if it's need SSE4.1-SSE4.2-SSSE3 - no, but CPU's have enough of power, only instructions are limitation
I suspect that the problem with DirectX not working is because of the Nvidia drivers for Fermi (GF119 in the GT610) that require instructions that might not exist in those Opteron CPUs.
these arrangement of 4 cpus are a sight to behold. please more server-stuff like Dunnington or Tulsa for example
With a X7QC3 you can achieve almost 1st gen Threadripper performance, but 13yrs ago. 24core Beast.
Quite interesting. I have X7DWU mobo and was thinking that 604 socket is for ddr2 and pre-Core cpus, so, maximum for dual-core pentium.
but... not, at all.Old slow ddr2 memory with only 4 channel of ram for all 4 hexa-core cpu it's not so good. In fact, this config(even 7400 chipset) works with X2 l5410 with memory slower, then Opteron 2220 x2, with same quad channel. Intel's memory controller in NB is bottleneck, and, of couse, DDR2 FB-DIMM memory, it hase a part of memory controller build-in, but it's not all the system make to run faster. Even quad S940 works with DDR1 ECC REG faster then this Intel, in couse of octa-channel(2 -per CPU), and you can overclock memory quite easy(or no, if you have not Nvidia chipset) - but octa channel you still have.
Tulsa is just fascinating, gonna put together a quad socket system with 7140m and see what netburst can do with lots of cores and cache!

Server hardware is fun to play with and can also be the biggest pain to make work as anything other than a server. I've run into some Dell boards that will not work with anything but the on board video.

Good idea, question is which chipset or MB ... this server AMD chipset is very tricky and doesn’t support lot of benchs SW
@@RETROHardware Well, for the quad Opteron I guess you only have this mainboard, right? If so, there is no choice, what works, works 😉
For the Quad FX you need the ASUS L1N64-SLI WS and few FX70-72-74 (which I assume you have in your infinite collection 😀).
For the Phenom X4 I think any AM2/AM2+ mainboard will work
only this one with 4x socket, I have lot of 2xsocket 940 setups AGP or PCIE, they support dual core CPUs
this can be "same" like Phenom X4

The GT 610 is the newest, but GT 520 is a faster PCI card if i remember correctly. You can also get adapters which work well with AMD R5 cards for extra performance.
520 has better memory clock
2:18 raw power of 610, but it would be cool if had windows 98 drivers, for some retro PCI action

Adapters based on PEX 8114 exist for full speed PCI-X to x4 PCIe, StarTech PCIX1PEX4 for example. I wonder if it would be possible to do a crossfire build with a pair of them.

Strange. I have a Tyan S2895 mobo and it's working fine with GS8400 for PCI, and with Quaddro QVS280(but 8400 is more interesting), I have installed Win 7 and it's works well with DX10(8400). And so on with Tyan S3970, with 2 dual or hexa-core opterons and PCI gpu.
i love the idea of using old CPUs multiple times for sample, an i5 2500k times 4 would be so fucking cool but no one will do this, no one is going to create an board and drivers :/

Easy way to fix nipply capacitors is to just push them back down 😁 I have a quad server at work but without having more than a PCI video card solution I have not bothered to try and make something happen with it.

Does seem like severe bottleneck on GPU as it is set.
Also, one CPU is taking more load than others (in games).

it is normal PCI, not pci-e. it cant run faster than that
i suspect the Zotac card is really PCIx1 card, that would explain it. There seems to be no traces on the card for the x2 x4 x8 lanes. PCI is the last slot on the botton, thats 16bit and really slow, i think about 133MBs.
@@joaoc_PT no this graphics card is PCI native and not PCI express, PCI is not the same as PCIe (PCI Express) the pci slots used here are pci-x slots that are 64bits. normal PCI slots are 32 bit and not 16bit, ISA slots are 16bit. Conventional PCI can be 32bit or 64bit, 64bit slots are longer and are usually used in servers like the motherboard shown this video.

Correct me if I am wrong but I do believe the OpenArena version of Quake3 will use the cores in a more balanced manner.
Or at least, if you ran linux it should do well, but I also am under the impression that in server2003 you would likewise achieve a superior result (using OpenArena). It has good quadcore multicore support, right?

i dunno the opteron just has this lame mistique to it... not once in the history of any one did some one ever ask what kind of computer you got.. and got the answer im using an opteron..... not once in any game chat has this occured .. the answer is always something thats not an opteron heck SEMPRON shows up as an answer more.. its like yeah i run unicorn shit for a computer.. sure it comes from a unicorn but it is still shit.. lol
i have a wx9300 hp workstation with dual socket with 2 opteron 270s toobad its in limp mode gotta get ddr ecc dims to make its dual socket work.. 2gb only good for 1 socket to run.. damn strict ram config..
