- The German flag-carrier Lufthansa tries to renew its long-haul fleet, and since October 2022, you can see Boeing's Dreamliner in Frankfurt.
Luckily, I had the chance to try the first Boeing 787-9 on a flight from Frankfurt to New York, and now, it was time for the return flight.
Flight LH403 in February 2023 was operated by Lufthansa's third Dreamliner "D-ABPC" and I got a seat in their new Business Class.
This plane was originally built for Hainan Airlines, so it's not the new Allegris Business Class, but it's a modern seat in a 1-2-1 configuration.
At Newark Liberty Airport, I visited the Senator Lounge, before it was time to get on board this brand-new plane.

Great to see Lufthansa introduce a business class cabin where every seat has direct aisle access. I really like the seat- I think the window seats are best for privacy as you could see everything in the centre seats but it may be how your camera was positioned for filming. Sadly the catering on most airlines leaving the USA is a bit disappointing and what let this flight down in my opinion. You always had a smile on your face when you were interacting with the cabin crew, it's good to hear they were friendly and interested in you filming the flight. I also loved your footage of the Austrian 777 at the gate- Austrian are my favourite airline in the Lufthansa group. Interesting that Lufthansa now deploy a 747 on flights between Newark and Frankfurt so you were lucky to experience the Dreamliner. Thanks as always for posting this video!
Thanks 😊 It’s really so great that they finally make a step forward to new planes and better seats, I don’t like the old 2-2-2 configuration and this one here is much better. I‘m so excited about their Allegris Business Class and I hope that I get the chance to try it this year 😁 Yeah, the catering was a bit disappointing but like you said, the crew was so funny and lovely, it was a great flight 👍 Last month I flew with Austrian on board their 777 to Chicago, it was a great flight either and I think this video comes next month 🥂

A bit surprised you quote runway 11 at Newark (EWR/KEWR) for takeoff - it's the "small regional airplane" runway, besides the available runway length being insufficient for a takeoff run for a flight like this one, a typical East Coast-Frankfurt 787-9 weight on that short transatlantic crossing would be somewhere around 200,000 Kgs (440,000 lbs.), divided onto those few tires would be at the runway weight bearing structural pavement limits, if not exceed them. It does appear you're departing on one of the runway 4s - New York City could not be seen after departure on your side... Had you taken the Flight Follower snapshot another minute past 20:56 you would have seen our town just ahead of New Haven, Connecticut. Weather unfortunately is hit-or-miss, looking outside is always best.
How would you have felt if there had been that second seat occupied next to you? Service is pretty standardized on these relatively short transatlantic crossings, all airlines, some passengers foregoing starters in favor of a single dinner course or forfeiting dinner service altogether, breakfast is usually substandard (even in business class) so if you skip a meal it's better to eat an early lunch in Frankfurt or a Weisswurstfruehstueck (breakfast parboiled pork/veal sausage, served with large pretzels, ideally in combination with the Munich Weissbier) once on the ground.
At least Lufthansa still prints a multi-page menu, so does Air France, Deltas is a plain card! If you really want a great dinner you'll have to consider a First Class product, maybe Emirates on their fifth-freedom traffic rights flight to Milan-Malpensa, Italy or Athens (Greece) provide a noteworthy evening meal. I found Singapore's dinner meal amazingly bland on the JFK-Frankfurt route.
Noticed you were not offered a mattress topper, ahh... little details when you're potentially paying USD 3000 for the one-way (flight prices originating in the USA are generally elevated, compared to flights out of Europe).
Secret is: avoid flying nonstop to Germany - very high prices, not enough competition; use another entry point in Europe (example Milan-Malpensa) and connect into Germany. Or take the dynamic vacation carriers: from/to Frankfurt the obvious choice is Condor, now also using brand-new airplanes (A330neo); try neos to/from Milan, they only fly to New York/JFK transatlantic, B787-9, very comfortable; although not a "full" business product, very charming, fantastic meal service and well coordinated operation.

