Baby Tapir Calf Born at Point Defiance Zoo

Exciting news! 💓 We’re happy to announce that first-time mom Yuna gave birth to an endangered Malayan tapir calf on Friday, July 12 - and it’s a boy! 💙 The little fuzzy calf is the first-ever born at the Zoo in our 114-year-history. Mom and baby are both doing well and bonding behind-the-scenes. This little one’s birth represents a milestone in an effort to save this endangered species from extinction. Yes everyone from RUclips I also known animals for my entire life throughout the years when I was a kid and, I been to the zoo's and green meadows petting farm sometimes. But obviously as I would say that I've never seen Tapirs like those before because, these animal's species are very rare and hard to discover but besides, I've only seen them in the Xbox One game called: Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection. And in that game, there we're 4 species of Tapir that only belonged in the Mini Exhibit Tropical Lawn. And there are pretty, unique animals too you know, even I wished I'll able to see one

Yes, they’re fricking adorable - but don’t be fooled! Tapirs are extremely strong & protective. A few years ago, a keeper carelessly got between a mother tapir & her baby. The mom attacked to pre-emptively protect her young. She ripped the keeper’s arm off & - if I remember correctly - the keeper bled out & died before help arrived. I don’t think that was the first time a tapir has killed a human being, either. Lesson? Respect even the ‘cutest’, ‘cuddliest’ animals & never forget that new moms can be dangerous when protecting their young.
