I still hold to it that Kraven should've been the antagonist to Morbius. It makes sense to call in a hunter specialist to take out a strange and unknown murdering creature, purely for the hunter's selfish desire and not to even save people
I don't know who knows this, but Peter Parker's parents being agents was revealed back in 1968 in The Amazing Spiderman Annual #5 issue. There, it was revealed that Richard Parker was indeed a CIA agent as well as Mary Parker. So Peter's parents being government agents isn't new whatsoever. They've been like that for over 50 years now. This was 6 years after Spiderman's first comic book appearance (1962)
It’s something that’s almost never brought up and feels out of left field for what the story normally is, so most people don’t know about it and attribute it to being something new. I don’t think it matters when it happened. I don’t like the concept. Maybe it could be used well, but I’ve never liked it. Peter is more interesting as just a normal guy that got lucky; making his family important is uninteresting and muddles the idea of Peter being an average person outside of his powers and intellect
@DerrickWilson-fm7vc I don't know why people (both storytellers & fans alike) feel the need to "un-normal" a character's background & family. No powerful bloodlines or family legacy thing. The whole point of a character like Peter is that he comes from a normal family & normal life & made his own choice to be Spider-Man. He's an embodiment for most people, for us to relate with. Even if your family were average or less, you can still rise up to be great yourself.
@@Jeddy027 thats true. But people seem to think Peter's parents being CIA agents changes Peter's character. IT DOESN'T. Peter Parker is still a normal man with every day struggles. His parents being CIA agents actually strengthens Peter being normal because they left him in Uncle Ben's and Aunt May's care, TO GIVE HIM A NORMAL LIFE. So yeah sure, his parents are agents, but Peter didn't suddenly get help from the government for it. He didn't suddenly become suave and no longer struggle. His parents being Agents in no way changes who peter is. I know people believe that, and I get why. It just seems like everyone assumes Peter's parents somehow affected Peter's normal life (yes it technically caused some issues in his superhero one) yet he's still Peter. And my point about the CIA agents being revealed in 1968, is that yeah sure everyone hates it now because its been done over and over again, but in 1968 it was still ripe to use. I would also like to iterate that the Peter in question is a different version (since comics like to redo timelines and storylines) of spiderman, one who was a mousy teenager yes, but also had some anger issues. Idk, I just feel the whole thing gets too much hate for something that was revealed 50 YEARS ago. Keep in mind that I'm referring to old school spiderman rather than the one we all came to love, which has had many changes to his story, including his parents' origin story. Also, I hope no one is mad, I'm just trying to have a friendly debate about the comics, so i apologize if my writing comes across differently than my intentions.
I would’ve mostly ignored his backstory because we don’t exactly need as much of it. Establish the character by actions, philosophies he lives by. Make the entire thing a contract competition to kill a target. Kraven wants to prove superiority to the other super villains so he signs up. Vaguely establish that his dad is the reason his mom is dead and he’s been trying to hunt him down to no avail. Kraven finds the target, and plot twist! He learns the target has information on Kraven’s dad and his dad was the one who issued the contract. Now Kraven has to fight against other Spider-Man villains who are after the bounty while Kraven is trying to track his dad using the new lead. Fun fights. A non-powered character proving superiority against others with weapons and tools. May even be a bit obsessive about getting the win. End things off with him looking for the next great hunt and finds out about Spider Man at the end of the movie. Could even set him up as a semi ally who ends up like Smoker if he appears in other movies.
"My grandmother died, and after that I never saw her again" is eerily on par with "she had a hard life, and shortly after that died" from Miami Connection
Ironically I liked Kraven's redemption arc in the 90's cartoon. Always wanted a Good Kraven tracking down Man-Spider movie to cure him story. Sad thus movie has poisoned THAT idea.
They really cancelled a 4DX screening?! Damn, I’ve gone to screenings where I was the only one in there (admittedly, not a 4DX) and had a good time. That’s wild that the theater said “nah, let’s not even bother”.
24:30 The guys talk here about how there must be a contract with Marvel that they can't use Spider-Man in the Sony movies. This is a logical thought because truly why wouldn't you? But it is shockingly, incorrect. Sony had full rights to pull Tom Holland's Spidey in, they just didn't want to. Maybe misled by the first Venom's success in the box office? Very weird.
