@@irhdaily: Durga Pujo 'is' celebrated - but mostly by the 'Bengali' community of India (and the Bengali diaspora abroad... even in the US and Canada) - while all people participate... across religions. The period is observed totally differently (and privately) by other communities (who are Hindus) in India and they call it "Navaratra" which lasts for nine days and is an exclusively vegetarian affair.
That's not how we celebrate Durga Pujo. Food (even non-vegetarian), culture, and community events are an integral part of this 6 Day festival of Bengalis. It's often customary to eat "Luchi" on the day of "Ashtami", and "Mangsho" (Chevon) on the day of "Navami". Many Pandals also serve a vegetarian "Bhog" (a typical Pujo platter of food) every day around lunchtime during the festivals for the four days in the middle... as the first day is dedicated to adding weapons to the idols, and the last day is for the submersion.
Kolkata's Durga Pujo generates an annual revenue of US$ 5 Billion as of 2023. It takes months to construct the structures and the idols and after the festival, everything is dismantled and reconstructed with whole themes the next year. Even in small cities, Pandals having a budget of US$ 5 Million isn't that big a deal, TBH.
"Durga" is the name of the deity. The mother goddess.
"Puja" means prayer/praise/worship/ritual.
"Pandal" is the temporary bamboo tent/installation where the idol of Durga is established and worshiped for multiple days before it is submerged in the water at the end.
Also, you are right. There is indeed another festival where an idol of a deity is established in a pandal, worshiped and then submerged in water at the end. That one is dedicated to Lord Ganapati aka Lord Ganesha. The festival is known as Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav.
Durga Puja is actually part of Navaratri festival, which literally translates to "Nava" (Nine) and "Ratri" (Night).
So it is the festival where the divine primordial feminine energy is worshiped over 9 days/nights.
And today (24th Oct) is Dussehra aka Vijayadashami, wherein "Dus" or "Dashami" means ten or 10th day. So after 9 days of Navaratri we celebrate the victory of the mother goddess on the 10th day.
Hope this clears things a tad bit!
Very nice 👌,,Love from Bengal,West Bengal,India

Durga Puja is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a matter of pride for the Indians, the Bengalis, to be precise.Although the festival is celebrated all over India (mostly West Bengal, Odisha, Assam ), the epicentre of this celebration is Kolkata ,the capital of WB and one of the metro cities in India.May Ma Durga bless us all 🙏
Also, in Bangladesh, UK, USA, Canada, etc.
No country can beat India in festivals it's just not celebration it's our worship rituals and culture ❤

Sharodia Durgatsav and Navaratri purely different......you are watching Sharodia Durgatsav which have different Rituals and values...... Bengali and Maithili peoples only celebrates Sharodia Durgatsav..... sorry Assam and Odisha Durga pujas are different
Navaratri and Durga Pujo is very very different in nature and the manner in which it's observed by other parts of India vis a vis Bengalis.
Before British rule Bengal (where people speak Bengali language)was a large state, after 1947 Britishers divided Bengal in two parts. One West Bengal, a state of India and other is Bangladesh, now a country. Kolkata ( Calcutta during British rule) is the biggest city of West Bengal.
Why you are giving the wrong information. Actually it was 1947 when Britishers divided india into two parts one you know republic of india and another is pakistan but pakistan had two part one was west pakistan ( current pakistan) and other was east pakistan (current bangladesh) but west pakistanis only used east pakistan resources and not treated them well. I remember two events one MD. Ali Jinnah declared the there would be only one language that is Urdu. This decision of Jinnah hurt majority of Bengali speaking people of East Pakistan. 2nd in prime minister's election the candidate of East Pakistan won the election but west Pakistanis never wanted a Bengali person to rule over them so Pakistan's army imprisoned the sheikh mujeeb ur rehman the winning candidate. His followers started a freedom movement in East Pakistan. It was 1971 when India entered into this and helped East Bengal with our army to form a new country from east Pakistan to Bangladesh. In 1971 war 93000 soldiers surrendered to Indian army. Then sheikh mujeeb ur rehman became prime minister of bangladesh. For info his daughter sheikh haseena is current pm of bangladesh but rehman was assasinated by x person. And that x person lives a luxury life in Canada. That's why india called canada safe haven for terrorist. Even Bangladesh govt. Doesn't like Canadian govt.
We love Canadians but Canadian govt..... I don't hate Canadian govt. But laugh at them.
West Bengal and Bangladesh share their boundary. Both are Bengali speaking but do you know why west Bengal is known as West Bengal even after being on the eastern side. The reason I've explained above. Before 1971 Bangladesh was east Pakistan or east Bengal. So remaining part was west bengal which is among 28 states of india. And whole bangal was a very big region. Before 1911 kolkata was capital of india and British east india company started ruling over india from bengal. That time out freedom movement was going on . So 1905 they divided Bengal. But the division was annulled in 1911 and Delhi was announced a new capital of India.

