Honestly on point. Just getting back into hockey after playing my whole childhood. Been 8 years and after my first game woah was I rusty on the skating and stick handling (while moving really) aspects. I couldn’t even get to where I KNEW I needed to be to make plays bc of it. My one kneecap now will be getting ice time to truly practice. Great video, wish I had RUclips as resource when I was a kid. Would’ve went a long way

Don’t give up. You’re already head of rounds of people that wish they were where you’re already at

I didn't start skating until I was in my 30's and really wish I had started younger. Falling as a full-grown adult sucks. I don't bounce anymore.

I did power skating as a kid. I was very fast skater which helped me play on some of the rep teams. As I've gotten older, I've slowed down which has been frustrating. And specifically for anyone who has lower back issues or tight glutes, etc, it's been bugging me for 10 years. I just found something the other day, you're going to laugh when you hear it, but they referred to it as dead butt syndrome. LOL. I'm not kidding. But if you search that in RUclips and find some exercises and stretches to help, it has been a game changer. Only done it a couple times now and the difference is night and day.

Thanks for the vid.. I've been helping my son.. and thought I had the wrong order of things.. So many of my kids team have a good shot but can't keep up to our son.. he's an excellent skater.. and it's the first thing I worked on.. in fact.. he wanted to shoot more and I focused him on skating first.. We're now working on stick handling and shooting.. he's having a hard time getting a strong wrist shot..

Now that he got the skating down he can start focusing on practicing his shot more

@@ahadvising8 I find that sometimes he's down after a game because he hasn't scored when some players with better shooting skills have. So I started thinking I had it in the wrong order, because, scoring really motivates them. However, those other kids may not have much incentive to learn to skate better if they're already scoring without strong skating.

I was the same way as a kid! One of the best skaters, high endurance but had a weak shot. I will say I always had the coaches respect and they had no problem putting me out there anytime even without a shot all the up until the high school level where my bad shot really showed. Worked on it all year and by the end of the year coaches said I had the best snipe goal of the season! Hope he got his shot down better now :D

I would have hoped that more detail around each area rather than the obvious ones 😕Great video though. Would love more detail in the next one (like specifics).

Yes very important to stick handle with your eyes closed. I haven't got to that level yet. I start with stick handling weak hand looking down 2 minutes then take a break. Then I use my dominant hand 2 minutes while looking then both hands while looking. Then I do this again for 3 minutes left hand stick handling without looking. Take a break then stick handle with my control hand only 3 minutes without looking. Then stick handle both hands 1st on my weak side 3 minutes then my strong side stick handling 3 minutes then stick handle 3 minutes in front of me without looking. Then afterwards for 1 minute practice other drills while looking using my weak hand stick handling then use my strong. Hand 1 minute while looking. Then both hands I do this with drills. After I finish I do these drills again stick handle with weak hand then stick handle with strong hand then both hands. I do these drills 1st by looking while stick handling drills using weak hand then strong hand then both. After I do stick handling drills without looking. Yes this will take an hour plus to do but worth it.
