Very impressive drummer! I have the Wekl 14x5 signature model plus the Remo dampener. The snare serial is 2341 so hopefully I’m far enough from the lug snafu. My question is regarding the Remo not fitting to the hoop on the Yamaha. The clamp doesn’t reach under the hoop for a secure fit. I’m older and haven’t played for a decade. My go to snare back in the day had a triple flange hoop so no problems. How did you attach yours? Did Remo make different models of dampeners? Thanks…Rich
Thanks 🙏. That high serial number should be fine! There is always a bit of fiddeling involved with those dampeners, but you can find a position for them to work on any snare. Especially on the Weckl snare I use them all the time...
Wonderful video Simon. I love Yamaha drums and 13" snares in particular. I did not realize this drum existed! What can one expect to pay for a drum like this in US dollars?
Thank you, Scott 🙏😊!! Well, try to find something on ebay, reverb etc... They usually go for anything between 500 and 1000 dollars, it really depends.... Yamaha discontinued ALL of their signature snares, so resell prizes are constantly rising... But you will definitely find one if you keep looking. It's a great snare drum! Cheers 🤘
Welcome back to my "Snare of the Month" series 🥳🤘!! This time we take a look at the Yamaha 13"x5" Dave Weckl Signature Maple Snare Drum (first generation, early/mid 90ies). Playing demo starts at 08:00 💪. I hope you enjoy this video and I'll hit you up with a new one next Monday 🤘.
Hmmm... The guy I bought this snare from directly contacted someone of Yamaha UK. Back then, they still produced replacement parts for the Weckl snares. I fear now that's over 😖...
I’d say I prefer this one now over the Colaiuta’s signature due to the bigger range of tuning possibilities, specially because of the die cast and the two snare wires.
They both have the same die cast aluminium hoops and the Vinnie Snare has a huge tuning range, too 😎. The two snare wires are a big advantage, though 👍.
Ps: Tolle videos Simon !!!!!!! ruclips.net/video/BvKz8XMvJDo/видео.html
Danke, Lisa 🙏! Ich weiß, das YDLS ist mir natürlich nicht fremd 🙈. Hab die Colaiuta Snare auch und werde dieses Problem im nächsten Snare of the Month video ansprechen😉👍.
Such a great snare!!! Thanks for this awesome review!!! 👍👍🙏
You're very welcome! Thanks, Jennifer 🙏😎🥳!!
High tune, high muffle sounded amazing.

Surprised you don’t own a Steve Jordan snare. Those are super nice.
Would love one 😉...

Never seen a Weckl snare. Of course he would do some crazy nerd shit like that. 😆 sounds great obviously. But damn. Two full on strainers.
It's a special but really worthy concept 🥳.
Hi...I'm follow your post from FB page YAMAHA Drummer, nice VDO...cool!!
Thank you 🙏😊!!
Curious where you found the replacement throw offs? I have 1-13” and 3-14” and need some parts. Any leads where to look? Thanks
