_Watches video to get inspiration/justification for my secret Half-Dragon Medusa end boss_ AJ: "Can you have a Half-Dragon Medusa? Yes you can." Me: He's onto me!
An amusing character. A dragonborn/half dragon who thought he was just a dragonborn with a tail because he never saw another dragonborn until he was almost 12 after being given to a human blacksmith when he was the dragonborn equivalent of a toddler
Well, this video has certainly validated the concerns I had with the main antagonist in my upcoming debut campaign. He's a half Goliath, half blue dragon. In my homebrew setting a certain colony of Goliaths carry the werebear lycanthropy gene, so for this guy the bear part didn't quite mesh into the genetics. He's able to shapechange between Goliath and half dragon form, with his latter form also sprouting tufts of course hair. I did this for the purely dramatic effect of having this already imposing Goliath figure transform into an even more intimidating presence.
I have a player that is half dragon half tiefling, We chose the half dragon template and tweaked the damage resistances to suit their draconic parentage, and the tiefling side gained one of the tiefling legacies. Fairly balanced homebrew character that is actually half Crystal Dragon and half Tiefling.
I recommend against full blood transfusion and heart transplant. Unless you like being as big as a house, I won't judge it's just that it makes finding armor for your bulk ridiculously difficult to purchase.
The Bukkakian From The Planet Dillhole unless the blood was from a white or silver dragon... Then your breath will become minty fresh... And frigid af.
there is a sub-type 'half-dragon' in my world, because there are a lot of similar ones. For example there is a race (or monster) of feline half-dragons like those "dragon-guard-dogs" in Volo's Guide, but with big cats (lions, tigers, leopards, etc).
"Infiltrated the priests graduation ceremony." *Flashes back to Homeland* Yeah, I can see how that might cause an issue, given how the Drow like to celebrate.
Anyone else clicked the like button out of habit when seeing Half-Dragon in the title? I'm not biased, I swear. Ignore the dragon thot in my avatar, it means nothing. I am not being obvious!
@@namekman01 I am more than happy to talk shop with you. I don't like to throw out figures just because I like to at least try and work within my clients means. Within reason of course. If you'd like to discuss pricing and so forth, my business email is me@lanelibra.com
I think the most terrifying half dragon would be half dragon cats. Their already massive assholes without the draconic influence. Most seem to posses reality warping powers too; their lack of fireballs is the only thing keeping them even a little balanced. I mean, could you imagine finding an abandoned village full of stray cats, trying to pet one, or pick it up and immediately having your face lazered off?
Cats aren't arseholes, they're divine beings. I certainly prefure cats to most people on a individual bases. But yes i agree. You'd be f*cked... I can imagine a cat speaking draconic - i've about a books worth of notes on a universe i'm building back here where all dragons can polymorph as metalics do. And cats are one of the deadiest dragon infiltration forms. More likely the half dragon kitty would let you pet it, get you to take it home & sooner rather than later you and everyone you know would be slaving away for it in a goldmine.
I once played as an abomination born from 2 Half Dragons. Mother was Silver Dragon/Celestial, Father Blue Dragon/Infernal. Ended up with Celestial and Infernal natures with the Dragon Blood holding the mix together without going Kaboom! We all thought Character would die quick as DM was throwing everything at it to kill him. Stupidly lucky rolls and munchkin fuckery kept him alive up to level 20 surprisingly.
I got a half emerald dragon kobold (actually Urd or however it was spelled) infant the party's cleric instantly adopted the thing, having no idea that it is is not only a half dragon but also a sorcerer (it has thunderclap and has never seen the sun, I am looking forward to these idiots trying to bring it out of the Cave XD)
3.5 edition campaign that just started. My friend is a human, half-silver dragon monk that looks like a bald human with silver scales, getting the dragon part from his mom, and I'm plotting on how to become a dragon rider if we ever meet his mom so I can be like "dude, I'm riding your mom". The DM was thoroughly entertained when I told him about my plan, so high hopes.
