These soldiers have guarded this tomb, since it's inception, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I love how they say, we should have a ceremony for our soldiers who never came home. You can tell this video crosses any language barrier. Every life is precious. Especially those who gave their own lives, to protect others. Thumbs up! Please keep the videos coming!

The guard is normally changed hourly during the day, every half-hour during the day in Summer and every two hours at night.
The sentinels wear no rank insignia, in order to never outrank the unknowns.
Tomb sentinels are selected from the most accomplished and elite of American soldiers.
It is a great honor to serve at the tomb. No special pay, each sentinel receives only their normal pay for their rank.

I remember going there my senior year of high school. It's a solemn place. To get selected to be one of the guards is an incredible honor in the US military. Everything is very scripted. The pace they walk, the number of steps they take on each pass. It is all perfectly controlled.

The men and women chosen for this honor do their duty of guarding the Tomb no matter what the weather may be like. They serve in hot dry heat, freezing rain, hurricane force winds and snowy blizzards, even when given the opportunity to be relieved of their duty because of weather they do their duty. It is not so much a parade as standing guard and honoring the sacrifices made.

The guard are changed, can't remember how long each guard is there. There is guard walking 24 hours a day, no matter the weather. There are several movies that explain the tomb and who is guarding it and how the soldiers are chosen.

This is the changing of the guard which I believe is every half hour. You should also see the videos of when some one dares to cross the barriers or talks not just during the changing of the guards but at any time. These guards have to work hard to get this position and are specifically chosen.

I enjoy all the videos on this channel. Such kind, respectful and caring people! The way they show respect, just touches my heart. To see them learn and appreciate other cultures traditions just tells me all I need to know. The Tomb of the unknown Soldier is a sacred , spiritual and special place where we honor all the unknown soldiers who have given their lives and never got to come home. Many of these around the world! God bless the United States of America and to all who have served and protected our country. Let us never forget these brave soldiers who were never identified. Thumbs up! Please keep the videos coming!

Tell them of the significance of 21 steps, 21seconds at each phase/position...
"" The Tomb Guard marches 21 steps behind the Tomb, turns, faces east for 21 seconds, turns and faces north for 21 seconds, then takes 21 steps down the mat and repeats the process. After the turn, the sentinel executes a sharp “shoulder-arms” movement to place the weapon on the shoulder closest to visitors watching the ceremony.
This signifies that the sentinel stands between the Tomb and any potential threat. Doing things in increments of 21 symbolizes the 21-gun salute, which is the highest military honor that can be bestowed.""

I lived within walking distance of Arlington National Cemetery and visited it many, many times. I'm a follower of Jesus. I've been to Bethlehem and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. I've also visited the wailing wall in Jerusalem. I've also been privileged to live in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar, and have spent time in Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Afghanistan, so have also been honored to visit the tomb of Salah-ah-din and the tomb of John the Baptist in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. My point is I appreciate the reverence Jews, Muslims and Christians confer to their holy places. So forgive me, but I've never sensed more holier ground than that of Arlington National Cemetery, which is the resting place of all American veterans, Muslim, Jew, Christian, or otherwise. They all served to defend the United States, and the right of all people to worship God, or choose any other concept of one's eternal destiny. The changing of the guard ceremony shown in this video is conducted every half hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That's 17,520 times a year, and every ceremony is performed to perfection, whether there's an audience or not, as the only audience that matters is the Almighty and the souls of the unknowns.
