I love this band and I love this video. It feels like you're actually apart of it...like you're in that world. And I love how Davey looks so serious in this. This video is absolutely amazing!
i love Coldplay and AFI Coldplay is like the classic phenomenon of music itself and AFI is so expressive in feelings and its music is to die for i love them
The video is very deep and complex and requires some knowledge of the band and its individuals to understand what it means. Just because you dont understand it doesnt mean it sucks. Its actually one of the best video's imagery wise that ive ever seen.
Beautiful. If liking videos like this, that are gorgeous, have personal meaning, and that carry me to somewhere far beyond myself, makes me "emo," then I am proud to be one. I appreciate beauty when I see it.
We're assholes. 15 year old Davey died 18 years ago...a phenomenon we call growing up and/or maturing. The band writes meaningful music now, its been getting more and more meaningful since Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes. Im glad that the band stuck up for themselves and changed their style to what they grew to like instead of playing only what their current fans liked. That's how good bands evolve. Sellouts are an entirely different category.
This song (I believe) is about letting those close to you into your metaphoric "personal space" DECEMBERUNDERGROUND is Davey's name for where and when he goes when he wants to be away from it all. I think this forest in the video is DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, and this song is about him reluctantly letting his closest friends in, and they all perish because of it. But the way he smiles at the end symbolizes that he's not unhappy that he did it.
I grew up listening to these guys and have been able to see them in concert a while back. But I do agree that they have done a little bit of changing with the times. And I don't know about you guys but Jade Def. looks like the lead guitarist from Dokkens video "breaking the chains". If you dont believe me look it up on here an check out scene 0:12. i bet you will see the resplendence!
i love this song :D i repley it like 10000000000 times a day... lol! dude, the first time i heard this was from my ENGLISH TEACHER! he said it was great poetry....
SO many people criticize that bands like Rise Against, AFI, and Offspring have 'sold out' and that their more recent albums are too 'mainstream'. Really, bands mature and evolve. If they continued sounding like their 'old stuff' it would eventually get old and repetitive. Offspring's most recent album is their best in almost ten years, and Rise Against and AFI continue to be complete and utter GENIUSES musically, vocally and lyrically.
since u guys have been asking what does this video mean here u go: The band is in a forest and one by one die off, leaving Havok as the only remaining member of the band, chasing after a mysterious woman (Christina Petrovic), who reveals herself as evil, not enticing as Havok once believed. Suddenly she appears behind him, kisses him and they both drown under the thin ice.
Not to mention also Montley crue and Twisted Sister. Those bands wore make-up back in the day. It was the style and if you notice, it's making a comeback with rock bands. Come on people! Vince Neil once said in an interview, 'We may wear make-up, but that doesn't mean that we still can't kick your ass!'
I dont think it has anything to do with bisexuality.
Davey Havok and Jade Puget respectively. Look them up, this band is worth time...the messages hidden deep within their songs can only be heard if you listen to them repeatedly. Seriously, this is one of their most popular, and best songs...but there's soo much more great AFI to be found.
holy cow has this band changed. haven't listened to them since Black Sails on the Sunset. hmm not exactly my bag, but cool to see they are still around.
Btw, AFI is most closely related to alternative music, horror punk, and a few styles of goth. They were considered purely horror punk/goth until the release of their December Underground. Because of this their genre mainly consists of alternative. So the next time calls them emo, educate them (and emocore music isn't bad at all).
Hispanic, British? Theyre from California. Ukiah I believe. Davey uses a lot of spanish in his newer songs because of a tour in S America after Black Sails in the Sunset was released. Sing the Sorrow and December Underground both have spanish on various tracks.
you're probably right. I always assumed he said it somewhere. Even if he is (or isn't). Does it really matter? AFI has been putting out awesome tunes for what? 20+ years? Fuck it. He's got a voice, and it's used well.
i think it was just part of the video that Davey was suppost to do. like he was trying to reach his hand out to girl but because he was drowning and died he couldnt move his hand anymore.
I've never heard someone explain it like that, I like that. If a band stays the same just for the fans that's selling out. I hope you dont mind if i start using that ^-^
they actually started in '91 and reformed in '93 after a show at the Phoenix Theater. Also....just a fyi (and I'm not saying this to be rude, just to let you know) emo started in the 80's.
The response to block out or fight against qualities in other beings affects our opinion of them. So for one to say we "Disapprove" of you but don't necessarily hate you is a contradiction in itself. Why? Because there still dwells animosity. We don't hate you, but we don't approve of you either so therefore we are not about to embrace you. So we'll keep you at some .. lets just say "relative" distance and on neutral ground - as basically a cut above hostile.
I'll be the first to comment after 6 years...
god bless