I don't know if you remember my comments from earlier videos but I have been making a shadow Dragonborn, shadow dragon combo of a nearly destroyed Dragon Cult that got trapped in the shadowfell (they are the last 2 survivors), how does throwing in the half dragon aspects making them half siblings go with that, building the bond between the two. The dragonborn becoming an adventurer to gather treasure for his dragon sibling.
The personality traits from their draconic parents not affecting their alignment always sounds fun to play with. Like, say a Chaotic good half-Red Dragon. Jovial, friendly, holds family and friends at a high value... and if you try to harm either of those then that half-red dragon greed shows itself. The potential villain could have the two-fold rage of attacking those dear to them and attacking what is "theirs" directed toward them.
Excellent video AJ. I now know that my 5-subject notebook I wrote in the 90s for my player characters "Demidragons" was not so crazy and was not loved because it was niche. I actually included player character versions of dragons and different versions of bloodlines and growth, a way to customize your dragon blood and the "lesser being" to create your dragon PC or draconic hybrid. Most played the boring one, the double-sized member of their non-dragon race with cosmetic alterations and available demidragon traits and mana techniques. Some did love the level-based growth. Some did love hoard-based growth. Some just loved the simple. One dragon-blood was an enemy race. They were a race of Lizard Men created by Red Dragon polymorphed... lusty rogue Red Dragon... with a perverse curiosity. He created the Dragon Men people. They were tougher Lizard Men that can fly clumsily and bellow out fire breath every 3rd round while having major heat resistance... and a special vulnerability to dragon killing weapons (like all demidragons and dragons). One of my reoccurring villains/anti-heroes is Seth in my campaigns. He is a Drow hybrid with a Deep Dragon. His Kit is ironically a hybrid of Assassin and Dragon Slayer. Well, maybe not ironically. He can bypass most defenses in any of his attacks against Underdark beings, bypassing defenses is HIS thing and he is the best at doing it. He is the boring mix, a double-height Drow with 8x the mass. The least of his abilities are really impressive, his fighting talents that are enhanced by his arsenal of magic items. His Deep Dragon nature is stronger than most, Underdark gear he carries does not suffer when he uses them in the surface world like they would be if carried by most. However, he lacks the ability to not get blinded nor hurt by bright sunlight without magic or cover... ever. Evil DM snippet... those casting hurtful light to steal his ability to be stealthy but really bolster his rage to give +10 to hit and damage, let him ignore the first 3 pts of damage of every hit (minimum is taken of 1 HP), and give him 3 additional attacks while all attacks are considered "blind". He is skilled in Blindfighting to the level of +8 blindness canceling. And... yes.... he is a reoccurring NPC that is a role-playing guy to either direction, preferable to not being a murder-hobo bad guy. I had what is now classified as a "murder hobos" that made me give serious thought into Seth. I had to create a whole story and thing about him because of those idiots. The silver lining, Seth is now a wonderful half-dragon!
Actually running a game currently that has the PC's as all half-dragons. We have a silver/human paladin, a brine/elf druid, a magma/elf sorceress, and a blue/gnome bard. They're good aligned pirates who sail against the evil kingdoms of the setting.
I have played a half-dragon before, he was a half-orc half-prismatic dragon cleric of the strength domain and was an absolute beast in combat. From memory he had 30 strength, being the max he could start with, as I scored a single 18 with my attributes. The rest of his ability scores were nowhere near as ridiculous. He would have been insanely overpowered in some groups but he joined a campaign where the other members had already been running for a while and were 5th level. He was a lot of fun to play as he had decided that his ancestry meant that he was destined to become overlord of the goblinoids of his region.
I've played a half demon half black dragon before It was an interesting character he looked like a four-armed balrog and his favorite weapon was two ever dancing orcish double axes
If youd like the 2nd addition weredragon here AJ,from 1995 monsterous manual annual it would be my pleasure to put it down in the comments section. DO YOU HAVE A 5TH EDITION WEREDRAGON...I DONT HAVE ANY 5TH ED. STUFF?
