep it 😁👍
Also if by chance you read this reply. They plan to implement the concept of a mod into the base game that adds item descriptions (in detail) for players.
I can't believe you beat mom without us
NEED a series on this papa shea
You absolute madman, I support your decision
I can't wait until you get into mods for this game as well down the road, plenty of good ones, even some that you can't go without or just add an absurd amount of new stuff
Whether or not you do them on camera, you should do some challenges as they unlock different things. Some of them like “High Brow” and “Solar System” have amazing unlocks i won’t spoil.
you should install a mod that allows you to see the item effects. ive seen other people use it and its pretty useful. i think its called external item descriptions.
Welcome to the big leagues, Matt.
Good soundtrack mods:
REROLL YOUR SOUNDTRACK (has support for multiple mods)
Sacrilege (adds flash soundtracks and some new ones in the same style)
Excelsior (made specifically for Fiend Folio playthroughs)
16:50 it sounds like he’s yelling at a pet lmfaoooo
Oh boy oh me oh my yippe wowza another possible source of Isaac content to drown myself in, my favorite!
this is my favorite game,
pls make it a series
Glad your playing my fav game.
Keep an eye on the stones! If you see a little „X“ on it then there’s 100% an item! It can be either a bomb, coin or a soul heart
So it could be useful if you bomb those stones!
Hate to be that guy, those are pickups and technically the tainted rocks can only spawn one item (small rock)
Suuuuuper excited for this!!!
a third matt playing isaac LOL welcome to the club
matt really struggled on mom and DIDNT use book of belial ( a damage up for the room )
The one thing that should love in playing isaac, that u every run become more and more advanced
Yes. I want a series. Right. Now.
YAY! Now he's playing my TWO favorite games!
Would love to see u play more isaac i loooooove this game
less goo I'll watch every single video of this series
Matt, if you're not gonna use mods like external item description, at least use found hud and stat hud. You can turn them on in the options menu. They're really useful to find out how good some thing is.
in options you can turn on your hud for stats and items
just a thing, go into settings and enable high visibility bullets, the mini hud and the stats. Boosts the experience 300%
You should do a series!
Thank you for getting this game I'll say this you wouldnt be disapointed
Matt, I don't know if you're gonna play with mods, but I suggest getting "external item descriptions"
it tells you what items do, very useful
also correct me if I'm wrong, but it will be added into the base game in the future i believe
YAY NEW VIDEO!
Good video!
Some info to get you better acquainted with the game.
1: When you, or an enemy leaves a trail of slime, or blood, or anything else on the ground as they walk, it's called "creep"
2: If you beat mom in under 20 minutes, you can access the Boss Rush, and if you beat the Womb in under 30 minutes, you can access the Blue Womb, AKA, Hush.
I cant believe my favorite battle cats player s now playing isaac :3
Please continue!
if you dont go into a devil room and dont take any deals with the devil in a run you will be able to get angel rooms with strong items that dont cost health
If you go into the settings you can show your stats and items on screen while you play
If you beat the boss without losing any red hearts that floor there is a higher chance in getting a devil/angel room
IVE BEEN WANTING HIM TO DO THIS SINCE HE POSTED HIS FIRST ISAAC VIDEO
HE'S BECOMING AN ISAAC RUclipsR !!!!!
PLEASE DOWNLOAD SOME OF THE POPULAR QOL MODS AND FUNNY MODS
The item Aries allow you to damage enemies and not get hurt if you run into them after like less than half a second after you start running. P.S. there is this app that has descriptions on everything on the game forgot the name tho
W this series boutta be crazy
never thought this would ever happen
To make the items less confusing, I really recommend using the game's wiki to learn what they do.
EID is better for youtube videos
Pro tip: Stream this so you get all the info you need in one go lmao
0:18 I wouldn’t mind this
You're so late to this game and I used to love your content when I was younger and this games reviving slowly so pls play this game!!!
