I kind of feel ashamed that I didn't knew this story at all beforehand. I never realized the significance of Chance's map and the burned town in game. It might be short story but I really like how it perfectly plays itself into the main theme of the game, letting go or dwelling on your past
Absolutely spot on thete. I wasnt aware of the lore around Chance for years either. Thought his knife was just a random unrelated weapon with perks. Til I finally stumbled on a lore video that told his story. Ive always been drawn to the Khans, since my first playthrough of N.V. Made more than one dedicated Khan character with their own story. They reminded me of some kind of blend of a 50's greasers, and an outlaw biker gang. A whole pack of Khans riding into the sunset on retro futuristic Fallout version of Harley's is something Id also love in a N.V mod.
Chance's Knife is one of the best melee weapons in the game when it received the 25% damage bonus from both the Commando and Cowboy perks. Late game, however, it is surpassed by Blood Nap, a unique Lonesome Road DLC bowie, which also benefits from the Cowboy perk, and has a much higher base damage.
Oh dude I remember this comic! It came with my pre-order for new Vegas. I even got the vault 13 bundle(came with the armored suit and the “trusty canteen” lol 😂). The art in this comic is amazing. I wish Bethesda would release more comics of fallout. Truth be told I almost wish Chance was the protagonist of New Vegas. It’s a bummer that a lot people didn’t fully understand the backstory(The grave) of chance back in 2010.
@@wyvvernstone exactly! Same thing goes with chances map that’s close to red rock canyon, The Khan camp and The tribal village right next to chances grave. If you didn’t read the comic book, you wouldn’t understand any of these locations. In my opinion they should’ve included dialogue in the game that would explain the full journey and characters before the events of good springs. That way nobody misses out.
If chance was alive at the time of the game, it would've been great to have him as a companion after Benny betrays Jessup and the other Khans. Having a companion that's activity anti NCR would be great, a counter to Boon.
Chance was a Warrior through and through. I don’t know what the Khans believe in as far as religion/afterlife but I’m sure he earned a warrior’s afterlife
can always rely on you for great stories in the fallout universe my favourite is still the one guy who looked out for the Mexicans and who hunted the dwellers who killed them
That's so cool! I always thought the map drawn in the sand near Red Rock Canyon was a plan of the Khans to attack Vegas. I never expected it to be connected to the burned down village where you find Hate and Love, or the grave between there and Goodsprings. I'm so surprised I haven't heard about this before
This is my favorite video, I watch it alot. Obviously doesn't have exact parallels but reminds me of my relationship with my best friend who lost his way from trauma and Chems.
The only time I've ever cried in video games was when I found Chance's map & I looked up what it was about & who left it. Chance is my 3rd favorite character in Fallout:NV behind Randal Clark & Joshua Graham. His story is the saddest story in the best RPG ever made. MANLY TEARS.
Absolutely heartbreaking. This is why Obsidian beats Bethesda out of the park. The tribal themes really look into what it means to be human instead of just vague good vs. bad morality that tries to appeal to everyone.
It took me a very long time to figure the map and the grave site out. At the time it came out I couldn't afford to pre-order anything more than the base game so I never knew about the comic story
Reminds me again of the vid essay I seen recently commentating that NV is all about learning to Let Go. Honestly, it once again applies here. I feel like this game speaks to me on a unconscious level I am not aware of; but this continual reassertion that I must "let go" feels telling and applicable.
I wish there was more of these. So many story’s to be told and comics would be great for it. Power armor might finally get the recognition it deserves if shown in the lore
When i got the collectors box. i read the comic and thought the fiends, were gonna be a serious threat and they werent they were just a let down copy paste fo3 raiders. But still an epic intro story. Kinda wish we could have met chance and had more great kharn story.
Great video, this is what made new vegas so special. Just felt like there was extra depth and care when it came to crafting the stories and lore, so many of the new vegas quests are memorable like that. I just hope Bethesda can keep this in mind for any new fallout games, because fallout 4, although good felt so vapid in its attempts to craft a narrative when compared to new vegas
I was listening to this vid at the same time, playing New Vegas and I stumbled upon Chance's Grave and dug up his Knife and his Great Khan's outfit... Soooo sick, this game is with the canon/lore! 🎉
His knife will forever be lost in my inventory waiting for the day that it will finally be sold for a mediocre gun just because it looked cool or dropped on the side of a road waiting for the cycle to repeat tossed into a crate as well inside the Lucky 38 forever inside a room watching companions walk by hearing Victor telling which floor it screams cannot be heard because it is a piece of metal
Great now I feel horrible for all those times I killed Jessup in my playthroughs of new vegas I let revenge get the better of me I didn't know his past
I remember back before I played the game for the first time I knew a bit of the story and who Benny and other bigger character were... so when I was reading the comic I was thinking about how much I was looking forward for a battle against Chance and how it was going to be a fighting second only to the Lanius fight. Later I used Chance's knife when I killed Benny and again when attacking the Khans in Red Rock Canyon...
there are A lot of life lessons In New Vegas but one that the game Keep teaching you about is Letting go. we see this In A lot of Characters in New Vegas like Cass, Boone, Grandma Lily, and Raul, they're all attached and resentful to the past, to let go is the only way of peace, it's an important lesson We Should all consider in our lives. the past Can't come back we can only look forward
Honestly it's the Khans life style of raiding that got them into that bittersprings nightmare and there own faults for stealing and killing they are just a more organized version of fiends i do feel bad for chance but you make your own bed so you must lie in it.
Just gotta say, that isn't Psycho. It would probably be Med-X, based on it's appearance. Psycho is a more complicated drug, but it's basically a methamphetamine, Med-X works as a sedative and painkiller, since it's literally morphine.
Not that it matters over all or justified Bitter Springs, but the Khans had been Raiding the NCR homesteads for a while. It is implied that this was massacre of these homesteads. So, it's understandable why many didn't care to spare anyone at Bitter Springs.
Challenge Run: Anytime you see fire or NCR soldiers, take all the Chems you have and go berserk using Chance's Knife...
Depends where
Man I have 60 tablets of oxycodone in my cupboard, please don’t make me do this
Hell ya!
@Lava Shark and Boy Girl And you see NCR soldiers outside?
We all need to give Chance a…chance