Yeah you’re totally right, I made a mistake with Runway 11, I‘ve double-checked it… normally I use Flightradar to check the informations, but the flight was too long ago. I just saw the Runway 11-29 sign on my video but it was at the corner 11-29 and 22R-4L, so the right Runway was 22R 😂
I like this new configuration much more than the old 2-2-2 configuration, a stranger next to me is sometimes a bit problematic because of the camera 😁 I had flights either, where I skipped parts of the dinner, but during the videos I want to show as much as possible 👍
Our flight time was too short for more amenities, you receive a mattress topper and a pyjama if the flight time is more than 8 hours and if it’s a nightflight.
I will try to fly different airlines, so I hope you stay tuned 🥂

Wow danke :) echt noch nie Langstrecke geflogen? Woran liegt’s denn? Ich finde lange Flüge auch immer viel interessanter als Kurzstrecke, vor allem auch die Kabinen der größeren Flieger 😁
I was never a fan of the Dreamliner, but this one looks fine. I noticed you stayed at the Crown Plaza. When picking a hotel, do you choose from a favorite brand or location or price? Do you live in Frankfurt or do you continue on? Germany is a beautiful country. That was one odd-looking main dish. I should try a flight from NY/NJ, which is a much more direct route and relatively quick. I usually fly from SF or Phx, and we go much more north and over. I have never used bed mode. Sleeping on a jet really freaks me out. That continental breakfast looks perfect for me. I think I know why you get such friendly service on Lufthansa. You have a very friendly, warm smile, and you get what you give. If I may ask, what age are you? I just read what I wrote. Very random, but I am too lazy to change it.

Yeah I stayed in many different hotels, when I want to stay close to the airport the price and location is more important than the brand. If I stay inside the city the location close to a metro station or something like that is important for me. Sometimes I use Airbnb also 😁 Yeah you should try it, at the moment Lufthansa operates their 747-8 to Newark, which is really unique. I live about 1,5h from Frankfurt away, luckily I have 3 huge airports not far away, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Cologne 👍 Thank you so much, I‘m 31 at the moment 😁

Dieses Video sagt mir mal wieder, dass ich alles richtig nache, wenn ich seit Jahren LH vermeide. Was nütz eine engagierte Crew, wenn sie A zu wenig sind und B nur C-Qualität anzubieten haben
Ich vergleiche ausdrücklich NICHT mit QSuite. Hatte letzte Woche bei QR u.A. exakt diesen Sitz (ex Virgin Australia, leider mit Airbag), somit ist das HardProduct vergleichbar. Beim Catering lagen allerdings Welten dazwischen. Dine on Demand Auswahl, Qualität und Präsentation absolut Top. Dazu Matratzenauflage, 2 Kissen, Pyjama und Slipper. Amenity Kit MIT Cremes, Zahnbürste die nicht nach 1x Benutzen auseinanderfällt, IFE 3x so umfangreich, gute Kopfhöhrer usw...
Das ganze auf einem Flug, der sogar etwas kürzer war als Deiner
Ja es ist leider so, Lufthansa kann beim catering und den amenities nicht mit den Airlines wie Qatar oder Emirates mithalten. Da würde sich eher ein Vergleich mit anderen europäischen oder amerikanischen Airlines anbieten 😁
Trotzdem ist es für mich persönlich immer wieder schön eine nette Crew zu haben und mit ihnen auf deutsch zu reden, gibt irgendwie so ein Gefühl von nach Hause kommen, aber kann natürlich auch nur mein persönliches Empfinden sein 😂
Bin wirklich mal gespannt wie die neue Allegris Business Class in der Zukunft ist und hoffe ich kann sie dieses Jahr noch testen.
Nächste Woche kommt übrigens mein dritter Flug mit Qatar in deren 777 und der 2-2-2 Bestuhlung 😁

@@thevacationworld that makes me want to learn it all the more. It is because to the untrained it is a very precise sounding language. I used to work for Qantas as did my late father, I spent months in Europe including Frankfurt and London. My Late Mum’s family were all English and I found the English so stuffy when I visited London but within 5 mins of arriving in Frankfurt I was rolling with laughter and it didn’t stop the whole time. I was shocked that I got on so well with German people, New Zealand and Germany are the two places of many I’ve visited where I felt instantly welcome. Can’t wait to come back some day 😊