An elf can live about 1,000 years, a half dragon elf can double that to 2,000 years, an arch druid ages 1 year for every ten that pass meaning a half dragon-half elf arch druid can live 20,000 years To put that into perspective, Karsus's folly happened 1,800 years ago, the netherese empire began 4,500 years ago, the fall of the drow happened about 11,500 years ago, the first crown war began 16,200 years ago, and the first sundering was 19,100 years ago For an irl example, goats were domesticated 12,000 years ago, pigs were domesticated 15,000 years ago, and pottery for storage rather than art was invented about 20,000 years ago in China
@@AJPickett Imagine being a drow, proud of your long heritage as one of the underground dwelling evil elves, and then this dude pops up and is like "Yeah I was already like one of the most ancient beings on the planet when you guys became the underground dwelling evil elves and I'm still here lol"

@@jacawandersmok9043 I actually turned this concept into a character in a dnd setting I'm almost done building, although he isn't an elf anymore since they only live 400-500 years in that setting, I made him a kobold (typically live 700-800 years but can live to 1,000 due to their draconic blood) named Beeblenax and peppered the history of the world with random tidbits like Beeblenax invents tea, Beeblenax brews the first health potion, and Beeblenax creates the dragonborn He's also Bahamut's and Tiamat's great uncle because they were regular dragons who ascended to godhood in the setting
A half celestial is naturally immune or resistant to everything except for fire damage half dragon of The Gold variety is resistant or immune to fire damage combining the two at least as they are presented in the back of the 3rd Edition monster manual 1 shows that the combination of the two have a natural immunity to everything... however I'm not sure if that applies in 5th edition
Really enjoy your channel. Just a Note: Draconians from Krynn are not completely sterile. Their are very very few females however. There eggs being hidden away in stasis chambers by followers of Takissis. As insurance if they ever turned against her. Most Draconians do not even know of their existence. Kangs Regiment trilogy. Thanks
I have two accounts of Half dragons within my campaign. One serious, one silly. The serious character was a half-White Dragon, who was trying to combat his limitations of being the son of a white dragon by trying to become a wizard. Needless to say, he wasn't able to since he had a hard time learning magic on a academic level. Since his academy believed he wasn't able to learn magic, he was kicked out. However he soon found out he was able to learn magic on a more hands on sense. He learned by watching, not reading basically and so he became a path of Rage Magic Barbarian. The silly one, was a half- Black Dragon Illithid who became a werebear and then obtained Lichdom. It was after he obtained Lichdom(while also being a werebear), he was basically sucked into the Abyss where he was asked by literally all the demon lords if he would want to become a Demon Lord as well. He accepted this, and goes out drinking with Graz'zt every week.
@@AJPickett I got the idea of Rage Magic from this module called Barbarian Spellcasters. It most likely is kind of a sorcerer of some kind though. Go ahead, I certainly don't mind seeing more Were-Lich-Illithid-Half-Dragons in people's campaigns.
god the idea of playing a half kobold sounds amazing, or just a regular kobold/urd that tries to display themselves as a half dragon. so many fun ideas i'll never get to play.
@@aubreyackermann8432 even better since gnomes and kobolds are natural enemies. to present themselves as a dragon they have to claim heritage towards something they despise.
Here's a idea make a kingdom with a targaryen like royal family but instead of riding dragons they are the dragons or at least descended from them and yes just like in GoT they primarily keep in the family
So, correct me if I'm wrong but, is it possible to have two different dragon species mate with one another and create a hybrid dragon? If so, I think that would be an interesting topic.
I've had a player submit a background to me that had them as a half-copper mother/half-halfling father. The story is that the father was a high-level bard, with some creative magic scrolls. He was raised by the dragon for years, then went out into the world...to bring gifts back for his mother (treasure). Given the possibilities for follow-up adventures, we ran with it. Sadly, the game fell apart, but it was an interesting take on the usual lore.
