Wonderful idea to do a light run beforehand. I walk to the run in Buckingham and suffer the whole way around for 38mins! I'm definitely giving this a go on Saturday. I loved you ran with her. Great video!
Love that you saw it Mhairi - I saw the news about parkrun and dogs - no doubt this will be a huge blow to many. I wish you all the best with your running and thank you for watching
@@thisisjogon it was great to get some footage from our last parkrun. We regularly compete in canicross races and used parkrun as a time trial during training
@@anyexpat I've heard this from others, with as little to back it up as you give. What are "most breeds"? Pretty much all sporting dogs, working dogs and hounds are literally bred to be active and runners. One of the biggest health and behavioural issues they have is not ENOUGH running. Even terriers can easily work up to 5k, again probably not getting enough exercise in general. Only toy dogs are obviously unsuitable, but I doubt anyone tries running a 5km with a chihuahua. Do you really think all the health advice around exercise that is true for humans suddenly is not true for dogs? Even though most breeds have been bred specifically for their exercise capabilities? I think the only real question is how a fat unhealthy dog can be safely built up to doing a norm easy distance like a 5km. Any healthy dog should be able to do a 5km (and I include toys here - they are not healthy dogs, and are riddled with genetics and physiological issues that contribute to them being unsuitable for running)
If you think about it, 20min 5k is actually slower than her Seville Marathon time pace. So she was running at a pace slower than her marathon pace for the 5K. Its crazy what these elites can do.
It’s absolutely mad isn’t it. This is something I was aware of when I made the video, but ended up forgetting to include that fact - it just makes it so much more ridiculous Thank you for watching
When I was 13 or 14 we had someone who had run for Australia come to our local footy club. Her marathon pace was quicker than all but 1 of us could run a half lap of the oval lol.
Anyone who is elite at any sport makes it look effortless. Phily was gliding along like a catamaran skimming over the waves. I am a big guy from weights and yes I can run 5K but I am more like a battleship ploughing through the sea, it's a massive effort for big guys to run distance. Well done Sir!
Yeah running as you get heavier sucks haha. At 20y/o and about 66kg running was effortless, could not do it for months and still be not far off pace. Now at 35y/o and pushing 90kg I sound like an elephant making steam train noises 😂
She really is elite. And I guess the real insight is her positive attitude and happy nature. I'm not trying to be dismissive of her determination and skill. But it strikes me that it just makes it easier if you can hold onto that kind of spirit while you run. That's what struck me.
Really great insight, and probably one of the most observant comments made on this video so far. I agree, I think attitude is undervalued. Thank you for watching Harry
That’s me in the blue raincoat! I had a friend in my year group come up to me today and I ask if I did Parkrun in the past and I said yes. Had no idea about this video but was so funny to watch back, I remember refusing to let you two overtake! Great running though and a great video :)
That pace was almost 30s slower than her marathon pace, so barely above her aerobic threshold at best (beginning of zone 3) and she ran like that for less than 20min. From a marathon training perspective, that parkrun could have qualified as warm-up before an interval session so it's no wonder her watch (which intimately knows her zones 😏) mistook that race for a trash session 😂
Your point about longer runs in the warmup is so true. I get to parkrun by train and the nearest train station to my local parkrun is about a mile away. I recently started running the mile as part of my warmup and I noticed a surprisingly big difference. I've knocked about 35 seconds off my course PB there.
Love it Ryan, say hello to Australia from me. It’s the running weather you likely don’t miss however… Have a great one and all the best with your training. Harry

These videos are better than a lot of the stuff on Netflix! Fantastic video! I was really anticipating how the run would go alongside Phily and in those conditions.Kudos to the young fella in the raincoat, I'd be well overheated in that! PS. Great tip about the warm up run. The two Parkrun PBs I've run in the last two weeks (22.00 then 21.19) have come after a slow pace warm up of 2km and I'm sure it's no coincidence.
Thank you Tom, yes the warm up is well worth consideration as it can have a profound effect on a race effort. No idea how someone runs that in a raincoat. Cheers for watching and supporting my work. All the best, Harry

Trying to get my running mojo back after 3 months with post covid fatigue. 5km below 30 min is my first target, then hopefully back up to 50min 10km. but at 58, getting there will be a struggle. Still this video has got me out of bed and off to the gym so cheers for that!!
I'm 57 Richard and a long way from completing a 5 km thanks to long term lung damage from covid. However your sub 30 minute goal has inspired me to get back out there and aim for a sub 45. Thanks for the idea, just having a goal is a huge inspiration.
