Because of Till's rather emotional performance here, I just now reread the lyrics to this song. They're incredibly depressing. Not disturbing, like...well, the majority of Rammstein's songs, haha. Just sad--or rather, pessimistic. And complex. It gives me even greater respect for Till's poetry.
Am I the only one who is bothered by people who love Rammstein but don't bother to find out what the lyrics mean?

Really weird that they're not playing it in their lives anymore. I find in this song some sad and enigmatic poetry, kinda atypical... but beautiful. One of my favorites.

Alter Mann could have probably been played the whole Sehnsucht tour, or at least the most of the Sehnsucht tour. The only reason it was not played again after 1997 was that the crowd was not really into it(Said in an Interview with Paul). That's also why they don't play Amour or Dalai Lama. Other reasons that Amour and Dalai Lama weren't played again was that Amour was really hard for Till to sing and it was too slow. Their manager went to a concert of them in 2004 and after that told that everybody was taking a piss during Dalai Lama(Exaggeration) and that it was too slow

Eh, well in my opinion, necrophilia, incest, cannibalism, etc. are rather disturbing. But I do like how Till treats those subjects in his lyrics--neither criticizing nor defending. It's a very personal, psychological depiction, and one not many people would have the guts, personal insight, or intelligence to pull off.
Oh yeah.. when I see this and how Till sings, how everyone performs... It's just magical, even with shitty quality you can see and feel the emotions behind words..

@meganinsteiner22 I've read some of the poems from it, and thought they were interesting. He has a very odd, and as you said, pessimistic outlook on life that is particularly fascinating to me, as I'm pretty optimistic. It definitely made me look at things differently. But I don't have the book because it's far too expensive to order in the US (at least it was last I checked). :(