Currently got a Human Wizard with an accidental similarity to an Adult Green Dragon's skills and mental ability scores. I'm very keen to see if she will happen upon a chance to study draconic transformation. Harvesting a chromatic dragon would be less ethically dubious than a metallic one. :P
About the lacking culture/heritage, I think halfdragons would be quite similar to tieflings in this respect, individuals may have extremely different origins, (a loving family or the unwilling result of an arcane ritual), but they are all outcasts, distrusted for their assumed evil nature, their strange appearance, their potentially destructive breath weapons (a haphazard fire blast could level a village of thatched huts). Dragonborn especially may see halfdragons as abominations or mockeries of themselves, actively persecuting and stirring rumours against them. If they aren't sterile their ancestry could lend itself to some very interesting characters, I can imagine a family with a longstanding draconic heritage wouldn't appreciate being called "halfbreeds". It would be interesting how their culture and traditions might develop, maybe "wyrmling", "great wyrmling", "wyrm" and "great wyrm" are used to describe children, grandchildren, parents and grandparents, this could create some amusing misunderstandings with other races. :) While the dragonborn are kind of disappointing, all with the same cookie-cutter origin and deliberately nerfed abilities. Halfdragons can be so unique in their backstories and characteristics, pampered child or tortured pawn, with powers and impulses they may struggle to control. A sorely underappreciated race/template as they're a mix of the best of dragonborn and tieflings.
Most insane half dragon concept that I remember popping up is the Half-Black Dragon War Troll in 3.5...the one that is pretty close to indestructible for it's CR level and requires some pretty hefty magic to put one down.
I had a high level half brass dragon monk back during the 3.5e days. It was a bit too broken but I loved the guy. Rare case of a melee class being able to dish as much/more damage than spellcaster classes. Double natural armor advantage, immune to poisons, fire, diseases, basically immortal, double unarmed strike advantage, can heal his own wounds without needing a healer... Once we were done with this campaign my DM told me to switch characters because I could basically just walk into any situation or fight and come out unharmed and having left a gory mess of whatever attacked me behind. It didn't help that being half brass dragon my character was super cocky and talkative and would continuously jest with the opponents during a fight... Fun fact: my party's preferred mode of transport was riding on my character's back, because he was strong, fast and tough enough to be much more convenient than having to deal with horses.
Ernest Lam I am honestly more afraid of the half mouse. A giant mouse is a terrifying creature, and that’s without being half dragon. Look up the Giant Space Hamster. It’s tougher than some dragons.
There is myth about mouse or rat defeating the dragon. It illustrates how time allows the underdog to win bc they're not manifested completely at any one time. You are spread across the timeline.
I always try to play a half dragon, but most GMs claim that the race is too OP. I also am normally in 3rd, 3.5 or Pathfinder. I'm hoping to talk a friend of mine into letting me run one as a Paladin or fighter in his Supernatural/monster hunter game. The later 3.5 books granted extra feats that let you gain extra uses of the breath weapon, wings and feats for them, and ways to increase your half dragons natural armor.
OP ? .. Nah your DMs are just being whining jerks. Multiclass rogue2nd" for evasion"/Wizard 5th/ Loremaster4th prestige class for quicker caster level gain; CR:11; caster level: wiz9th. Polymorphself your PC into a winged lizardman/ half-dragon. Make a tongue ring that spits Lightning Blots or Cone of Cold/Fire. Take a couple of levels in fighter for two extra feats for Fly By Attack, and Ranger for two weapon fighting. Some regard the path of a half dragon is to be able to cast Polymorph to turn into a full dragon. Instead of becoming a lich at 12th-level, you could become a 3d12 dragon with 12th-level sorcerer/wizard caster level. Then again it is up to your DM or your fellow players out voting the DM. I played off a 10th-level wizard with a few levels in rogue to bluff my way as being multiple different monsters/ fiends. As punishment my DMs hade me rewrite up all my skill ranks as outsiders to be used as npc in campaign. I was also the shop's fourth backup DM and ran player vs player PC battles.
As far as I'm aware. Draconians are all male, not sterile. I have a book with a story about a battalion of draconians searching for female eggs. Also you didn't talk about the 3.5 edition half-dragon template. Made me very sad. I was looking forward to you explaining half-dragon shambling mounds and gelatinous cubes.
AJ Pickett I’m sure you get a ton of “Thank you for the lore and role playing advice, but what do their dicks look like tho???” comments whenever you make a video about any non-human race.
