Just so everyone knows (I mention it in the video description but people don't always look there), this particular length of the rod (270 cm/9 ft) is no longer for sale on eBay, but it is still on the FTUSA website for $25. Check the video description for the direct link to the exact rod.
I've been using fly rod and reel. This vid convinced me to try Tenkara method because of lower price point. I like to mountain bike and get along some nice creeks and rivers and the ease of transport and set up is inviting. Thanks!
I have followed your other channel since you started it, follow your blog and just found this channel. I love it! I travel in a Honda CRV, rigged for sleeping in and love Tenkara. you make it look fun, but those of us who use Tenkara know it is away more fun that it looks. love your work, keep them coming!
Your reviews are always enjoyable, credible and very fair. That was a neat little stream - I couldn’t help but notice how the brook trout seemed to hang out in quirky little niches, not in the more obvious haunts like the better pools and deep runs.
Just ordered one from FT USA. Site had some maintenance going on but got it with free shipping. Good video....thanks for the heads up. I'll be trying it out in Houghton creek. Will put a video on my channel.
Listen man. RUclips is my only source of social media I allow myself. But.. You're the first RUclipsr who told me to smash that like button, and I did so in response. Love your content
Nice review of this inexpensive rod! Because of your channel I have been inspired to try Tenkara. Just ordered a Dragontail Shadowfire due to arrive this week. I really enjoy your videos and will follow up with a visit to your yarn website. Thanks again for sharing your educational adventures!
Hi Tristan! You look like you're really having fun even if you didn't catch many fish. Again, enjoyed the varied angles. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I always appreciate how fair you are in your reviews and evaluations. See you in the next one!
I’ve been using an 8ft rod from them on and off for the last year in small creeks. I’m nowhere near as experienced as you, but it sure has worked great for me. Tons of trout caught with this rod!
Great video and great review! I'll have to try one of those rods out! The jungle there kind of reminds me of the jungles of Wisconsin where I fish. Haha!
Thanks for the review Tristan. The loose base in the grip would certainly drive me nuts. I wonder if the more ergonomically looking foam grip might be more secure and stable (albeit at a $20 higher price point). I did notice their line keepers look suspiciously like those offered by DRAGONtail (maybe they're common among many suppliers).
Those line keepers have been around since before Dragontail. They were used for traditional fishing rods that various companies in the tenkara space have adopted. I'm not sure if the $45 version of the rod with the different handle would be better. I assume it would be, but I don't know if it would be worth the extra $20.
A very enjoyable video, nice to see that creek, not like anything I would see in England. Also good to know you can buy a rod like that so cheap I have noticed that some Tenkara rods are getting very expensive. Many thanks.
Just went out to Josephine lake to try to catch some golden trout, didn't bring my fly rod but did bring the spinning rod. Ended up tying flies onto the spinning rod to catch fish :D Figured I should go ahead and order one of these now to at least have something fly related for my next outing. And now we wait for it to ship...
If you don't already play Piano or Guitar you should... You have Jimi Hendrix hands... Good Greif Man! LOL You could play Bruce Hornsby on the Piano...
Great video. You convinced me to get in the Tenkara fishing! Bought my first rod as well. Can you pls share line and tippet length and type along with what rod you used in the video🙏? Thank you
I bought the 14 ft 9 in rod last April. I wanted the extra reach while fishing on lakes or ponds. It is a work out and my arm felt it. My muscles started to tire out after awhile. Looking forward to seeing you reviewing the 12 ft rod. GOD Bless you and your family Kenneth
My favorite and most successful rod is a $12 Ace Hardware product with a cheap spinning reel and 6 pound line. I have caught everything from 4 ounce sunfish to 28 inch tiger muskies and can fish flies with a strike indicator as well as a 3/8 ounce spinner and everything in between. Fly fishing is for purists. Spin fishing is for fun.
Awesome little rod ! Beautiful fish and great casting as always ! I'm looking into getting a starter rod because of you ! Do you use a surgeon's knot to tie on your leader ?
Just kinda wondering, 🤔 when I see you fishing with this type of pole or rod , it seems hard to land the fish if your line is longer than the rod , does this rod have a typical rod tip or do you tie the line directly to the end of the rod ? If you had and open eye on the tip could you run the line through it and attach the line at the butt end but the top of the hand grip so when you get a fish you can grip the line and retrieve it in 🤔
The First Time I learned about Tenkara Fishing was from a Little Old Japanese Man that basically explained everything using Body Language and Hand Signals because I didn't Speak Japanese and He couldn't explain using English ...... So I watched and Listened to what he did Say ...... He basically used a 7 Meter Long Rod (21' FEET) but had a 14 Meter Rod (42' Foot Rod ) in Case he Found a High Shoreline but he only used Poppers , Parachute Flies and Fur Body Bugs ..... He explained that it was ZEN FISHING called TEN SHIN KAI and rarely used and type of LONG CASTING METHODS just very short Roll Casts and Dangled the Flies above the Surface unless He was Using a POPPER or Dragging a Fur Body Bug on the Surface
The tenkara rod co rods seem really expensive and I was looking for a cheaper option to start out with, thank you! Edit: I was wondering if there are any other recommendations from y’all for good nets, I’ve been needing one

