I have a childhood friend that is a Frenchie (they don't consider themselves to be white, there for generations) on St. Thomas who has grow marijuana since at least the mid 1980s on the island and "off island". In 2006 while he was preparing 100 plants for a field on STT, he told me about the most secret place he grew, taking a small boat out to Hans Lollik island off the northeastern part of Magens Bay. He said he toiled taking bags of soil out there, and he planted false pineapples all around to protect his field wearing multiple layers of heavy clothing to power through them. He said he got tired of sinking the small boat in Hull Bay, taking the small motor home and having to get it again to go back to the island to tend to his field.