Hey AJ, interesting video. Yet another playable race for 5e. I enjoy the way 5e is so open to, whatever it is you want to do. Thank you AJ & have a great day.
I typically make half-dragons, cambions, and other planar hybrids have souls, but their souls are supplemented by a particular source of planar energy due to their heritage. Similar to how a sorcerer gets their power, but rather than drawing on the energy for a source of arcane power, it’s more so a vital part of them, like blood or lymph, their physical form depends on the presence of that energy to function.
I once had an epic level Unicorn/human/gold dragon, the Unigon. He was a paladin gifted as a son to a gold dragon who was faithful to Lurue her entire life but had never been able to bear the child she so desired. Pretty insane stats too, I'm glad half dragons don't get the ridiculous bonuses to Str, Cha, ect they used to because it made them almost unplayable as a character race.
A story of 5 half dragon siblings that find out who there mother is and that their dragon side comes form her even though the are all half a different chromatic dragon.
I still have and use my Council of Wyrms. What's that? Use a Female Drow, half deep shadow dragon... Priestess of Nerull/Necromancer Wizard as the next BBEG?. Yeah, I think I will, thank you 🖖😁
I really like the idea of creating a Vampire half dragon. I'm sure there's a blood dragon in dungeons and dragons lore and I can see a cult of vampires worshipping this beast, the half dragon is the spawn from one of it's consorts. I don't know what mother race but I've got the visual of a draconic face drooling blood similar to the Xenomorph drools in Aliens
AJ Pickett wait... Wouldn't that make the resulting Half-Dragon a Dhampyr? Since dragons aren't undead but vampires are. I think I have an idea for a Half-Dragon Blood Rayne for a new session now.
I am currently flooding my homebrew world with half dragons of all kinds and shapes. Also, I like imagining the half dragons that are created unintentionally. Imaging a pair of bronze dragons mating in a mareel or a plankton bloom. If some sperms get in the water, you may soon have a magic half dragon reef and the lokals might complain about the recent increase in lighning breathing oysters, considering how many marine organisms release their eggs in the water. Also half dragon barnacles might protect the ships, they are growing on. On the other hand, they will make keelhauling even more painful. And half black dragon, acid breathing shipworms are the bane of all sailors. I am currently working on a swamp region in which all creatures are ore will soon become half dragons (thanks to dragons understanding evolution and wanting to create a deep impact in their ecosystem and leaving an everlasting heritage), so even if you just flip over a stone, everything will spit acid in your face. Also all those half dragons influence the ecology and change the food net (they can reproduce and are really invasive, especially since the ecosystems they invade do not have the elemental resistances that their original habitat had). I think one of my favorite half dragons I am currently working on, is a gigantic blue dragon man o´war that rules as a tyrannical queen over the sea in the hollow world of my setting and stores its hoard in its translucent pneumatophore (it uses the up flying nectar of the world willows to counterbanace the weight). Also, since siphonophores are colonial, "she" is not only the queen but also the aristocracy (technically this colony does not have a gender since they are polyps and thus the asexual part of the life cycle of the species). Also if blood can create half dragons, things will get interesting. Imagine all those parasites that will soon become half dragons! Maybe the dragon has nematodes that will rise and protect its host (or emerge after the dragon died). Maybe the old black dragon had a favourite bog or lake he liked to rest in, and now the people tell stories about those strange scaled giant leeches that are starting to get a breath weapon and also sprout little wings and start to fly around. Or imagine the heroes that recently have slayed the ancient red dragon. Now his corpse lies in the woods and his blood is seeping away in the ground. If you remember the high abundance of biodiversity in only a hand full of earth, you might realise that there soon will be fire breathing earth worms, scaled springtails and many other organisms. Also what about scavangers both on land and in the sea that will eat dead dragons? Might they also become half dragons or creatures alike? Can you imagine a dragon fall ecosystem in the deep sea analoge to the whale fall communities? There are many interesting things to consider!
Fantastic video as always. Being an MTG buff have you ever thought about doing videos to run campaigns like "everything you need to know about dolminaria" or breaking that down into bite sized chunks "everything you need to know about Benalia"? The art books are great but I think you could show them how it's done!
