*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*
I'm in Australia and now 60yo. Growing up as a teenager I learnt to fish bailess on a Penn 707Z. Never surfed fish with it but used it as my go to reel for estuary fishing when I wanted a change from sidecasting. The whole "line pick up and retrieve" motion did indeed become second nature. Cheers for the tutorial.
I have to add more. I got it!! I fished with it today about 4 hours. That’s 2nd day in a row so Total it to about 7or 8 hours. I like it now and it is easier once you learn. Now this comes from a guy who’s been surf fishing 40 plus years with a bail. Seemed awkward at start but soon you’ll be looking like a PRO BECAUSE of this GREAT video ZENO Shows you on how to cast and “retrieving” which really is the tricky part or at least for me 😝but keep at it and it comes! If your thing of going bail less 🤘🤘🤘This is a must see video on how to cast and retrieve with a bail less reel !! Great job !! Thanks to the champ ZENO!! I see your casts on video. Your the rocket man buddy!
Thank you very much. I have fished spinners with the bail many years and your demonstration showed me exactly how start the wind. I'm going to add to the tons of tackle I already have with that bail-less! Thanks again!
I’ve been fishing with a bail all my life that’s about 40 years now. I had to get the bail less van staal 250 x series. Man! Gentelman. The video was great as far as getting me to operate in the proper process but and I say but “ God I hate the buts” It isn’t as easy as it looks. I’ve been practicing This being my first day about 3 hours now and I still haven’t gotten it to the point were it feels natural. I’m a surf fisherman and just see to many pros with bail less. I will be one of those guys soon enough. Those guys being the dudes who had the advantage on me lol. Never give up practice makes perfect! Thanks Zeno!
MrPoseidonSurf manual pickup reels are still the mainstay of the pier guys on the gulf coast. VS and Zeebaas are nice reels but the penn 706 still is the trusted workhorse.
Mr.Poseidon if you want to look into the penn Z series you wont be disappointed. I've put mine through the ringer for many years plus they are the most simple reels to maintain and repair.
Hey buddy. I appreciate the info! I definitely will do that. I just finished packing my Jeep and now ready for some rest. I’ll be in Montauk next 2 days. I’m so psyched. Going to be doing some night fishing for stripers. I’ll let you know how it turns out 😁 Thanks Horn 🤘
It’s ok it’s your preference but I have to tell you now 8 months into bailess. I would never go back. I’m to used to it. It comes easy to me now. It’s all good buddy. I hope to see you on the surf one day. 👍
tough to be cognizant of when the lure hits the water when its pitch dark out and the crashing waves drown out the sound of your plug hitting the surface
Just got a Penn bailless reel.....I noticed that sometimes when I cast, the line will get hung up on the roller.....I've already lost a plug or two like this.....Any suggestions?
Just set up a modified Mitchell 406 case with a manual bail and the slower gear internals of a donor 306. Kept the 406 ball bearing pinion bushing. Going to be interested to see how this longer handled, bail-less and slower geared reel performs next spring. 🎣
I have a VS150L bail less reel and I follow the same technique since I began to use it some years ago, and really, I never have any problem doing it. Given that usually I use a 1.5-2oz lure, I wear gloves to protect my fingers from braided at the moment of casting, so putting the line back to the line roller does never bother me at all. I also noticed the bandage in his finger, but I'm not sure whether he is using the bandage to protect from casting or putting back the line. Anyway, I believe using a bail less or bailed reel is just a matter of use and habit or every angler.
if you're reading this, I have trouble catching the line at night even with the finger closing the gap. any tips/suggestions. I do like the bailess though because people have lost lures sometimes with the bail and the bail is one more thing to get sand in.
It’s been a few months now. I’ve gotten the gist of it! Now when I use my Stella which has a bail I see the difference. It’s a nuisance. That’s just my personal feeling toward the models which have bails that I own. I’ve gotten so used to my Bailess Van Staal that I forgot to pull back the bail on the Stella and snapped a 20$ lure right off! I could never go back to a bail guys. Bailess is truly the way to go! That’s just my own personal feeling going Bailess. For you guys thinking of it? Well once you get the swing of it, and that doesn’t mean one cast and the end result review of it “sucks”. Just keep casting until it becomes natural. That means just keep practicing! I mean many, many, --->MANY casts and in the end if your truly practicing, you will not regret it.Trust me on that. If you still love your bail, no worries keep on fishing and enjoy buddies. Fishing is fishing and in the end as long as your having fun your always KING 👍
