I understand fluoride blocks absorption of iodine. Having city water containing fluoride, I did a deep dive into how to filter it out. We now take Lugol's iodine drops in AM coffee and have purchased a fairly spendy water pitcher that does a good job filtering out fluoride (and many other substances we're not keen on drinking.) Thanks for the video!
I hope you are doing the entire Iodine Protocol. Please make sure your coffee is cool to cold because any iodine you put into hot water will sublimate very rapidly. I take my 50 milligrams of Lugol's Iodine in approx. 1/4 cup of water. I enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee later.

I use nattokinase instead. A recent study showed that 10800fu daily was superior to any statins. I take 6000fu 30 minutes b4 breakfast and dinner. No side effects that I have noticed.
Thank you for addressing this subject. I DO buy iodized salt for cooking and table. My family has resided in a portion of the “goiter belt” (the Blue Ridge mountains) since colonial times. I am in my 70’s. My grandmother died of a goiter before they discovered the cause and need for iodine in the diet (1930’s?). It is my understanding seafood can provide the iodine as well. Of course they had only fresh fish in the mountains, which they had plenty of. I already knew about the lack of iodine in purchased salty foods. I didn’t know about the best storage of salt, but have always kept supplies in a dark cabinet. I will change to a sealed storage solution. It is my understanding that people who eat saltwater fish, etc, get ample iodine, hence the boundaries of the goiter belt explained. Thanks so much for spreading the word on iodine!!
I’ve been taking 8 drops (50mg) of Lugol’s 5% since April. I’m not as cold and feel good! I am now also starting a low dose of NP Thyroid for hypothyroid (30mg). It’s been an issue for years, that I never dealt with. Not horrible, but, enough to need addressing. Ketovore/Carnivore 5+ years. Hubs and I feel great in our 60s! Much better now than when we were younger. 😊 Thanks for having Dr David Brownstein on your channel previously. I read his books on Thyroid and also Iodine. That’s where I found out I needed that much. My doc is testing my serum and urine iodine loading. I’m good!👍🏻
I always choose idolised salt. I have a friend who is a dietician (in Australia) who was trying to tell me that Himalayan Rock salt was the best It's amazing to me how trends even apply to salt!
In the UK the popular brand of Iodized Salt - Cerebos - uses Potassium Iodate which does not sublimate - although the RDI set by the NHS is only 140μg - they do seem to recommend the bare minimum for everything though. They do recommend plenty of Dairy, Eggs, Fish as the best way to get Iodine. Thanks for the Info Doc.
I've been using Redmonds natural mineral crushed salts for horses. 25 pound replacement bag... It's very tasty. A bit chunky but I got over that pretty quickly. All the cramping I experienced had gone. At least 2 tsp a day. Kept dark and closed. I was searching for salt while listening to these Docs talk about salt. One commenter said she used it in her shaker...all I needed to read. Yum....
@@karenreaves3650 Unless Redmonds changed pricing, the human salt is 2X the price of the Horse Replacement Salt. I say replacement because it's in a bag and a bit cheaper than the same 25lb in a bucket. I had a bucket.
I'm on the 3rd month of taking 10 drops of 2% Lugols and my energy levels are significantly improved. Felt it the same day when I incresed from 7 to 10 drops.I'm on a mainly carnivore diet. Dont forget to prepare the body for iodine there's a protocol but it's simply drinking water where you add salt to flush out bromine and fluor from the body. Also, take selenium with iodine. Please consult with a good doctor, everyone has different needs
I thought it was because some people are allergic to iodine. As a child I used to pour salt in my hand and eat it that way. I think I must have craved salt.
Dr. Berry actually has a video specifically about that myth. Short version is no, you can't be allergic to iodine. You can be allergic to fish, or shellfish, or seaweed, etc. -- all foods that *contain* iodine -- you can be allergic to some of the other ingredients in iodinated contrast used for medical scans, or betadine, a medical disinfectant that *contains* iodine, among other things, but the iodine isn't what you're allergic to. Iodine is an essential nutrient that you can't live without. It would be like being "allergic to oxygen."
Started taking 5 drops every morning of Lugols on April 2024, and I also take selenium. However, just had my lab work done couple of weeks ago, and I am now hyperthyroid - elevated free T4 1.78 (range .92-1.68) , low TSH .14 (range .27-4.2). I feel fine and all, but I dropped my Lugols to two drops to see if it makes a difference on my follow-up M 44, 5'11, 185 lbs, going on 2 years carnivore.
The Greek Sea Salt I buy at Costco in Barrie Ontario Canada is iodized. The ingredients are Magnesium Carbonate, Sodium Thiosulphate and Potassium Iodide.
All true, thank you Dr. Berry! I’m so glad I learned about the necessity of iodine. We’re bombarded with fluoride and bromides, which overwhelmingly compete with and displace the iodine in our iodide receptors - also the reason breast cancer, thyroid cancer, and thyroid disease are growing faster than ever!
Several years ago my beloved cat suffered with hyperthyroidism. I wonder if I had known about iodine therapy back then if giving him even a drop of lugol's solution iodine on his paw or ear would have helped him. My theory is also that the fluoridated water most of our pets drink including him timer pretty much destroy their thyroids. Wish I would have known more even a decade ago!
I had ordered iodine when I first began carnivore, but could not find how much I needed in a day, I’ve taken a drop or 2, yet figured I might be safer without it than too much. If noone else has thanked you for this video, I’m thanking you!
I’m 35 female and have developed a big goiter…. I only use Redmond’s and use a lot of salt but obviously I needed more iodine. But I felt like I always ate like way better than some of my other family members yet I’m the only one with thyroid problems…
I take Iodoral tablets instead of the drops. It's Lugol's formula in a tablet. I'm back up to 25mg per day. Still flushing out *bromine,* which gives me bad sinus problems, so I drink warm salt water several times a day.
I had a doctor warn me about developing Thyroid Disease, when I told her that I was using an Iodine supplement. Thank you for this information, wonderful Doctor Berry! Have a blessed weekend!

