Milwaukee has a 12 volt Dremel copy, rotory tool that I keep in my van for trimming bolts. You can buy 1-2" reinforced disks for it. Extremely handy, I routinely trim 1/4" bolts with it. Not as strong as a grinder but really handy.
The Azure motor needs to be programmed with the 115 ac cord. It’s has 1075 speed for clockwise and counterclockwise and 850 for the same. They spin 90 seconds for each speed and rotation you simply unplug it when you see the correct selection. They’re actually good and reliable motors and less expensive in some models.
Speaking of programming it, Maybe it was the audio, but that Azure seemed like it was running at 1075 instead of 850, I thought those 16 SEERs had slower RPM outdoor motors, just observation that's all, not any criticism.
Okay, I'll give you the one argument against shutting a system off. When I lived in an apartment, the condenser fan would fail only after running many hours and then it would upset the compressor and eventually the breaker would trip (a federal pacific breaker no less). When maintenance would come and turn it on, it would run perfectly. The failure seemed to always occur after business hours. So I was looking stupid. On the final fan failure, I called it in as an emergency in the evening and the maintenance man on duty was a decent guy and came right away. At that point he saw the obvious failure. The condenser fan was replaced next day.
Nidec aka USMotors makes ECM replacements as well. The problem with those OEM ECM motors are the internal "module" that has a cheap $2 electronic part that fails. The Gentec Evergreen motors are the replacements for the original Gentec EMC motors that are know to fail often all the time. Those Gentec motors are $800+ and worthless when they first came out. Best to use a substitute like USMotors who don't play around.
What is the app and equipment you are using to check the pressures? Im interested in purchasing something like that instead of traditional gauge setup.
Had a service call last week just like it where the ECM failed on a Rheem 16 seer from 2016. OEM motor was back ordered 4 weeks out and ended up using an azure ECM instead. Couple was in their 70s and had to get it repaired.
Awesome… I have the same condenser unit came with my house brand new system in 2018 _ 90 plus high efficiency unit on the inside too knock on wood no problems yet but my fiancé runs it hard hard she likes it ice cold in the house 🥶🥶☃️⛄️
The factory contactors have enough connections to add the two 220v legs and most replacement PSC motors have long enough wires so, bye, bye expensive ECM. And capacitors are not that expensive. Just make sure to closely match HP and speed.
July 15th makes my 30 years in the business. When they tell me that they did not shut the unit off. I get more and more pissed off as I get older! Before it was a laugh when I was younger. Now I'm pissed because I don't want to deal with changing out a compressor or changing a condenser motor because the guy who's let it run with a bad capacitor.... Either way more money for me but I'm with you brother. Turn the damn thing off if it's not working do you leave your car running when it's not running right.....
If the capacitor is built in the motor what is that capacitor looking cylinder thing on the side of the unit then? Sorry, I don't know a lot about AC repairs.
You still need to have a capacitor for the compressor. So since they're not using one for the fan, that capacitor only has a common and herm terminal simply for the compressor.
Friends of mine had a triple stage Rheem put in. I told them to go basic citing the increased likelihood of problems and much higher repair costs, but they put it in anyway. I have to say it's a beautiful system to live with, and even at 115 degrees it rarely hits third stage and runs the blower on full speed unless you turn down the temp. It just quietly maintains temperature all day long. It also manages to keep indoor humidity 30-40% without a humidifier, which is no small feat in AZ where they are. The day will come when it breaks though, and I can already hear the sob story about how can it break it's not old, and oh my god how is the fix that expensive!? I warned 'em...
On the ECM Motors on the residential single phase you can just change the power pack there are three phase Motors should be the same warnings when you pull the power pack out
@@aringraveshvac9670 I have a 16 SEER Goodman with a PSC. The difference in draw on a 1/4 horse PSC vs ECM is about 20% increase in efficiency. It takes a very long time to overcome that price difference and the ECMs seem to fail a lot more. I have an ECM on my indoor unit, along with a conversion board and a ready PSC motor if it fails. Call me crazy, just don’t trust the ECMs even with surge arrestors on both units.
I'm not a fan of the high efficiency crap. Extra expense for fancy crap that saves a few cents in energy but costs big time when it breaks. Just like the new cars.
It's the bean-counter engineering running rampant throughout many industries. Build it cheap, sell it for a kings ransom for massive profits. Planned obsolescence in overdrive.
How does it work with warranty work. Maybe Steve or someone in the business can help me here. From a techs position. So Steve charges his customers parts and labor. Let’s say he buys a part for $100. Well if he sells it for that same $100 he won’t be in business long. That’s understood. So say he sells it for $175 or $200 plus his time equals the job cost. Now he walks in the door and sees the unit is still under warranty. So he makes a call to the supply house and they give him a part for free. He just lost the mark up on the part, which is needed to stay in business. Right? Is there a labor markup at that point? I assume the warranty covers the part only. Thanks if someone wants to help me understand.
So the Super Cap, gives the jump staaat, to the motor? Otherwise, the Motor or compressor will sit there and generate/heat up and wear out? It's interesting. My oil is good on my caaaar.
If I were paying I’d have you pull the ECM, get a PSC motor and the appropriate dual run capacitor and call it a day. There is no earthly reason for that ECM to be outside on a basic system.
Yeah I can actually damage the unit outside or inside if it's constantly running and something's wrong yeah you're supposed to shut them off and have a text take a look if there's something seriously wrong you'll just leave it running he is right you can't actually damage the unit
I think thats a load of crap what they told you about not putting a PSC motor in there. Rhat ECM motor wasn't a variable speed. Psc motor, hook your cap up and 220 to contactor .they just want to sell those pieces of crap ECM motors.

That 115 plug is used to set the rotation and rpm of the motor before you install it.

For sure running in high speed. Sounded like a jet.
I had the same issue I was told they were 6-10 weeks back order from the factory.. we found one in Florida shipped it to CA . Still took a week ..
You can put in a rescue motor and add capacitor. I done it before
Great job Steve the heat and air parts we get this day and time are junk you and Molly take care

Ordering a fan motor from Amazon would be alot easier than the supplier. Great video
I wouldn't trust many of these "after market" or "universal" parts for the motor, buying the OME motor is a better call
Steve only deals with Robbie at the stores. No time for no junior.
Can you replace that ecm with a regularfan motor with capacitor?
On that unit you can
If it doesn’t have a control board, yes. It will need the capacitor and wired to the contactor. Easy conversion and a lot cheaper than the ECM motor.
I thought it was very possible

It should be warranty especially they are failing a lot

Replaced plenty of those OD Fans. Had motors and caps on the truck. I didn’t know about these motors with built in Caps.
Not really a cap. Just AC rectification to infinitely controllable DC current. Dumb on a CU but government likes it.
You gotta lot of fans lately Steve. The wheel of death is the best tool ever.
Would you be able to just install a standard motor and install a run capacitor in the box and be done with the ECM crap?
I think the base Ruud/Rheem condensers now also have ECM fan motors.
You can swap the ecm motor for a pcs motor. Need to add a contactor, a capacitor, and some wiring.

WTH don't they design these AC's to shut off automatically when somethings not right?
Those controls cost extra.
Not always they don't always shut off automatically sometimes you can burn out the controls by leaving it on like if it's ran out of freon
@@picklerix6162 Plus they'd hurt sales because people wouldn't be replacing the systems they burnt out keeping it running
