    This is great content! I've been playing guitar for couple of years and i feel like i want to learn writing some own riffs. This kind of stuff is perfect for me.

    Cool video. I also agree 💯 with what you said at the end about focussing on just one scale idea. When i first started 10 years, i thought i needed to learn every single bit of theory there was. I actually neglected the fun of the instrument! But once i stripped it all back and just worked on my pentatonic minor, i started noticing improvements. Learning small chunks inside out is better than learning loads of things a tiny bit i think.

      Absolutely! It can feel really daunting trying to learn everything. Totally agree, getting really proficient at small chunks seems to help make more progress and like you said the fun is really the most important part!

    Love the octave concept. Was one of the first things I started to do when writing my own riffs.
    Forgot about the 4, 5 and 7 on the A string
    Could have also mentioned going horizontal with the scale diatonically

    I’m a drummer and was always interested in learning the guitar (I play bass as well) so my guitarist from my church gifted me the exact guitar your holding in your hands in this video. 7 string variant. Definitely blessed and will be learning from your videos! Thank you, sir!

    love the videos man, could you do one explaining how to use the minor scale in an "economy of motion" practice riff? I love your explanations, and watched some good vids describing and showing was to practice economy of motion but im really interested in how youd show it off. Either way, great stuff man! def gonna have me checking back for more theory and practice ideas!

    Can I apply all these skills in standard tuning? I play mostly 80's Hair Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal and Thrash Metal style guitar.

    • @anthonybattistamusic
      @anthonybattistamusic  Месяц назад +1

      @@metal1mark73 absolutely! You can just move that same shape up to the 6th string (low E string) and it’s still the minor scale. If you keep it on the 5th fret of the E string it’s A minor. And you can move that shape around to change the key 🤘🏻

    Good stuff! I've been learning the minor scale and its different modes. I hae the first 5 down sofar. But I'm not really sure how to use them together well. A lot of riffs and solos dont stay in 1 modes location, it will be several put together. so im not sure when to switch strings or positions when I can hit the same not in different places. Could be a good future video idea? Also, I want to get into using the different modes as the base, like Phrygian and Lydian. Nik Nocturnal had a cool video on the different mode sounds, and the Lydian one sounds so amazing. But I cant figture out how to actually get that sound.

    • @anthonybattistamusic
      @anthonybattistamusic  Месяц назад +1

      I'll definitely have more videos on those concepts coming! And Nik's video is great! I'll definitely be doing a video on the Lydian mode, it's one of my favorites! 🤘

    TLDR; theory doesn’t “box you in” you just haven’t practice it until you don’t really need to think about it.
    Just a little info as far as how it’s worked out for me: practice all the positions of the minor scale and learn to play all of the positions as one giant position. Once you get so familiar with it and the triads within it eventually you won’t think much about it. From there you will intintionally break the rules playing wrong notes and chords where it sounds great. This is the point where you become proficient and theory is headed properly as a way to analyze and break something down you already wrote.
    For example: I will commonly start in a minor scale and move between Hungarian minor and harmonic minor in my accents. I will also borrow chords from different key signatures like Bmin instead of Bdim. I’m not thinking about what key I’m borrowing from I’m just playing something that sounds good and then I can understand it after with the theory.
    The reason people feel boxed in by theory is because they don’t practice it until it’s more subconscious.
