    Now! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this conversation, but I was frustrated by the lack of control I had in it - especially after a lot of (fair and faithful) editing. There was a lot of talking past each other where we could have come to understand each other sooner, which I would put a lot down to me - It was a 30 minute conversation that meandered all over the place.
    I have learnt some lessons about how best to keep control of the conversation (- staying on topic) while keeping it conversational. - ‪@clifgrant‬ does it best!
    I deduce that this fella's strange vegan take comes from a willingness to absolve themselves of the obligation to educate and enlighten others - perhaps subconsciously. - disguised as a "people should be free to find their own way" - without being encouraged? Without being informed of the facts? - and yet he would intervene if he saw a dog being harmed in the street.
    Anyway, I enjoyed the discussion and thought some of it was worth sharing :)
    Thanks for watching!

      I agree with Amber. Very odd, but you handled it very well James.
      We couldn't see his friend's face but it seems like he was listening and learning.
      Why would we want people to stay in the dark about the consequences of their choices?
      You can't actually force anybody to accept your views. You can only educate them and encourage them to make good decisions.

    That guy who says is a Vegan is only saying it to give himself some credibility in the discussion, he is not a Vegan that is obvious by what he is saying. Also he keeps going on about not forcing or insisting people go Vegan, when that is not what the Activist( James Kite and all outreach activists who hold signs up) is doing he is just creating debate on the subject! 🌻🌎✊🏽

    i really appreciate what you do for animals. you were very eloquent in the last video i saw and really on point. If I may, can i offer you a hopefully constructive perspective in terms of the definition of veganism. The reason i would like to offer my perspective is because people like this guy will ask questions about "stepping on ants" or similar and the answers can get very convoluted whereas they are actually very simple and straightforward, so here goes:
    veganism is not about the reduction of harm (thats a utilitarian stance, not a vegan one). if the argument is about the reduction of harm then technically someone could rape a pig in a farrowing crate as long as they are careful and give her a strong enough date rape drug so she doesnt know what happened when she wakes up.
    its about being against the EXPLOITATION (keyword) and USE of animals as objects or resources. Its about changing peoples mentality towards animals and raising their status in society (they are here WITH us not FOR us). Then when the question arises about "stepping on ants" or "where to draw the line" or some kind of "animals suffering in the wild" the answer is very simple: thats outside the scope of veganism. Veganism is an ethical obligation not to use and exploit animals for human benefit (and yes this includes not exploiting insects for honey or silk too.). By stopping exploitation and use of animals you automatically reduce harm as a consequence. and its still virtuous to not step on ants and to help wild animals but thats outside the scope of veganism.
    you kind of touched upon it but felt the argument went more strongly towards reducing harm.

      Oh 100%.... I got lost haha. I said "even in the utilitarian assessment" or something similar which tried to highlight what's significant is not the harm per se - but the commodification - not violating the rights of animals.
      It's frustrating to find that the point was missed and I didn't deliver it as clearly as I would like.
      Thanks for laying it out simply for me! :)

Does he agree in forcing his view on people when it comes to that or is he ok with people making their own personal choice?

    Great work James, you got some really good points across. Even after doing street activism for five & a half years, I'm still very critical of the content of my conversations & how effective they were, even when other activists have heard me & tell me how good it was. There is no school of activism, we just have find our own way & what works best for us. If you haven't already got, maybe a good idea to get Earthling Ed's book 'How to Argue with a Meat Eater (& Win Every Time)'. Also this guy was quite a challenge, very strange views for a 'vegan' lol

    Man -“it’s not an opinion you can force on others”
    Vegan -“If you saw a dog getting kicked in the head..”
    Man -“Oh I’d kill him”

    So what then do you do about those that aren't blind. Having the same information as you, but still chooses to eat meat. I'm one of those very people, from my past experiences most just call me an animal abuser and call it a day. Though a positive is I don't really eat pork anymore, don't much agree with their treatment. I may want farming practices to improve, but my morals don't believe eating meat is wrong. Though like the other chap said, it's my choice to make.

    • @JamesKiteActivism
      @JamesKiteActivism  2 месяца назад

      I would try to connect you to your existing morals and encourage you align them with your actions.
      When you say "eating meat" and "it's my choice" - you're not seeing it from the animals perspective.
      If you wouldn't unnecessarily harm a dog, then why unnecessarily harm any other animal for the sake of a meal.
      It is a choice - so why choose cruelty and death.
      Watch "Land of Hope and Glory" by Earthling Ed for an account of standard UK farming practices.
      Put yourself in the position of the animals - the victims in this scenario and reassess.
      All the best

    • @TheShockedboy
      @TheShockedboy 2 месяца назад

      @JamesKiteActivism I've followed Earthling Ed for 4 years now, along with Joey Carbstrong, and quite a few other vegan content creators. Why I said I have all the same info as you, I started watching to challenge my own views. Though despite a few minor changes, I realized my views are different.
      You use abuse as a comparable, so if I eat a burger how could object to someone kicking a dog for their pleasure. Though my response would be the same if I saw a person kicking a cow. An animal deserves respect no matter if they are livestock, wild, or a pet.
      I do think animal farming practices need to improve, to give animals better lives while in our charge. I eventually plan to raise my own animals in the future, that way I no longer contribute to a problematic system.
