It's nice to know there's at least one H-D dealership that "Will" work on the older stuff. Thanks Low Country, and Thanks Doc for showin us FXR owners some love.
I have a 1991 FXRS that I am turning into a sort of FXRP! Not doing the fairing, but the windshield version....don't know if any were sold, but it was available. Terrific Bike it is. Super power to weight ratio!
Hey Doc…I have a 2021 Tri-Glide. I’m working on heat abatement since I live in Arizona. I have an extended warranty through Harley. If I delete the cat, will I void the factory warranty? Thanks.
Hey Doc… I’m curious about something. Why do I seem to hear on several Harley repair forums and social media sites that so many riders with early 2000 Harleys seem to be told repeatedly that dealers won’t work on older Harley bikes… but here you are working on a 1990 FXR. Is it the Motor Company that tells dealerships what they can work on… or do dealerships just randomly decide what they want to work on.
It was great meeting you July 5th when we delivered the flag from Columbia. I have an 86 FXR and I removed the oil filter mount and welded it to the right side down tube to install the oil filter in the later model position. You were saying that you were looking for some new content for videos and I thought of my recent task of changing the stator on my 2012 FLHT. I thought I could remove the stator without removing the inner primary but as you know I was wrong! Have you ever heard of anyone grinding down that lip on the inner primary to make it accessible? Also do you know why it's even there. I always enjoy your videos even when they have nothing to do with anything I have!
Yes I have heard of owners grinding. I have not received an answer why the inner primary changed. My thoughts include the change in mounting the inner primary needed strength……Doc
Hi Doc, thank you for that great tipp because otherwise if someone with a FXR comes into my garage I would use a sledgehammer to cool down my mind 😂. Greetings from overseas Germany Dirty Harry😊
I’m not sure that is compatible and the silicone might attract more grime. There are better products out there. FYI some cable makers believe no lubricant is needed with their Teflon coating….Doc
I have a green flexible product that I can shape into a gutter to get most of the stream of oil. At home, stuff the area below with rags. Some owners like to spend money and relocate the oil filter…..Doc
I cut a piece of cardboard and put it under the filter. Then I punch two holes in the end of the filter, top and bottom, and let it drain before removing the filter.
I'm glad my 92 fxrs has the oil filter up front. I'd be thinking that rear mounted one might suddenly oil slick my rear tyre.
You are going to be sorely missed when you put your wrenches away and go riding full time !
I appreciate that. Hopefully riding we will meet up….Doc
The designer for this one had a sick sense of humor....
Like the old saying “You can’t buy experience “
Thanks Doc for more pearls of wisdom tech tips👏🔧
Great tip Doc. I had a 1984 fxrdg for 30years wish I still had it. What's the trick to keeping oil off the front of my2017 flhx?
I have an 84 |Fxrt it was part of the transmission case no bolt required, but yes my wife has an 87 and it is bolted on, had to do it once.
It's nice to know there's at least one H-D dealership that "Will" work on the older stuff.
Thanks Low Country, and Thanks Doc for showin us FXR owners some love.
Our pleasure!…..Doc
what were they thinking in the beginning design?
Well if you change an oil filter on a Twin Cam or M8 and spill all over the front of the motor🤦♂️……Doc
Wow. Reversing the threads. Makes one wonder what they were passing out at the engineers meeting. Glad you're back with the tech videos!
Thanks 👍….Doc
I had an 88 FXRL , great bike . Sorry I ever sold it !
Thanks Doc for still working on older Harleydavidson. My local dealer would never touch my 1989 FXRS-SP. To bad they might just learn something.
So true. There is a lot to learn but not the time….Doc

Good luck on your project….Doc
wonder why they changed it from right hand thread to left?
Possibly an engineer’s idea to stop it from coming loose. They always come loose🤦♂️….Doc

Don’t they have inspections with exhaust sampling in Arizona?…..Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson No, Arizona does not have inspections.
Gald, I was browsing you tube. Because I didn't get a notification. Take care, Doc.
Gotta love design engineers

I have a video that addresses this issue. The dealers decide because the Factory obsolete parts…..Doc

Just don’t reach for the 12mm😆….Doc
I had a 1990 FXR and found an old offset box wrench in my tool chest that I would use exactly how you described. Sure whish I still had that bike too.
We all wish we had our FXR.
Mine was a 1986 FXRP….Doc
I own a small Harley XG 750, But then also i love to watch ur Tech Tips. And you are always helpful. Love You Doc❤
We thank you for your support….Doc
1958 panheads have a left-hand screw for the idler gear pin in the gearcase. Only in 1958.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge…Doc
always helpful info. And makes me appreciate my 2004 twin cam even more.
Thanks for watching…..Doc
Hey Doc can i use Silicone Spray Lubricant to lube my clutch and throttle cable ? My clutch cable is teflon line cable.
I’m not sure that is compatible and the silicone might attract more grime. There are better products out there. FYI some cable makers believe no lubricant is needed with their Teflon coating….Doc
Reads 1/4 tank always
Doc I thought everyone had a offset wrench like that in their toolbox , I bought a set of Snapon back in the 80’s
Good investment….Doc
You should almost have them paid for by now.😂
God Bless Doc!

I use happy meal boxes cut in half 😂
So when you say right hand thread righty tightly lefty loosey? It's just gets confusing sometimes
You are correct. Righty tighty unless it has left hand threads then it’s lefty tighty…Doc
What is an FXR?
In my opinion one of the best Harley-Davidson models made. FX meaning big motor with small chassis with R rubber mounted motor/trans assembly…Doc
Funny, I have one of the offset box end 1/2 9/16 not used all the time BUT when needed, extremely helpfull
Agree👍….Doc