I was diagnosed with goiter after I came to the US from Germany at 7 years old. The doctor said iodized salt would control it. About 25-30 years ago, I developed sleep deprivation. I was barely able to function or keep a job. A naturopath in 08 said I needed iodine. I had been using kosher salt for several years. I started using iodine liquid, and the sleep problem went away. I had previously gone to doctors to find the cause of my sleep problem, and they could tell me nothing. I am now 75 and take iodine every morning. I put it into my first cup of coffee. Medical doctors seem to not know anything about proper nutrition.
Ive been adding 25mg to 50mg of Lugols iodine to my meat based lifestyle. It was your 2024 interview with David Browstein that prompted me to give it a go. The results have been magical.
I changed to iodised salt at the beginning of the week and I could not believe how much better I felt in 2 days - no more heart flutters and I can sleep properly again after struggling for 4 years. I cant believe such a rapid result. I eat just over a teaspoon of salt a day and started taking a thyroid vitamin tablet which has iodine in it. I started eating only pink salt 4 years ago - that's when my issues started - big mistake! How could I possibly have such a quick response?
Years ago, my thyroid levels were abnormal (hypo), and I noticed that for some reason, I had been using salt without iodine. I switched back to one with iodine, bought from the supermarket, and in just a few months, my levels were back to normal.
@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 Just the regular Morton salt. And I never took any thyroid meds, since it was the first time my tests showed some abnormal levels. I was going to consider taking medicine, but was happy to find that my levels went back to normal.