@@TenkaraAddict As of Sunday evening 7/25 their website appears to not have the 9ft. rod in stock unfortunately. They do have the 9.7 ft. cork handle rod for $42.95. Love your videos Tristan, keep up the great work!

Thanks for this review. There's a foam handled version for $4 more.
Always great to view your videos Another beautiful location! Like your review of rod too.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
You just transmit me your passion and enthousiasm on Tenkara and I’ll try this Springs.
It is one of my favorites, soft maybe 5:5 and I like that and a 6:4 weight rod as well.
Looks and sounds like you are well...excellent...stay well and catch fish...we got 10 rainbows with tenkara up in NC two weeks ago..
Another good review. Love all your input. Did not find this exact rod, at least not at that price.

3 fish, still a nice creek and another great day!
I just looked at their website and the rods offered are now $39.95- 52.95. Still pretty reasonable. Mostly foam grips also. Thanks for the review.
Most of them seem to be sold out now
@@TenkaraAddict , if I end up buying one I would probably go for a Dragon Tail rod that you recommended on a previous review. Thanks.

In the "wild & wooly" back country that you fish , do you ever encounter any bears or rattlesnakes ?? Love your videos ..
Saw a bear while fishing a couple years ago. I never see rattlesnakes while fishing but do see them while hiking.
Another great video. Question about your net. How do you connect it to your person, and is it on you back or side?
I've got some pics and info about that here: tenkaraaddict.com/how-i-attach-my-landing-net-to-my-backpack-tenkara/

I remember all the fish I caught on my ZEBCO 202 real! Too many good bass, trout, catfish and sunfish. The cost does not catch fish you do or don’t!
Hi Tristan. I clicked on the amazon link for the Nissin ONI Ryu Orange Tenkara Level Line and it asks for a size. What size do you use?

What do you think about that net and who makes it? Thanks
Do you have any videos on your line and fly setups?

Do you think a furled line would work with that short rod? If so what length would you recommend?
I'm like 421 come on guys! I just bought the same rod, but I haven't been fishing with it yet
Great video. You speak like Jeremy strong
What furled line are you using?
I don't use furled line. It's a #3.5 level line.
Do you have a Tenkara site similar to your Adventure Knowhow site with maps of all your fishing spots? ;-) That would be worth another subscribe!
Nope, and I won't be making one! No one would tell me good places to fish if they knew I'd just post their spots online.

This is a honest, question not trolling. Is tenkara like a compact and jazzed up cane pole? It looks like a lot of fun.
It is in the sense that there's no reel, but tenkara is fly fishing.
@@TenkaraAddict Thank you!
@@TenkaraAddict Just Subbed, hope to learn more.
These rods are a lot more finesse and accurate to cast. Plus the Kebari fly is reverse hackled. The hackle pulsates in a gradient stream or river.
It's not about the rod price, it's up to your experience
I wish you would show your setup or how you rig the pole up at least.
I still have no idea what a tenkara is.
That could be solved by the simplest and easiest of searches on RUclips or online