I use bail less for mostly jigging so I start to reel in when the bait hits the water and reel up the slack hopefully before that fresh clam hits the bottom cause the stripers were right on it... two little taps and if you miss the clam is usually gone... fabulous year this year
Good video. I think this will answer a lot of question for the people who had no idea bout these style reels. I didn't know anything bout me zb it took me a couple outings to get the feel. I will never go back to bails for surfcasting
Sorry new to this, how do you let line out on a bail less spin reel? Doesn’t nt Flipping the bail releases the line so it goes out ? How does line irelease on a bail-less spin reel?
thanks for the reply. I was wondering since all of the bean waders have a built in wading belt, and it looked like you had a separate one, although it didnt look like the wader had belt loops
Hello, thank you for your videos. I've been watching them for a while and they're very informative. I was wondering if you happen to know what's going on with Zeebaas? I've been trying to buy their zx2-25 reel but no stores have it and when I tried contacting the company, there was no response. Do you know anything about that?
i agree with losing a plug now and then from premature bail-closings, but usually you were strong-arming the cast to begin with. Besides, my Battle 6000 has heavy duty bail and I have no closure issues. If your bail resembles a bent-out paper clip, its gonna be a problem. on cheaper reels its easy to just whip the bail off, anyway. point is, i dont see the need to buy a bail-less when you can make any reel bailless. About the conventional reels: Murphy's Law waiting to happen with those... just my .02
My problem is keep holding the reel stem between my middle And ring finger I’m gonna try keeping my ring finger on top of the stem with just my pinky on the bottom as shown in video hopefully watching this helps thanks
where can i buy bail less spinning reels? tried googling, looking at local shop, and van staals costs too much. i've made a custom rod that needs a decent bail less reel.
Penn 6500 BLS. It's $160 and it's watertight. Not waterproof like VS or Torque but it can dunk and splash and it handles it with no problem at all. Just freshwater wash after use. It's bailess.
BrooklynStriper Thats all i use is braid.I tried the bandage thing.I even tried this leather finger thing they sell in the fishing stores. The best way to cast braid is to push down really tight on the line when casting. With a bandage it gets caught.Especially if the line is really wet.
₪cobone₪ it's more about the release where the braid eventually cuts into your finger. Try using Johnson and Johnson waterproof bandage tape. lasts a while and doesnt get caught - at least for me it doesnt.
...and what if some manufacturer created a bit larger (whatever the part the line catches on and respools the line) with a bit of a V to it,making it even easier?
Want to buy seebazz, but I have some questions before I drop the money. I have tried calling and emailing with no response. Is there another number or email I could reach someone at? Thanks for any help you can give me Michael,NC
megasif That is true. 6500 can't be turned under water but that skishing stuff is pretty crazy..lol. Just standing on a rock in the dark is enough for me.
Kenny Cannon You said two important things that men need to know and that is that a 6500 is an appropriate ocean size reel and that value is what you see in the Spinfisher V. I've told the guy at J&H exactly that that a 6500 is a big fish reel b/c he claims that a 4500 is a tuna reel. I told him that 4500 is a freshwater reel. For my applications regarding the freshwater stripers from shore, a 4500 is sufficient. I don't do surf fishing, for I live in CA. There's no such thing. Well, when I'm at the ocean. I usually don't enjoy the beach at all but play at the end of piers....LOL. I just heard most of these surf fishing stuff from YT. LOL. But it is very true. I have no freaking clue. I just do a lot searching and reading. Yeah, staying on a rock in the surf is cool unless you get waved away. I hear that even at knee high depths your face can get pounded. Hey Kenny, would you recommend me some effective topwater lures or plugs to use for stripers where you from???...I want to see if they will work here. I'm into that right now, esp. the wooden kind, but all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.
I always said I wish I could afford a good bailless real. instead I had to replaced my bail 2x already on my pen 6500 sf!I should have spent the extra $ upfront
If there cleaning out backlashes there not a good fiaherman I can set a baitcaster it will never backlash and I dont use my thumb to keep from backlashing no thumb no backlash
To be honest, I am a big basitcaster fan, but the way the spinning reels are made these days is hard to find a reason to use a baitcaster instead. In the past, you could complain is hard to fish bait without a clicker. Apart from the Baitrunner type reels from Shimano, they now also have a design feature called Instant Drag, half a turn can take you from almost free spool with minimal tension to high drag.