I have played as a half dragon-half kobold who was the child of my last kobold and his Drakewarden dragon partner. Currently, he is a lv 2 Fighter/lv 5 Dragon Sorcerer.
A svirfneblin( a.k.a. deep gnome) half green dragon college of whispers bard who is a guild artisan of toxicology (poison making) sounds pretty sick. Lots of room to embody some of the witty, slick and sly aspects of green dragons.
Me before: I have several questions about the logistics of making half-dragons and half-giants, even though I'm certain that the answer is to both is horrific. Me a few minutes in: Oh it's because the dragon polymorphs, okay. By the way, Grea is the best half-dragon.
so, i have a big bad in my campaign, he's a Hobgoblin Shadow sorcerer. His warband lives in the underdark and he has captured a Copper Dragon and has been experimenting with control of it, i now have an idea for half-copper dragon/Bugbear brutes that use the acid breath weapon to keep the frontline of my players to get towards the casters. not to mention half-copper dragon/goblin assassins that use the slow breath to prevent the fighter from taking his 3 attack turn with action surge.
In the Forgotten Realms paperback "WAR IN TETHYR" a female gem dragon (I think a Amethyst dragon) had birthed a new for of dragon. This character was female with red hair and did not know she was a dragon until she changed but thought she was a human girl. When she changed she became a one of a kind ruby dragon with a breath weapon made of ruby dust blown at speeds that could shred flesh. How could this have happened and have you heard anything else on this one of a kind dragon?
My dragonborns background feature let him know some lost piece of information. I picked the knowledge that a half dragon ritual exists, as is mentioned in the MM template. His goal is to discover and go through it becoming a half dragon dragonborn
I know a response is unlikely but I have been watching tfs DND playthrough on RUclips and it is my first time seeing the game. And it looks fun as hell and I want to get into it. Now I heard of a race called dragonborn that sounds cool and I was wondering if I could have a half dragonborn half human character, you know human like apprance but dragonborn like stats?
Hmmm, Half dragon Saurial...why have I not thought of that before? Half dragon Rakasta (Tiger folk from way back) Had a Half dragon Leprechaun villain in one campaign. Half dragon Thri-keen.
So about that half-dragon drow society (and how do you spell the name of said society) are they also worshiper of Eilistraee. And there any half-dragon gods
I once played a white half dragon monk in one of my friends D&D campaigns that used a synthesis of 1st and 2nd edition rules. Eventually the character got converted into a fighter after my friend also let the character have cleric as a second class and also was granted the ability to turn into a full dragon by either Tiamat or Bahamet (they worked together in his campaign rather than being at odds, so I forget which one granted the ability to turn into a dragon) once the character got to 17th level monk/cleric/white dragon and realized his mistake (it was a high level, high power campaign, but that combo was too OP for even a campaign that started at level 10 and I even agreed with him). Anyhow, that was a fun character (both as a half-dragon monk and a white dragon fighter/cleric).
AD&D2ndE role playing dragons was about .. role .. playing and not xp award gain. 3rdE was xp gain to create magic items. Problem with RP dragons is, after they reach 200 years of age, they start to sleep decades at a time. So you have to play a younger dragon and your starting PC's great grand child.
In the realm of weird combos, I made a half brass dragon triton storm sorcerer (from her triton mother) and vengeance paladin. It's a bit min-max for sure… when she reaches 6th level sorcerer she will have resistance to lightning and thunder damage in addition to her fire resistance. Her dragon father was wounded near fatally by Imyrrith (sp?) in an air battle, so he fled to the sea, shifted into a male triton, then hid there, falling in love with a female triton which resulted in her birth. As an adult, she took up work on a ship as many storm sorcerers do, when her crew was killed by a green dragon which aids pirates by gassing the crew, leaving the pirates no resistance to their plundering (this storyline is from an old adventure in a very early Dungeon magazine). She now hunts evil dragons (paladin) and ultimately seeks to find out if her father still lives. Since she's 9th level, I've equipped her with a dragonslayer great sword just to put the whole NPC over the top!