Obviously Stephen hasn’t seen the still canonical comics where Peter’s parents were double agent spies who worked in secret for the Soviet Red Skull and kept their CIA IDs inside their Red Skull Club IDs. Thus, they were real Americans and came back as evil robot clones in the 90s.
When I saw the trailers, I was convinced Russell Crow's character was actually Kraven and Anthony-Taylor Johnson was Vladimir Kravinoff - The Grim Hunter in the comics but I thought it was going in the direction on Vladimir rebelling to claim the title of Kraven. Apparently one of the early drafts of No Way Home was for Kraven to go and hunt down Tom Holland's Spider-Man in NYC and be a more grounded film
I watched the first 8 minutes, and noticed a continuity error when the initial target was being killed. The weapon was bloody in Kraven's hand before stabbing the guy, then clean as he attacked. And nice glass Jesse.
Really hoping for a Sonic 3 review. Also, it's more of an action movie than just a kids movie. It's also a Kids movie sure, but more for older kids. I mean the whole movie is about death.

OK, there exists a story where a “sinister six” were the protagonists of a Spider-Man-less story. It’s called “The Superior Foes of Spider-Man” by Nick Spencer… and it’s fucking hilarious. It’s a bunch of C-List villains trying to work together and failing at trusting eachother, in a giant Snatch-esque cascade of crazy bullshit. Give it a read if you never have, only like 23 issues long, & it’s totally worth your time.
I think a much better movie would have been if Russel crow was the Original Kraven and Sergi’s whole motivation was to (at first unknowingly, but then purposefully) hunt his father and claim the title.
i think the real issue is because they want to make these SUPERHERO movies they have to try and downplay the fact the characters they're using (except madame web) started as villains, so we lose much of the point of Kraven's character in removing his more villainious aspects to make him a full anti-hero who hunts for justice and not for the thrill of the hunt
Honestly, when they said "this is not a movie about Kraven" and then detailed the parts about the large jungle cat saving his life and granting him super-senses so that he becomes an oddly heroic and environmentally-conscious antihero instead of a traditional villainous portrayal, I wasn't expecting the comparison to Beastmaster; I was expecting a comparison to the Halle Berry version of Catwoman.
The 28 Years Later commercial featured the poem “boots” by Rudyard Kipling read by Taylor Holmes. It was a great and creepy choice for the trailer as the reader slowly amps up his emotions as he reaches the end, making it feel as someone is succumbing to madness.
I'm with Lani, in regards to Madame Web. I also found it boring and not funny bad as I had hoped. Jesse's relationship with it is what I was hoping to get as well ☹️
I half and half on it, but that might be because I watched Megamind vs the doom syndicate and found it to be immensely worse than Madame Web. And arguably the worst superhero movie of this year.
You know, one thing I always questioned about the whole "Sony's live action Spider-Man movies without Spider-Man" verse: Why not have Black Cat then? Like if they were trying to build their own universe, why not bring her to the big screen & build it around her? Like what Iron Man was to the MCU. Plus, we still haven't had a proper live action Black Cat. The closest was her small appearance in ASM2 when she was played by Jyn Erso (I'm blanking on the actress actual name). Then we recently found out Sony could have use Spidey the whole time, just didn't for some reason. Were they worried about dealing with MCU confusion or wanted to do their own thing outside the MCU brand?
would've been better having lani as kraven he'd fit the role of a mcu kraven. really speaks of how much a dumb waste the sony villain movies are(alongside extremely stupid acquiring series/companies when you clearly don't know how to use them.) when they just now found out spider-man could've been included in them which i'm so glad they didn't realize earlier.
Kraven. One of the bigger bads in the Marvel Universe. Knowing for just hunting for sport and challenge and having a good ol time with it. Perfect character to introduce into the Venom Verse as a Late Antagonist, because maybe the Authority want Venom down and don't know how. Maybe Kraven just got wind of him and is rallied by the challenge. Someone, who can be fun as an antagonist for One movie. No. They had to alternate him, give him his own freaking movie, because we "need" all this bwackstory and stuff and bam. They fricked it up. 11:43 I mean... Villains don't always need their own movies. Actually I'd say, they technally never need one. Imagine Thanos having his own movie instead of telling just the important parts through other movies. Thanos worked, not just because he was more complex, but because he was also sprinkled in from time to time, built up and had revealing moments where it mattered.
