- The response to Sony's pricing of the PlayStation 5 Pro is less than ideal (to put it nicely). While rumors ran rampant over the mid-gen console for months, with many hoping it would lead to the arrival of next-gen gaming, it's more of a luxury device, and that's before factoring in the additional costs for a disc drive and vertical stand.
While the hardware reveal wasn't awful, the lack of any real jump in the CPU has drawn some criticism. Above all, it fuels arguments regarding Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 and how it won't run in 60 frames per second on the console. Leave aside that we haven't seen any extensive gameplay for the title, there's no indication that this is the case.
Let's dive deeper into the argument about GTA 6 not running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro and why it's a little overblown.

Digital foundry tested a jailbreaked PS5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 was running in 60fps. If there are no leaps in terms of NPC and traffic density, ai improvements, physics why shouldn't it run in 60fps? GTA 5 runs at 1440p 60fps and RT. If they keep the CPU taxing assets to a smiliar level it should be possible...but I'm no expert that's just my 2cents what could be.
Hogwarts Legacy was running at 30fps in the P5P showcase. And this guy is telling me GTA6 will be running at 60 fps, lol.

Being realistic about hardware capabilities isn’t really ‘biting the curb’ (if this is what you mean). Sony (and consoles in general) focusing on visuals is a decades old trend. People forget the Super Nintendo was a 60 fps machine. The PS1 and PS2 were largely 60 fps machines (the PS2 launched with 21 out if 26 titles running at 60). 60 fps doesn’t equal new. But we see it even today, those that even champion 60 fps complain when a game isn’t close enough to 4K or ‘doesn’t look next gen’. People want what is essentially budget hardware (and on top of it the PS5 and Pro CPU was mid range at best half a decade ago) to run at top end PC specs with no compromise. The average casual player will riot if GTA 6 looks like a last gen game, but hits 60 fps (60 fps being really expensive to run). Most people will prefer 60 when offered, but they are unrealistic in expectations, and demand high end visuals and resolutions at the same time. Given the casual audience really only cares about visuals and the performance minded players also care about visuals apparantly, it’s no wonder Sony focuses on visuals again. We can demand 60 fps all we want, it won’t change the hardware capabilities and GTA has always been a CPU intensive franchise. But it is relevant to keep expectations in check as if anyone is buying a Pro thinking this will net them GTA 6 at 60, there’s a good chance it won’t.

It was Digital Foundry that said that, and they are some of the smartest heads on RUclips (which is otherwise rare). Thats how we pretty much know what the Switch 2 can do for over a year. I'd rather listen to them than to you lol.

True... but how likely is the chance of the ps5 PRO being able to pull off 60 fps? I don't know if people are willing to shell out $800 in today's economy PLUS the $70 game. That's a hard sell, at this point you HAVE to guarantee 60 fps to guarantee sales.

1080p upscaled to 4K with PSSR and at least 1 mode where the framerate is *unlocked and can at least stay above 48fps on PS5 Pro and at least people with a 120hz display with VRR would have *60fps. So yeah, it’s possible. We don’t even know how large the world will be. They can only make them so large. What if it’s not as big as GTA5? There’s tons of things to consider. One thing is for damn sure though, Rockstar NEVER releases these games at 60fps. Then again they were releasing games on pretty crappy hardware back then compared to what is available.
If GTAVI was coming out for PC, we would be having a different conversation entirely.
The only reason I'd have a 1% chance of buying the pro would be if it guaranteed 60fps with either Ray tracing or native 4k. At this point, if Nintendo's console is comparable to a ps4 pro and portable, my ps5 is gonna start collecting dust fast.

To add insult to injury he just said the switch is portable, both a PS5 and a gaming pc will be stuck in your home. The only "consoles" that have an excuse for such a price are the portable PCs that are being released. Steam Deck and ROG Ally the later being a full on PC running windows 11, meaning you can install emulators and play basically any game ever made. Being portable they justify the low framerate... hell external GPUs are a thing now, once you get home you can dock the thing and play higher resolutions and framerates. If you really are a "hardcore" gamer, which if you're still buying consoles you are clearly not one. 60 fps minimum or gtfo.

GTA6 won’t be 60fps until PS6. It is likely CPU limited, so it would need a newer, more powerful CPU.
If GTA 6 is actually going to hit anything near 60fps, it will have Gta 4-at-medium-settings render distances.

Two very good sources say NO or 50/50. GTA 6 will be heavy on simulation so CPU is not enough to pull 60fps in such demanding title. So i agree its unlikey 60fps will be met, it has to run on Xbox Series S which i dont know how it will do lol. 30fps 99% guaranteed on launch.

Also 4k 60 ? Hardly any current gen game runs st 4k 60 on console and that's true for the pro same with 4k 30. It's upscaled. Why do people always forget to say that. It's not actually 4k. Saying it like it's actually 4k when it's not is false marketing. And even Sony took steps during the reveal to have small disclaimers saying that its using upscaling.

I don't think their console sales would be so good if it runs on a mere 30-40 FPS. People with enough money to buy PS5Pro would mostly have a good PC and wait for PC port to have a better experience.
Given that GTA 6 will likely have a lot of NPCs and more happening in the world, it's reasonable to expect the game to run at 30fps. On the base console, it would probably render internally between 720p and 1080p, then upscale to 1440p. For the Pro model, being around 45% more powerful, it would likely run at an internal resolution between 867p and 1301p, upscaled to 1440p or 4K, still at 30fps.
The only way the game could achieve 40fps in a performance mode is if Rockstar reduces the load on the CPU. This would likely involve cutting back on NPCs, cars, foliage, draw distance, and other world details to maintain a consistent 40fps. Attempting to run the game at 60fps would probably result in constant drops, hovering around 40-50fps in outdoor areas, with stable 60fps achievable only in less demanding indoor environments.

