While I don't care for MSNBC towing the party line for the democrats, he told the police he was a reporter and was still shot at and tear gassed. Also Trump sternly protects the police, lies about the violence of protests (FBI has reported over 93% of protests associated with BLM after the death of George Floyd have been peaceful). Defending that, when the press are attacked, is sending out a threat to the press.
B) Does it matter what country the press in Lafayette Square was from? While our freedom of the press only extends to what can be published in our country, these Australian reporters were still here legally on work visas, and were legally reporting for their country. At the time, do you think the military police sicked on everyone there by AG Barr under Trump's orders stopped to ask the reporters "wait, are you associated with an American news outlet or a foreign one," before assaulting them? Of course they didn't (it's on video, so we know they didn't). They would have done the same if it were an American news outlet there instead. So the threat still stands. Even if they did ask, it still isn't right to attack foreign press when they operating within the limits of the law.