I love the mythical status the Courier achieves
@TheCommandZone.People like you are ruining RUclips. Scum.
No Gods! No Masters!
The Fallout new Vegas comic was badass, they should've made it a series.
Yeah at bare minimum it should've included a single comic of each major faction in the game, whether they are focused on key characters or not.
Facts I love comic books based on games especially when theyre rich with lore
Dude this comic gave me chills
@@Spongebrain97Randall Clark, Joshua Graham, Ulysses, etc.
Similar to the Mad Max comics by Vertigo. Joshua, Ulysses, Elijah, etc. would’ve been great stories.

Late game, however, it is surpassed by Blood Nap, a unique Lonesome Road DLC bowie, which also benefits from the Cowboy perk, and has a much higher base damage.
Blood-Nap isn’t covered by any reanimation mods, it also doesn’t look as good as the combat knives.
It's really a shame I didn't know about the Fallout New Vegas comic sooner. Seems like an hidden gem.
RIP Matthew Perry, he let us know that the game was rigged from the start...

I pre ordered as well and the bs people at gamestop never gave me my comic. They said they "ran out"
Yeah, to bad the sacrifice was all in vein. The rest of the group wasn't long for this world once I tracked them down to Boulder City.
A beautiful, haunting story. Your delivery and performance does it justice.
I hope the fallout tv show can be almost as deep as this comic
There's going to be a tv show?

I’m surprised we don’t have any legion companions tbh. I think Ulysses was planned to be in the base game, but they cut that version of the character.
It's always a gift to see a new Synonymous video come out to listen to and enjoy! ❤🔥
Been playing New Vegas for years and sharing a name with this guy, didn’t know his story until now. Love these videos about side characters like this
Nothing better to be playing Fallout while listening to Synonymous.
thank you for the incredible video, synonymous!! it was a great lore video, another lesson contributed to “letting go”
You're welcome! 😁👍

The sound of that horn in the first second or two of your videos has become a Pavlovian association for me and I’m okay with that.
Yeah, it's become a staple. Where is it from, though? I feel like I've heard it somewhere before.
I've played New Vegas a lot I didn't know this about Benny and would love to see you do a video on him

The last time I was this early, FNV crashed upon purchase.
Luckily, you didn't have to be early to enjoy the non-stop crashing of New Vegas if you played it on PS3 like I did.