I mean, it wasn't worth it even before DF came out and said this game is unlikely to run at 60fps on the Pro. The other unnecessary issues, like lack of a disk drive or even a STAND without separate purchases as examples, don't need to be issues. They're just ripping people off because of these things.
Oh, and it's not going to just be $700 technically. Not accounting for the sales tax from retail purchases, ALL of the things that you would want to have alongside the Pro (that should be there to begin with) itself would cost over $900 after taxes. Fuck that.

The only reason they’re doing 30fps is so that they can rerelease it with 60fps and charge for it and people will buy it. We know Rockstar 🤡
What needs to be focused on is that Rockstar are moving mountains to improve the input latency and responsiveness of player character movement while still maintaining a 33ms frame time budget. Their inclusion of Euphoria has led to fantastically realistic animations that feel a little too unresponsive to input. They're remedying this through a focus on improving Euphoria's transitions between states. It'll still look weighty ans dynamic and emergent but won't feel like you're controlling the model a half second behind whatever it's currently doing. In every single Rockstar Euphoria game you can ragdoll yourself by tapping Circle or "B" immediately after jumping. Never heard anyone mention it but it perfectly showcases how their animation system isn't reliant on precanned animation blending. It's so dynamic it's staggering.
Theres no excuse to not have a performance mode on any games in this day and age. I'd happily play at 1080p so long as I hit a smooth frame rate.
Copium is sad here guys. Any pc worth at most $300 more will be able to run the game at 60 with med-high settings. The fact they wont let console do this makes it immediately not worth $700.
console 700 + stand 30 + disc drive 80 + stick drift controllers 75 a piece (need to change them almost annually) + online multiplayer 80 a year. If this gen lasts for 4 more years it will cost you more than a better pc

Have you been oblivious to the fact that you lack knowledge on this topic and are simply speaking because you have access to information via your cellphone? In reality, the PS5 initially excelled in cross-gen games, but when it comes to next-gen games, Xbox surpasses it with higher resolution and more stable frame rates. This is largely due to Xbox's focus on high-performance consoles, whereas the Xbox Series S holds it back. If you examine the recent releases this year, you'll notice Xbox consistently outperforms PS5 in terms of resolution and performance.
I believe Xbox series X is the strongest console, but it’s being held back by
A. Xbox making bad games /and or buying a bunch of studios with nothing to show for it
B. Developers having to develop for both Xbox’s pretty much separately as they made a pretty bad decision to build the s as the weakest console
C. Just bad decision making. Few exclusives, and screwed leadership up the food chain.
PlayStation knows what they’re good at and has been doing that, and with Xbox self destructing they pretty much control the market.
So in short, I’m like 98% sure series X is the current strongest console until the ps5 pro, but Sony has easier hardware to work with and know how to use it

Im more worried about what the side activities , characters ,the world , gun / driving mechanics will be like that. Rockstar is quiet. Another thing we should all be able to agree on is that this was all known before hand. Sony knew there would be no games and they knew the PS5 was underpowered. They knew from the PS4 Pro that everyone would buy a PS5 Pro regardless of any real improvements. But everyone likes to defend the corporations so it's just more beating around the bush. Sony and Take-Two might prefer digital versions due to higher profit margins and control over sales. A PS5 Pro Digital could encourage gamers to buy digital copies of GTA 6, aligning with these interests. Take-Two could easily sell over a 100 million copies and make billions; getting just 10% more of $70 per copy could generate an additional hundred million.

Seeing this reveal for the ps5 pro solidified my plans to spend more than $800 on a gaming PC. I have a series x AND a ps5. I'll buy the new xbox if it has steam access, ps6 is a big question mark.

Frames, a few leaves in the background, more NPCs walking around - I don't care about any of that. I just want to play the game. I got my PS5 for that reason alone. I use it to play the heavy-duty games in performance mode, while my PC is for retro games and medium to low-demanding online titles.

The PS5 pro simply is asking for too much and delivering too little to justify the price and also the fact that it doesn't have a disc tray is disgusting as that's a newer tactic in the industry to stop people from sharing game's and movies/ TV show's with friends and family... Let's not let the industry normalize these bad business practices vote with your wallet and they will stop the BS.
Also people do remember that gta 5 was pa3 and 360 game right? And took until the PS5 and Xbox series to get 60 fps. We don't even have 60fps for red dead 2 on console. Y'all really think Rockstar isn't getting us 60 on GTA 6. Or at least not a stable 60. They will probably give us an unlocked mode that can't hit 60.

To anyone thinking of blowing close to $1000 for this junk: you can instead buy an entire gaming prebuilt with an RTX 3070 or 4060/Ti for the same price (if not a little cheaper,) and you'll be able to pretty much play any game you want at 60fps at 1440p, and you have the option to upgrade to better components later on...plus it can do computer things and not just play games (hell, Sony wont even give you a browser anymore because they're terrified of people jailbreaking their own property.) I also recommend never listening to any of these gaming media channels when they're specifically trying to shill for a product that has generally negative public perception by specifically telling you that whatever the public's criticism is, is "OVERBLOWN" in all caps.

Just build a pc. Can get 100fps on a $1200 build. RUclips has tons of how to videos. Why people still spend $700 on console that can't hit 60fps on a game in this time of day is crazy. Playstation should offer a motherboard upgrade with a new cpu and graphics you can change out in the same case. That's where they'll make their money and keep client's. Only way to keep up with the pc game builders.

Sure it's not worth it unless ya havent bought a console and if they havent my recommendation just buy a ps5 not a ps5 pro.