@@bone0944 good on you. I tend to run on running machines at a gym (better for the knees and more control over the speed etc.) I set myself a primary goal and a stretched and double stretched goal - happy to get to the primary, even happier if I get further. I'll then use that goal until I have met it 3 times in a row - then I'll set another goal a bit more difficult. So if you are wanting to run the whole 5km, set a goal (say 2km at a known speed, 2.25km stretch, 2.5km double stretch) - when you can do that then you can either increase the distance before slowing or increase the speed at which you run it.) I like to use the running machine as I have more control over the speed as well - I'll set it at the start and then increase it at fixed intervals - this tends to be good as that first km can be a killer but I find my lungs open up as I run. When I'm feeling happy that I can do the 5km, post covid without needing to slow down, I'll start to increase the distance goals until I can get back to the 10km mark. I have also plotted my progress before in Excel and that way you can see your progress

19:45 - “unproductive”!!! 😂😂😂 You have got to be kidding me!!! When I did my fastest ever at 21:09 I thought on finishing I was actually dying!!! 😂😂😂 I think we’ll be giving that ParkRun a miss. Boggy fields, narrow paths with walkers so struggling to get through and muddy!!! Not for this 48 yr old that’s normally bambi on ice on the mud!!! 😂😂😂 Great video. 👍👍👍
Love this! ❤️ shows a real humbleness, love of running and kind spirit from elite athlete. I'm new to running and absolutely love to see people who run for the joy of it x
ideal warm ups get longer as the race gets shorter in my experience. 500m for marathon, 4k for HM, 5-6k for 10k and 5k. I inadvertently ran a hilly 8k before a parkrun last year and got a massive PB.
A really interesting point Alex, there is definitely a fear of fatigue before a race that can put people off running much. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts
I'm a run director at Green Point parkrun in Cape Town where we run on pavement and brick paving so it was interesting to see the mud and grass. IF you ever want a fast and flat route you should come visit. We recently had Dame Kelly Holmes visit for the 2nd time and she was lovely taking pictures with anyone who asked.
A cracking little parkrun Harry . I’m sure faster times on a firm route . We should sort a Brooklands one out soon . Love how Phily is just skipping along , is poor mortals
Unfortunately Harry & Philly caught us at Reading on a week with still muddy conditions after some downpours. That’s the price you pay for running next to the Thames. Conversely this week just gone, much firmer & we had 65 PBs!!
We have lots of Parkruns in Norfolk - checkout Sheringham Park and Blickling Hall probably the most scenic Parkruns you’ll run. Also Great Yarmouth - one of the hardest.
Excellent fun. My 5k time is 35 minutes. Though I am 67 and I was never a good runner. I've run on trails and parks but never with other people. And thats 40 years now 3 times a week. Running in the rain and light snow is soooo good. Though here in sydney the summer is more like 27 plus degrees.
Love it Kit, thanks for sharing. Wonderful to have you watching in Sydney. Agreed, the snow is awesome (in my most recent video at time of writing, I run across a frozen lake in Switzerland, worth a look) Cheers Kit Harry
Another gem Harry. Given you were running along the Thames I couldn't help wondering what J.K. Jerome (of Three Men in a Boat fame) would have made of parkrun. I think he, George and Harris would have regarded fitting one run in as a must do part of their adventure, and their Garmin data would have been discussed at great length. . as for Phily's "Unproductive": I've just had five in a row. It's depressing.
I've ran/cycled with people before where I was dying and they weren't even breathing it's easily one of the most frustrating things. I've told them to at least pretend to suffer lol
nice to pace with someone, my running partner ditches me in the first mile. lol All good though as I plan to surprise her next race season. I am in Florida so I take May through Oct off of doing races, but still train on the treadmill.
I only liked the bit where you were lapping other Park runners. As a 30 mins 5K runner I am in their situation and felt happy recognising my own kind 😂

Phily made that look easy. I don't know what you were messing about at though, Harry 😂😂👍🏻 Brilliant stuff. Well done both.
She was cruising, I was not. Cheers for watching Mark
Great Job!
Thanks Stella
LOVE these videos!!
Love you commenting Stuart
Thank you for supporting what I make
Harry
Really great content. Subscribed
Welcome aboard Anthony, thank you very much
19:45 - “unproductive”!!! 😂😂😂
You have got to be kidding me!!!
When I did my fastest ever at 21:09 I thought on finishing I was actually dying!!! 😂😂😂
I think we’ll be giving that ParkRun a miss. Boggy fields, narrow paths with walkers so struggling to get through and muddy!!! Not for this 48 yr old that’s normally bambi on ice on the mud!!! 😂😂😂
Great video. 👍👍👍
Tell me about it, what a message to get after.
Thanks very much for watching a JOG ON video it’s appreciated!
Great running, and a great video. Reading is my home parkrun and it can get super muddy. It's a great one though!