😂 What he said in the first minute. The amount in the salt prevents Goiters, but isn't enough for optimum health. What he's saying for the rest of the video is to optimize.
I have always been conscious of iodine after learning in grade school why they iodize salt. I have always used Morton’s Iodized salt. I probably use 1/2 t per day in my food and coffee (love salt in my coffee with a bit of cream). Walmart also now sells Hain Iodized Sea Salt. I have never relied on getting my iodine from store or restaurant food. I am 61, have never had thyroid problems and had no fertility problems. I buy dulse (seaweed) flakes for my husband who is on a vegan diet that doesn’t allow salt, so that he gets his iodine. But I prefer Morton’s on my ribeye!
@Yellow-oc4sl thank you. I was asking what to do with people with hyperthyroidism, who's doctors tell them to avoid iodine like the plague. One lady I know was told not to even eat eggs or she would further damage her thyroid from the iodine in the eggs. I just don't know what to say to them.
I was told I was allergic to iodine when I was a kid. I went into anaphylactic shock eating lobster tail. My grandmother also used mercurochrome on a wound and it swelled my arm up. I've avoided iodine because of this. I was also used to a low salt diet, so I've never been a big salt person anyway. Earlier this it was suggested I take an iodine supplement. I got the Mary Ruth's liquid. Well, I misread the instructions and thought it meant 2 droppers full instead of actually 2 drops. I ended up taking 50x the recommended dose daily for 2 weeks before I figured out what I did ( went to reorder and it said it was supposed to last 18 months). Honestly it's the best I've felt in years. I cut back to half a dropper. I still felt better taking the more extreme amount daily. I wish I would have known this years ago.
I take one dropper full of Lugols iodine every day for thyroid and I have fewer issues with symptoms from hypothyroidism and hot flashes have definitely gone down.
Hi, Dr. Berry, this is off topic for this video, but I just came across a new study on meat consumption and hoped to get your take on it. I've been watching/studying/thinking about starting the carnivore diet (not sure I can eat that way long term, but also don't want to die young, so... pondering), but then studies like this one give me pause, especially since the number of participants in the study was so huge. I know big food and big pharma have infiltrated the colleges and everywhere else, but this was still a gigantic (overall) group of studies analyzed by researchers at the University of Cambridge: 1.97 MILLION participants total out of 31 study cohorts in 20 countries found that consuming just 50 grams of processed meat a day was associated with a 15% increased risk in developing type 2 diabetes, and 100 grams of unprocessed red meat a day was associated with a 10% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes over ten years. They say they accounted for factors such as age, gender, health-related behaviors, energy intake, and body mass index. I suppose it could be more related to what else the participants were eating during that time versus being carnivore-only, but if you could weigh in on this, I'd love to hear your opinion. Thanks!

I Had a goiter and my doc just wanted to take it out. I did not want to lose it. I decided to buy iodized salt again..good old umbrella girl salt.🤭. My thyroid shrank back to normal in less than a month. Now my big problem is tinnitus & when I sprinkle salt on my food it gets so much louder. SO what I do is what Dr Ken says. I take 3-4 drops Iodine daily. I put it in my last few sips of coffee & chug it down. Thyroid is quite happy.
Regarding tinnitus, mine gets louder when taking certain antibiotics. It will go back down to normal volume, but it's usually a few weeks after finishing antibiotics.
As a teenager I had a doctor tell me my allergic reaction after eating fresh fish/seafood, was because of the iodine. My grandmother and I both thought he was full of crap because of the iodine in foods and we used iodine treatments on the ranch for injured animals, so we came in contact with iodine often. I thought is was the fish, fish oils, the way it was prepared or something added to it that my body reacted to.

If you want to learn more about iodine get Dr David Brownstein's book on iodine.

I thought it was because some people are allergic to iodine. As a child I used to pour salt in my hand and eat it that way. I think I must have craved salt.
No human being is allergic to iodine !!! Look it up. Lol. It’s only the non- pure iodine products that cause problems. 😊
@ 💯 facts. It’s so hard to explain this however when people don’t want to listen. I personally take several drops of iodine daily

You are right, my dogs only drink rainwater, for this reason.
A drop of lugols iodine in their food once a day can help.

I take Iodoral tablets instead of the drops. It's Lugol's formula in a tablet. I'm back up to 25mg per day. Still flushing out *bromine,* which gives me bad sinus problems, so I drink warm salt water several times a day.

I changed to iodised salt at the beginning of the week and I could not believe how much better I felt in 2 days - no more heart flutters and I can sleep properly again after struggling for 4 years. So does spirulina
There ARE more people being diagnosed with 'thyroid nodules' goiter.
How many people w high blood pressure, whose doctor took them off salt, now have thyroid issues?

Thanks!
I haven't seen an iodized salt that doesn't also have anti caking agents. I'll stick with sea salt, foods and iodine liquid.
