    easier way is to use a tallish bucket and place all the stovetop parts in there at one time. Seal the bucket/plastic garbage can with plastic wrap. i put about 1 inc of ammonia in bucket and leave overnight.

    I just saw your video after looking at numerous others. My question is, does the ammonia cause any discoloration to the grates. Mine are black cast iron. I would like to soak off the baked on grease, but I don't want them to become discolored. Also, have you noticed if they became discolored after turning the burners on.
    Just wondering if there is any chemical reaction to the ammonia and the heat from the burners that would cause them to become discolored. I know the ammonia is rinsed off after cleaning, but I was just wondering. Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Mine didn't discolor at all. Neither have any other grates that I have cleaned. I recommend that you try just 1 part of a grates if you are concerned, but I haven't had any problems with that

    A week? Are you kidding me? A QUICK TIP???
    You just took all the seasoning off that keeps it from rusting.

      Burner grates aren't like cast iron cookware. Just make sure they're dry after cleaning.

    Have you tried using the pumice stone on the grates?

      We have. It works well too, and without the aweful ammonia fumes. The ammonia method has a lot less scrubbing though.... kind of have to pick your poison.

      @CleanFreakGermaphobe  3 года назад +2

      I have tried a steamer. It works too, but if you have the time to to let the grate soak, this is easier.

    Place them Place them in the dishwasher once in wild

    • @aprilharlow778

      If they are enameled then you can put them in the dishwasher, but plain, unenameled cast iron should NEVER, EVER go into the.dishwasher.
      The detergents will cause damage, and if your dishwasher is stainless steel the reaction of the medals can cause corrosion in the dishwasher walls. It can be deceiving, because the corrosion may not show up immediately and by the time you notice it enough time has passed that you won’t associate it with having had the cast iron go through the dishwasher.

    Such bs tried this twice nothing worked yeah sprayed them and all covered in garbage bag it didnt come off 😤...

      Using a garbage bag won’t work the same way. The space inside a garbage bag is too large and the fumes won’t become concentrated enough.
      There are also too many crevices and folds created when you wrap the bag around that will trap many of the fumes, preventing them from actually working on the grate.
      Placing the grate on an appropriately sized tray, filled with a cup or so of ammonia and wrapping tightly with saran wrap limits the space available for the fumes to accumulate thus concentrating them and keeping them in contact with the grate the entire time.
      Try it her way instead of a garbage bag and I bet you’ll see a difference.
