This is a great idea. I've never practiced chord changes without pressing and strumming to get the practice in. Great to learn the mechanics without finger pain. Thank you for that advice.
Hello, im a beginner and he really helped me alot about the a and d chord is it okay if i don't necessarily follow his techinque on how to change chords because i learned my own and i am used to it, Or should we follow what he did exactly
74 year old beginner. Thank you so much for your classes! Made 11 cord changes in one minute drill first time. You are spot on- it was difficult but it is starting to make sense.
I’ve been playing guitar and studying music religiously for three years now and I’m watching through this series to relax and reflect (also it feels nice to max out the modules on your website!). Watching this honestly really makes me happy about my progress, because over the years I think I’ve taken all of the things I’ve gotten good at for granted. I’ve almost forgotten how hard it was to get chords right for the first time, but nowadays everything I do seems so self-evident! It’s an awesome feeling
I am 30, trying to teach myself is difficult. I am so glad I found your videos, I have been putting in an hour of practice every single day. Thank you for all you do!
Wow, thank you so much! Love the way you teach its so easy to listen to you! I'm just starting out playing guitar and I feel you helped me make huge progress just by watching a few of your beginner videos. Well done!!🙌🏼
I struggled with D major chord pretty hard. So i used Dsus2 instead. I used it like a bridge from nothing to chord D major. Now i can play D chord easily
Thank you soooooo much I tried to learn guitar for almost 2 years but I couldn’t change fast between the chords so I gave up but now I can change it and I’m so happy thanks a lot 🙏
Love Justin’s lessons. I keep my guitar on the couch and do lots of quick 5 minute sessions here and there during TV ads or when having a coffee. I’m still doing dud chords here and there though but I suppose this improves in time and the key is to just to keep practising and get the finger tips roughed up more. I watched a program with Eric Clapton and he said that even he does these basic exercises and to never forget the basics.
man you are so generous you are breath taking i really search for someone like you for a while because i don't have many to pay for i private lessons and you know i promise when i have some money i Will sonate as much as i can for you
I'm 12 but I wanted to play an instrement so I started to play my moms old guitar! She never got to practice, starting to take online lessons. Thanks for all of the help! :)
Thank you. 20 year Pro/Am bass player never been serious about learning guitar. Now wanting to , Starting at the beginning hoping not to bring bad habits from my bass playing and learn the basics correctly. Thank you for your style of teaching , It has been 4 sessions and you have NOT shown us a single " impressive riff" Humble honest teaching!!!! , I have never seen any of you playing or teaching previously. And I am impressed Thank you
These lessons are great. Im a 46 year old and never picked up a guitar. Hoping to learn to inspire my 2 young boys to learn. Love how you go into detail on the finger placement, and the pain. Thanks again.
Practicing changes and chord perfect is amazing. Working on finger placement and changes while also worrying about how it sounds was way too much all at once. So glad I got the app for structured homework and tracking chord change progress!
Im struggling with the treble e string badly 😔 its muted from my finger and i cant get into the right position without twisting my arm and wrist in a weird angle. Please help!
This is probably not the right video to ask the question under, but I hope you can answer me anyway.. I keep getting ugly noises between the chord changes.. the chords themselves I do get clean, but when I release/press the new one.. you get this ugly sound. I can't seem to figure out how to avoid it.. sometimes it's more, sometimes less.. but maybe there's a trick for it - or something I can pay attention to.
Is it the sound you get when you're sliding your fingers along the string? If so, try to lift your fingers a little further off so you aren't applying as much force to them. Additionally, better strings will have less string noise
I am really loving your Beginner lessons. Your explanations for 'what' and 'why' are fantastic. You set the right expectations for 'beginner' and 'expert' levels which helps the student see what you want to show them about their journey. Fantastic teaching!
When I'm moving from the D chord to the A chord, I can move my 2nd and 3rd finger together so the change is real fast. But then I'm doing vice versa, I can't move the two fingers together no matter how much I try. I can't put distance between the two fingers enough to move the 3rd finger to the 3rd fret at the same time as moving the 2nd to the first string of fret 2. Any help please? 😭😭
@@JayK108 I think I was stressing too much before lol. I can do it fine now. I just kept working the way I used to, and figured that even if I couldn't move the two fingers together least I could do is make both the fingers move fast so that the change would be quick anyway, even if it wasn't ideal. But somewhere along the line I found myself moving them together XD. Guess it is true, keep practicing without giving up no matter what
john adamson you just gotta practice. I got kind of like a free pass for that one because i had already mastered the g chord on my uke which is the same hand shape
It’s hard at first I found because my fingers had not hardened yet. So I had to push very hard until my fingers hardened up and now I don’t feel like I have to smash down so hard to get a clean sound anymore. Are you having buzz trouble? Check and see if you’re contacting any other strings or the metal frets.
@@stratoman5504 I know the notes are right 🙄 I meant what fingers he uses for each string. The conventional way would be index (D string), middle (G string) and Ring (B string)
This one is preferable because with the normal way your pointer finger is a lot further up the fret so you need to push harder. You can also keep anchor off the pointer better
@@cubesandpi Each to there own I guess. I dont really use anchoring apart from Am to C. I prefer making the shape before I fret anything, I think it sounds cleaner

Keep playing new guys. The finger pain will go away
Can confirm! Played atleast one two hours a week since i bought it a week ago being completely new and no more finger pain! 😄
Hopefully it does!

Quick tip: you can also use your 3rd finger (ring finger) as an anchor while switching between the two chords (A&D)