I have a half-dragon character who I'd really love to play again. He was the son of a Cormyr soldier who went AWOL and a women he fell in love with in a mountain village he found his way to. He didn't know she was a silver dragon but they had a son and he came out looking reptilian so he thought Torm must of cursed his son for his abandoning his duties to Cormyr. She never worked up the courage to tell him she was actually a dragon for fear he would leave her. One day she disappeared and he was left to raise his son alone. Ballast grows up becoming a prolific fighter and scholar in his search to find out what is wrong with him. But eventually gives up after years of dead ends and settles into a life as a bounty hunter. I played as well to where Ballast was "mute" in that he had a natural knowledge of Draconic but couldn't communicate in common on account of his draconic head not being able to replicate his dad's speech and his mom wasn't there to teach him how to speak common as a dragon would. He did however have wonderful penmanship and was able to very eloquently write in Common.
I'm playing as a female Silver Half-Dragon Horizon Walker Ranger in a Homebrew Campaign though technically she has to be classified as a Silver Dragonborne due to the mechanics. Though lore-wise she's a Silver Half-Dragon right down to having a tail that combined with draconic growls, hisses, snarls, and other noises lets you know her emotions.
I ran a game in which a chad type who made a 1/2 dragon in an evil campaign I ran. he bragged about making such an op character that I couldn't touch him. I stopped fudging rolls. 1/2 his tail was severed while he was in a drow city. While there he got an artifact called queen elyssas marvelous nightingale. He botched his 1st will save so got possessed by the spirit of an 8 year old human girl

Inevitably these interactions produce loyal hulking half-breed monstrosities which act as chieftains, proxies for the Black Dragon's domination. I don't know the adventuring party who would willingly go into those swamps.

there is a sub-type 'half-dragon' in my world, because there are a lot of similar ones. For example there is a race (or monster) of feline half-dragons like those "dragon-guard-dogs" in Volo's Guide, but with big cats (lions, tigers, leopards, etc).

A half-dragon dying and becoming a genie sounds intriguing.
Dragon + displacer beast
Cats aren't arseholes, they're divine beings. I certainly prefure cats to most people on a individual bases. But yes i agree. You'd be f*cked... I can imagine a cat speaking draconic - i've about a books worth of notes on a universe i'm building back here where all dragons can polymorph as metalics do. And cats are one of the deadiest dragon infiltration forms. More likely the half dragon kitty would let you pet it, get you to take it home & sooner rather than later you and everyone you know would be slaving away for it in a goldmine.
Half rust dragon. An angry looking dwarf with antenna and butterfly wings eating the gold he just mined.

The DM was thoroughly entertained when I told him about my plan, so high hopes.
Half dragon (red) troll is dam near immortal.

The dragonborn becoming an adventurer to gather treasure for his dragon sibling.
works pretty well I would say. What an interesting family dynamic!
Half-Dragon Purple Worm?
Dragons really have to keep a better lid on their kinks.

I've played a half demon half black dragon before
It was an interesting character he looked like a four-armed balrog and his favorite weapon was two ever dancing orcish double axes

An elf can live about 1,000 years, a half dragon elf can double that to 2,000 years, an arch druid ages 1 year for every ten that pass meaning a half dragon-half elf arch druid can live 20,000 years
To put that into perspective, Karsus's folly happened 1,800 years ago, the netherese empire began 4,500 years ago, the fall of the drow happened about 11,500 years ago, the first crown war began 16,200 years ago, and the first sundering was 19,100 years ago
For an irl example, goats were domesticated 12,000 years ago, pigs were domesticated 15,000 years ago, and pottery for storage rather than art was invented about 20,000 years ago in China

@@jacawandersmok9043 I actually turned this concept into a character in a dnd setting I'm almost done building, although he isn't an elf anymore since they only live 400-500 years in that setting, I made him a kobold (typically live 700-800 years but can live to 1,000 due to their draconic blood) named Beeblenax and peppered the history of the world with random tidbits like Beeblenax invents tea, Beeblenax brews the first health potion, and Beeblenax creates the dragonborn
He's also Bahamut's and Tiamat's great uncle because they were regular dragons who ascended to godhood in the setting

The most broken overpowered half dragon possible is a half gold dragon half celestial
Yeah i've heard of this loophole before. And honestly it's inspiring me to create a new type of monster based on the combined themes it represents.