We suspected it must get a lot worse as a surface
Love the style of video, keep it up
Cheers James, much appreciated - we're a small channel so it's great for a video to do so well
Well done, great vlog
Thank you James
Love this! ❤️ shows a real humbleness, love of running and kind spirit from elite athlete. I'm new to running and absolutely love to see people who run for the joy of it x
It’s a lot about the joy
"phily wasnt even breathing" LMAO
A smashing run
Very nice! I hope you film Phily running a future race all out.
We may well do Bruce - her channel is worth a look as well
Great! New subscriber…well done Harry. 👏👏👏
Thanks very much
ideal warm ups get longer as the race gets shorter in my experience.
If I ran a 5k warm-up, doubt I would finish the parkrun without walking. Depends on how far you can run.
“Bring your own press officer”. I was LOLing!
A surprisingly good line. Thanks for watching Martin
Phily’s cruising pace!! Good effort Harry 💪💪
She's a machine Christina
@@thisisjogon But she seems like a very nice machine 😊😊
I'm a run director at Green Point parkrun in Cape Town where we run on pavement and brick paving so it was interesting to see the mud and grass. IF you ever want a fast and flat route you should come visit. We recently had Dame Kelly Holmes visit for the 2nd time and she was lovely taking pictures with anyone who asked.
Sounds great Melissa, one day
I hope all goes well at Green Point and wish you all the best with it!
A cracking little parkrun Harry . I’m sure faster times on a firm route . We should sort a Brooklands one out soon . Love how Phily is just skipping along , is poor mortals
She's just jogging whilst I'm trying to survive Jim, thanks for the comment
@@thisisjogon I know how this feels 😂 you’ve seen who I try to run with every Tuesday
Absolutely, thanks for watching
Loving Phily's attitude and presence
She was excellent, and it was great to run together
Wow sub 20 in this weather and terrain? I’m can only do sub 20 if every condition is perfect! Haha. Phily is awesome. Makes it look like a easy run.
It wasn't easy I can tell you!
Thanks very much for the comment and view!
How can you watch this and not subscribe, this was ace!
They say people often need a few videos to become accustomed - really appreciate you subscribing
Agreed, the snow is awesome (in my most recent video at time of writing, I run across a frozen lake in Switzerland, worth a look)
Cheers Kit
Harry
Heck I wish to have this in Malaysia!!!!
One day
There is one in Malaysia.
@@tobyk8125 Where? Thank you very much in advance...
👌 as always
Cheers Sonny
That watch would be in the bin!
Interesting video. 👍
Thank you very much
Another gem Harry.
You can always rely on David Juson for a great comment
Philly wasn’t even breathing. A real superhuman runner
Absolutely John, a pleasure to run with someone so good
Amazing channel .
Amazing comment .
Nice work on grass and in those conditions 👍🌧️
Thanks Lee
Yes Reading!!!!
Represent
I really enjoyed this! Phily is hilarious too.
Thank you for watching
Such a cool video
Cheers
misread this video as parkour and whilst disappointed at the lack of actual multi level jumping, enjoyed it a lot. Kudos to Phily for such restraint.
Amazing comment, perhaps the next video - I took Phily to a parkour event
would love to see what time Phily would do on her own,....we parkrun here in Australia as well.
Likely a mid 16, on track a high 15
Thank you for watching
Good effort in those conditions, Phily's a beast 😎
She really is, thank you for watching
Late to the party but will never forget the weather on that second lap!
It was crazy Will, thanks for watching and welcome to the party 🎉 🎈
I've ran/cycled with people before where I was dying and they weren't even breathing it's easily one of the most frustrating things. I've told them to at least pretend to suffer lol
I know this experience well
Thanks for watching!
_BBC Sports_ needs to give this guy his own show.
As long as they're happy to just constantly hear about the joy of running
nice to pace with someone, my running partner ditches me in the first mile. lol All good though as I plan to surprise her next race season. I am in Florida so I take May through Oct off of doing races, but still train on the treadmill.
Would love to be back in Florida to run - hope all goes well
It’s gone viral, well deserved Harry 👏
Thank you very much
@@thisisjogon it’s about time…your videos are honestly NEXT LEVEL!! 🚀
Love the commentry ... "as the dog's tongue flapped madly about its face"
Thank you Stephen, it's worth all the hours or writing and voice over recording to know it's listened to and appreciated.
All the best,
Harry
yes liking the zany commentary
Phily is AWESOME :D
Absolutely
I only liked the bit where you were lapping other Park runners. As a 30 mins 5K runner I am in their situation and felt happy recognising my own kind 😂
Ha Tony, great to be out there smashing it whatever the pace
Thank you for watching and commenting