this festival is basically a celebration of divine female power, we celebrate how strong and beautiful women are. Ma Durga represents a perfect feminine power and ideal mother, wife, friend, sister and more and that's why in western and central India we also call her Ma sakti ( mother of power ) 😇 may ma Durga bless you, defiantly India has not just festivals BUT MEGA FESTIVALS
Puja is not the name of goddess , it's the way of worshipping ❤
You guys should react best pandals of this year. And in Bengali there's sentence 'baro mase tero parbon' means in 12 months we have 13 festivals actually more than that . Actually we bengalis we enjoy in every festival over religion. Because rituals and religion is different and person to person but enjoying in festival for everyone. Because during Eid , different pujas and Christmas everyone comes out on the streets and have some fun. We have the highest crowd gathering during yearly festival Of Durga Puja and Christmas. I'm talking about Bengali and state of west Bengal don't know if it's the same or different in other states.
Hi Guys it's Durga Puja here now in KOLKATA ... ITS Festive Time and we send you al the love and best wishes and blessings from Goddess Durga.
Durga Pujo is also the largest festival and it's more like a carnival where people go out on the streets and celebrate. It's not thousands of people but millions of people on the streets of BENGAL ( KOLKATA) tht come out and celebrate Durga Puja for 4 days.
Durga Puja is also inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
It's Huge Come down next year and see the Hospitality and love from Bengal.❤❤❤

Puja means Worship :) Durga is the name of the deity/goddess. Durga puja happens twice a year one in spring time another in Fall/Autumn (called Shradhya Durga puja. Shradh means Autumn/Fall season). It's celebrated all over India at the end of Shradh season of Indian calendar over nine-nights (nav-rarti), but in West Bengal it's most prominent as in Bengal/east India region worship of Shakti (loosely female form of divine energy) is traditionally strong.
Warship? Or Worship?

I'm from Kolkata, and Durga Puja is an emotion for us Bengalis. It is a United Nations recognised Heritage Festival and is a grandiose spectacle beyond imagination to behold. Kolkata is a must visit during this time for a lifetime experience. 😊 Next year land at Kolkata on 7th. October and stay till 11th. October to see this festival. However, the immersion carnival is held a few days later to the last day and another spectacle by itself. 😊
Its 9 day's festival
Navratri means nine nights
That's Ganesh chaturthi
The one with big idols
Durga Pujo and Navaratri are different. We Bengalis don't observe Navarati at all. In fact on the day of "Navami", it's pretty much customary for us to eat Chevon, and Luchi the day before.
Give a reaction on best top10 pandel of durga puja in 2023.❤😊🙏
The other festival you are talking about is Ganapati Festival’.
Hey IRH folks. Just letting yall know there is going to be a Durga Pujo celebration in Burnaby from 27th to 29th October by Utsab at the Shiv Mandir (Bonsor Ave temple). It is open to all. Feel free to go and explore. Love from Surrey.

Atithi Devo Bhavah, please come to Kolkata during the Durga Pujas!!!
You all are welcome.
Durga Puja is the one and only festival from S-E Asia to get a UNESCO recognition under intangible heritage-culture sector.
Here, in this festival, we worship womanhood, motherhood, peace and spirituality.
So good to see you covering this in here- as a Bengali, I feel proud.
This is the Indian way, we have regional celebrations- rather each state has its own celebration, it's vast- cnt be listed.
And yes, we only hear a lot about India-Pakistan division but Bangladesh was also taken out of us. Bengali people constitute the 3rd largest ethnic group in the world.
Ullash!!!