Thanks
Good to know, thanks!
Great vid AJ. Cleared up my own doubts about double breath weapons of the metallic half dragons. Thanks for the shout out.
Half dragon T-Rex or other dinosaurs. Brings a whole new meaning to "clever girl"
Rage Magic Barbarian, so, a Sorcerer :)
I may be using the Were-Lich-lithid-Half-Dragon in my own campaign.
Half Dragon half Kobold would be great . He doesn't look like a threat but he surpises his enemies with his power.
He might resent that when he pretends to be half dragon, he can only explain his size by claiming his mother was a gnome
#There'sJustSomethingInTheDragonBlood. XD
So, correct me if I'm wrong but, is it possible to have two different dragon species mate with one another and create a hybrid dragon? If so, I think that would be an interesting topic.
Yes, and yes, it is. Where Tiamat and Bahamut are actively fighting each other, they may not allow any such unions to produce offspring though.
Man, so many great games have fallen apart due to the cruel forces of reality.

While the dragonborn are kind of disappointing, all with the same cookie-cutter origin and deliberately nerfed abilities. Halfdragons can be so unique in their backstories and characteristics, pampered child or tortured pawn, with powers and impulses they may struggle to control.
A sorely underappreciated race/template as they're a mix of the best of dragonborn and tieflings.
I played a Half Red Dragon troll in 3.5 so op no fire damage and plus 20 str
3,5 was OP? Yes, yes it was :)
Most insane half dragon concept that I remember popping up is the Half-Black Dragon War Troll in 3.5...the one that is pretty close to indestructible for it's CR level and requires some pretty hefty magic to put one down.
Troll Half-Dragon is a pretty popular choice.
@@AJPickett War Troll is even better. War Troll's don't have the weakness to Fire, and the black dragon part handles the acid part...
Is there a size limit for wings, or can a half-dragon of any parentage have wings?
Also, would an Eldritch Knight be a good class?
Half dragon half mouse
Half dragon half tarrasque

I really like the idea of creating a Vampire half dragon. I don't know what mother race but I've got the visual of a draconic face drooling blood similar to the Xenomorph drools in Aliens

@@AJPickett I couldn't agree more. And we all thought Straad was bad lol

Had a Half dragon Leprechaun villain in one campaign.
Half dragon Thri-keen.
So about that half-dragon drow society (and how do you spell the name of said society) are they also worshiper of Eilistraee.
And there any half-dragon gods
I'll be making a full video about the Draa'zekyl soon.
A golden chain bedroll. Unwieldy and heavy, but satisfying
uncomfortable but shiny!
Improvised weapon club/sap glove
A treasure worth biting someone's hands off for!
Nice plot.
Imagine someone is trying to make a ritual to turn the tarrasque into a half dragon
Tales like these soothe the darkness deep in my soul.
beauty
Did he continue to roleplay as the 8 year old girl? I need to know!
@@notyetdeleted6319 that was our last gaming session
@@notyetdeleted6319 I have seen a group of eight year old girls play red dragon youngling that were multi class as 3rd-level rogues. With 3.5e rules, ... They tag team, dragged off and totally embarrass a group of thirty year olds running 12th-level PCs. I swear they were playing with loaded dice. Last thing you want to do is go up against 13 year olds in play, under hand as all can get.
This is my creation I hope you all enjoys the most draconic character in dnd.
Class(es): Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, Drakewarden Ranger
Race: Half-Dragon Dragonborn
Familiar(s): a half-dragon pseudodragon
The only Half-Dragons I think of are Lizardfolk Half-Dragons. Plenty of Black Dragons lord over swamps utilizing carefully chosen Lizardfolk tribes to produce consorts with which to breed. Inevitably these interactions produce loyal hulking half-breed monstrosities which act as chieftains, proxies for the Black Dragon's domination. I don't know the adventuring party who would willingly go into those swamps.