We're assholes.

makes me think of him.
rest in peace, derek.
we miss you bro
They are pretty freaking awesome for a bunch of thirty year olds. xD There music still rocks, it been 18 years, and they still kick ass.

This video is unreal it's the best music video i have ever seen.
You know, this honestly wasn't my favorite AFI cd, but it was good, and this song is AMAZING!
Beautiful video!
Read the lines in the mirror through the lipstick trace: Por Siempre. I love this song!

A most extraordinary song by a most extraordinary band.
Who cares about how they looked then and how they look now. This song is and always will be a good song and they are and always will be a good band.
omg...I luff these guys with my whole heart. They're just amazing
this song is so awesome i cant get it out of my head
the scenery is so pretty!
love this song XD
I liked their songs but this is the song and video that made me really like AFI.
Agreed! It would be so awesome to meet him.
This is a really pretty video. :0 Now I wish it was winter. :3 As for the song, it's my favourite by them next to Summer Shudder! Excellent! ;)
my only complaint about this song is that it ends too soon. this is one of those songs you kind of want to go on longer.
this song is the best!!!! i have always loved AFI! always will too!
i love the whole concept of Nixes here.
at least, im taking her to be a Nix..
but whatever, it's so surreal and makes the song even more lovely
:16 made me shudder.
Jade looked amazing with that gaze.
Oh man.
Hunter's goggles remind me of one of the reasons why i fell in love with AFI.
Not to mention also Montley crue and Twisted Sister. Those bands wore make-up back in the day. It was the style and if you notice, it's making a comeback with rock bands. Come on people! Great song, great video. Kinda wish they'd do one for "The Interview" though. :)
ohemgeee!!!
The AFI concert was AWESOME!!! I love them!!!
that jade guy is sweet with the guitar. cool how he moves in the snowstorm

I think Davey's beautiful! And his voice . . . *sighs* This is my favorite song by them! WOO! I LOVE AFI!

i love afi and the song especially when they say por siempre (for ever in spanish) it's so cool!!!
For reasons unknown to me, I love this song. This video is crazy, though.
Everything about him is breathtaking!
holy cow has this band changed. haven't listened to them since Black Sails on the Sunset.
hmm not exactly my bag, but cool to see they are still around.

They never broke up and are working on a new album so be happy.

i didn't like this song at first but after i listened to it a few times i loved it.
At first I didn't like AFI but now I think they are great. Deffinetly like this song. I wish it woukld snow like that here.
Finaly,, now i know someone who understands! Thank You!
This comment right here is the reason why AFI should have never gone mainstream.
Everyone calm down and just listen to how good this song is, I hate arguing comments. This song is amazing and you know it. ^^
Look at the Kroq "Almost Christmas" Concert. It was the last time they performed. That's what his hair looks like now.
that's very beautiful
I love the end... dark but touching
:)
this video is unreal its just.......
WOW.
The art of drowning and sing the sorrow is NOT their older stuff. In fact, it's pretty damn recent.
they are coming out with one they were recording in december
AFI RULES!!!!!...i´m waiting for a new album!!
THANK YOU.
For understanding what most of these incoherent toddlers cant comprehend whatsoever.
Hispanic, British? Theyre from California. Ukiah I believe. Davey uses a lot of spanish in his newer songs because of a tour in S America after Black Sails in the Sunset was released. Sing the Sorrow and December Underground both have spanish on various tracks.
I hope this isn't removed I really love this song.
I think AFI deserves more air time out here in the East Bay. I always root for the underdog- especially when they're this fucking AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Клип профессионален,песня-супер, новый альбом неплохой

they actually started in '91 and reformed in '93 after a show at the Phoenix Theater. Also....just a fyi (and I'm not saying this to be rude, just to let you know) emo started in the 80's.
Thank you much!
