Hello folks l was Andover born and bred but now living in Australia and l absolutely love your videos. They bring back many wonderful memories. I worked at Andover Junction as a porter in 1955 and my brother who still lives in Andover was the Head Shunter. Keep up with the great videos.
The Churnet Valley Railway South of Kingsley & Froghall is built on the course of the old Caldon Canal. Now we've got a group who wants to reopen that line and a group who wants to reopen the Canal!
Cheers Henry. We did four in this style, we stopped however as it took a lot of effort from a good few people. Subsequently we could only do around one per month. Much prefer having a weekly output now.
I finally got round watching this episode and as i'm typing this i'm still laughing (in a good way) at this show, I love the part at 1:12 which had me laughing in tears, but this was an great video and I cannot wait to see more, keep up the good work :) and I've also subscribed
Sim0nTrains Hi Simon. Very kind words, thank you. We are currently working on the next Video in this series which should be ready in a few weeks. There will be a couple of others "bonus videos" in the interim. Thanks again. 👍👍
O dear Paul.. I nearly wet mee pants. I aint laughed so much since I grew up.... This should be on TV. Even Charlie Chaplin could not do better. Brilliant..Just Brilliant.
Great video, hope you keep making more. Few quick suggestions, could you go into a bit more detail, say at 3min 15sec, why was there more northbound traffic then southbound traffic? Could the map at around 2 min 45 sec be played right at the start - gives a good idea where abouts is being talked about, being from up north I have no idea where Andover or Redrbirdge are. I know its partly personal preference and the quick jumpy cutty style works well where you go through the stations, I think it's done a little over the top in the second just before the map is shown with the name of the canal. Here it isn't add anything and I find it quite distracting. At 4 min 10 sec, what did GWR do to get the bill rejected? 4 min 45 sec, why did work grind to a standstill? 7 min 30 sec (and afterwards), why did traffic decrease? This is sounding overly negative and its defiantly still a great video overall, hope to see more soon.
Hi Alex. Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciated. There are certainly some comments that we will take on board, especially the "location" aspect. In the main its a balance of getting the main story out with a few addition bits in, whilst trying to a) keep it entertaining and fun and b) keep the attention of the viewer. Thanks again for taking the time to write feedback, very much appreciated.
More freight and goods came 'up the line' from Southampton Docks to Andover and the villages than passed back down the line. The canal and railway allowed the transportation of common items such as Stone and Iron Ore as well as Livestock.
I feel I shouldn't admit to this, but I'm quite enjoying these, if learning had been this fun at school perhaps Jenny Rubery would have seen so many lustful gazes from me !!
There is a lot of information missing but in the main we are trying to capture the balance between a brief history and keeping peoples attention. The subject of its nickname drew up about three different answers during our research from the obvious to the obscure. Either didn't work in a comic sense so were omitted form the sketch.

Haha... Oops. I'm not sure which is more costly! I guess the line.
I like the way the story was told, very different from the usual!
