No one is checking because no one cares. Buying a new build house was without doubt the worst decision I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to move out in a couple of years time.

Hi @Lew, you are right no one cares anymore, there are a few developers that do and they stand heads and shoulders above the other developers.

The boiler flue is not compliant and i grant you very very poor. As for scratches on the bath a bit of autosol and a rag and those will polish out in a jiffy.

It is extremely difficult to find good workman. This video may be geared towards new builds but you come up against similar issues when employing so called professionals to carry out repairs to older properties. The mindset of too many workman is all about getting in and out as quickly as possible and that's not conducive with a good result.
Coincidentally, I'm planning to carry out some work in the bathroom and I foresee the bath being damaged like your video shows so I'm going to protect it as best I can before calling in the builder and carpenter to do their work as I know they will just blame each other if something happens. When you're paying somebody else to do the job it shouldn't be up to the owner to do that but experience has taught me if you don't do certain things yourself they won't get done.

Hi @Jimp, I agree it is difficult to find good tradespeople who care about what they are doing and have pride in their work.

I doubt the NHBC are too concerned give their attitude to complaints from new home owners. It doesn't seem that the new homes ombudsman has had much effect yet on quality control.

I agree with you we are not seeing any real improvements in the industry since the new homes quality code and ombudsman went live which is a realy disappointing.

@@LivelyProfessionalServices We all know the solution. Financial penalties for all breaches of regs. This would not resolve the cosmetic stuff, but would at least help to prevent safety issues. Only a hit to the bottom line will incentivize developers to improve.