And yes every single pandle is temporary; people started to make the big pandal maximum 3 months before the festival...and every pandal have their own theme ( only the big organizations around west bengal like 4000 ) and after the festival they untied the pandals...and started think new theme for next year's puja ❤️❤️

Bengal was previously a state of India...later bengal was partitioned into west Bengal state and east Bengal (name Bangladesh,a country)..on the basis of religion... indian West Bengal is hindu dominated and Bangladesh is Muslim dominated....but language is same
West Bengal government spends 3.5 billion dollars for this festival in West Bengal not out side the state😅 for 4 days 3.5 billion😅
10:35 bengal is in india guys....the video of unesco was talking about west bengal. Indian bengalis are the people who are from the indian state of west bengal. Though Bangladeshis are also regarded as bengalis...I think thats why you got confused. The thing is Bangladesh was part of undivided India, so when India got divided....undivided Bengal was partitioned and the east side became the country bangladesh and the west side became the indian state west bengal.
Currently we hv 9 days Navratri +1Dashera and hhmmm we r busy till 15 November guyes😂.❤
Durga puja has now become a 10 days festival in West Bengal starting from Mahalaya to Dassehra/ Dashamee

there are nearly 26 major similar festivals across India like durga puja in Odisha, Ganpati in Mumbai, Biswakarma, Lakmi Puja in Odisha, Krishan in Mathura and so on...
Bengal doesn't celebrate the festival in the Indian way because in India this is the most beautiful part that every states have their own culture and different vibes. If you go from a particular state to another state then you'll get a felling like you've entered in a new country, where basically the language and culture changes from the previous one.
India is diverse and this is the most beautiful thing about it.
Appreciate your curiocity but videos were not a good choice
Bangladeshis tried to burn this down!

Around West Bengal region it is known as Durga Puja . And on the other regions it is known as Navratri. Nav-9 ratri-nights so it's a 9 day long festival and last four days celebration is very crowded. 10th day we burst/burn Ravan(a demon defeated by lord ram exclusie in ramayana) to commemorate god's Victory over evil. And in hindu culture after death of our relatives we clean up our home with holy water(Ganga river water) and paint our houses. Since ravan was a very learned bramhan so after his death we do so. And in modern days it is known as preparation of another big festival Diwali. Which is celebrated to commemorate lord ram's return to Ayodhya from srilanka with his wife sita and brother laxman after defeating ravan. When lord ram came back residents of ayodhya celebrated his return by lightening diya/candle. Hence in diwali we light diyas and use crackers to celebrate Diwali. Hope you get a concise explanation..

If you want to enjoy Durga Puja, you've to come to West Bengal
Before Delhi, Kolkata used to be undivided India's capital...
Read Lalitha Sahasranama and Soundarya Lahiri to know about Mother Durga.

In 2024, Durga Puja will be from 9th October till 13th October. Most welcome in Kolkata, if you approach by air, land at Netaji International airport. If you arrive by train then aim for Howrah Station or Sealdah Station whichever, both serves Kolkata.
Best of Luck.
You don't have any idea how massive & how diverse this land called India is.
In food habits, linguistics, dressings, music, cultural & sports activities etc.
Ravan dahan (Delhi,North India), Vijayadashmi (South India), dussehra (Mysore), in North India and South India.
Maa Durga resembles feminine power of the universe. When the demon named Mahishasur was undefeated by the every masculine power of the universe then they pray and help her to defeat the evil and demonic power of Mahisasur. According to hindu puran(literature)The Mahisasur once prayed and got blessing from Bramha; the God of creation; that God, Man and any living and non living creature in the universe can not defeat him anyway but he forgot to mention about women or feminine power of the universe as he never counted them as powerful existence. When he started to torture everyone in the universe by taking advantage of that blessing including God; they prayed to the feminine power of the universe Maa(Goddess mother) Mohamaya for defeating and killing of Mahisasur(A demon disguising in buffalo). Every God helped her by giving different weapons and that goddess mother fought a war against that demon all alone and finally killed him and ended the dark age of the universe. In this way, she opens the door of prosperity, peace and goodness of the universe. That's why other God and Goddess are worshiped along with her. Basically, Maa Durga is the symbol of every feminine power of the universe who may looks soft and delicate but holds the utmost power in her which any masculine existence in the universe can ever hold. Maa Durga symbolizes the feminine power of the universe which is its backbone. We show our respect to every woman by worshiping that feminine power of the universe and now it is celebrated as a mega festival of West Bengal to make everyone feel the importance of woman in a Man's life and the lesson to those who ever disrespect a woman.