The part that made everyone in my screening laugh: Kraven calls Calypso to tell her they're coming from her. She looks down to her work's lobby several floors below and says something like "They don't look like they should be here". She's quite a distance from them. It is five men in suits. Every other man in the building is wearing a suit.
it's so fucking funny how like, immediately after this film came out and the sony-verse ended, Disney just said "yeah we NEVER forbade them from using Spider-Man, at any point. They could've included him at any time, idk why they didn't."
As a kid, I would certainly agree that Venom works best as a foil to Spidey, as none of his '90s solo outings were as good as when he were allowed to play off of Spidey. Nowadays, I would say that, while his origins should be tied to Spidey, I would also be more open to focusing on the eldritch aspects of Cates' run, the mindbending, cosmic and timey-whimey aspects of Ewing's run or the militaristic super-heroics of Remender's run (of course, the emotionally charged moments of vulnerability from the hero and overlapping themes of family and morality that all three runs share is absolutely the most important part). These days, Venom has no shortage of good, yet tonaly varied solo runs to use as a launching point, and the modern comics have been far more beneficial to his growth as a character than Spidey's own runs have been. Still, Spidey's got to be there for the origin, that I'll always agree on.
Just proving tfs did Kraven better than the actual fucking movie

I think a much better movie would have been if Russel crow was the Original Kraven and Sergi’s whole motivation was to (at first unknowingly, but then purposefully) hunt his father and claim the title.
Lani is easily the best(written, at least) Kraven.
Even more than Marvel's Spider-Man 2?
i think the real issue is because they want to make these SUPERHERO movies they have to try and downplay the fact the characters they're using (except madame web) started as villains, so we lose much of the point of Kraven's character in removing his more villainious aspects to make him a full anti-hero who hunts for justice and not for the thrill of the hunt
7:00 that one fall guy quote from Ryan Gosling TO Aaron Taylor-Johnson: “dude, you need carbs! Your brain needs fuel!!!”
Always imagined Kraven movie as Predator (either 1 or 2) just with Kraven in place of the alien, and coming out the winner.
The 28 Years Later commercial featured the poem “boots” by Rudyard Kipling read by Taylor Holmes.
It was a great and creepy choice for the trailer as the reader slowly amps up his emotions as he reaches the end, making it feel as someone is succumbing to madness.
53:36 that was the backstory of Cat-Man-Dude from The Tick (Amazon)
56:16 oh god. SONY thinks making Mar-ville is a good idea!?
I'm with Lani, in regards to Madame Web. I also found it boring and not funny bad as I had hoped.
Jesse's relationship with it is what I was hoping to get as well ☹️
I half and half on it, but that might be because I watched Megamind vs the doom syndicate and found it to be immensely worse than Madame Web. And arguably the worst superhero movie of this year.
Moral of the story, just play Spiderman 2
I’ll say, out of all the sony spiderman movies, this one is by far the funniest
Disney: Fine , I'll do it myself..
Sony:
I mean...
We need a bad movie reaction series with Jesse.
I love how collectively 90% of people reviewing are like “we dont give a f about spoilers because don’t see this movie” lol
This character sounds a lot more like Catman than Kraven.
I’m looking forward to watching Sonic The Hedgehog 3 this week than Kraven The Hunter
The part that made everyone in my screening laugh: Kraven calls Calypso to tell her they're coming from her. She looks down to her work's lobby several floors below and says something like "They don't look like they should be here". She's quite a distance from them. It is five men in suits. Every other man in the building is wearing a suit.
Im so sorry for you Lani you were soooo hyped about this movie seeing your X videos could trll your heart was way more into it then the movie makers.
it's so fucking funny how like, immediately after this film came out and the sony-verse ended, Disney just said "yeah we NEVER forbade them from using Spider-Man, at any point. They could've included him at any time, idk why they didn't."
Holy crap Lani I hope that table gets reinforced at some point because it's so concerningly wobbly.
All i can say is, good thing Aaron Taylor-Johnson is doing 28 Years Later next year which looks So much better than this film.
Would not be surprised if he was made to do Kraven in order to be in 28 Years Later.
Havent seen failure of this magnitude since The Mummy(2017)
Good job Sony.
So Lani looks REALLY good lately damn lmao I dig the Jesus aesthetic
