A really interesting contrast...Sid's early 50's beautiful suburban home in this commuters skit, and Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners early 50s, Brooklyn simple tiny spartan walk-up apartment...and yet both shows , heralded as smash hits of the golden age of television...
Well, there was the 23rd street apartment on The Hickenloopers, but you're right, even that was a lot nicer than the Kramdens' place. Obviously, the Hickenloopers and the Victors were beneficiaries of the post-war prosperity, and Ralph and Alice were not! --kjh
I got to people's houses and there aren't curtains: there are blackout curtains or closed shades so they can watch shows on huge TV screens. The chairs are beige, the rugs are beige, the people's brains are beige....Look at how wonderful the contemporary style homes of those days were. Sculpted Danish wood: colors and plays of texture. Comfort and creativity. And people did something else -= they conversed! You remember conversation?...oh, I'm sorry, it's just so hard to forget how great it was.
simply simple. short story: a friend at work had a household warming party I spilled red wine on there rugg. I didn't hear the last of my mistake as long as I knew the couple. stain wouldn't come out for years
Very talented actors!