Have to look into the penn class. I love the experience of something new 👍😁

I'm in that complicated area of fishing again
lmAO!
haha this and fly fishing lol
This is the equivalent to Spey casting in the fly fishing world. Makes no real sense and not that beneficial.
@@alexadams4132 watch Montauk rocks and you’ll see why it’s an advantage

+Steve MacDonald penn stepped up the bail game. i own a spinfisher v 6500 and never had a prob either.
Would really strong wind and a slack line not be a problem in the dark.

I ordered one a few days before going on a trip last week..no idea of name..Wader Aquastealth Boot Foot ?
👍🏾 I’m going to cut the bail off of my Shimano and give it a try🤷♂️🎣
please don’t. you’ll throw off the balance of your reel
Nice video but I must agree with cobone down there. That's why I'm going with the bail but with manual bail trip....oh yah.
Rod and reel setup please?
how does this work at night ? what size zb is that ? thx.

Buy a regular reel and cut the bail off lol
+1992pv buy an old 706 Penn from the 1970s.
Which bean waders are you sporting here?
I'll have to look into this.
Why don't you'll use the Breakaway Cannon Bionic Finger Casting Aid
CTS Vapor Trail
Thank you , good to know
Nice👍
Hola .por favor los datos exatos de la caña y carrete en español.
Yea that's why he has a bandage around his finger.Because his finger became the bail..Ive tried both.Don't like the bail less at all.
actually he has the bandage around his finger because he's fishing braid. we do that to protect our finger when casting, bail or no bail.

hockey tape works like a charm

100% waterproof fishing reel?

customer service was always an issue with them as they were a small co
I recommend only the Spin Fisher V and the Saltist.
Spinfisher 6500 BLS is the best value on the market for surf casters.
Kenny Cannon I agree unless you go skishing...or whatever they call it when you fish underwater.
Some of the Van Staals also has manual bail trip as I can recall from J&H.
megasif That is true. 6500 can't be turned under water but that skishing stuff is pretty crazy..lol. Just standing on a rock in the dark is enough for me.

Not even gonna try; have short, stubby sausage fingers. Love how people generalize things that work for them, so it should work for everyone.
Well, it might be easy for that man to cast and retrieve, but i will stick with the reel with bail.
Bail-less is pointless 👍
I like the idea of bail less , but honestly your finger worries me.
That's not a bandage; it's sports tape.
I watch only for his cool accent!
I always said I wish I could afford a good bailless real. instead I had to replaced my bail 2x already on my pen 6500 sf!I should have spent the extra $ upfront
why not just use a baitcaster then?
baitcaster under water?..good luck with that
Oh so baitcasters underwater are unlucky? Thanks for responding without telling me much appreciated
no, they get filled with sand and water if retrieved under water..besides, most surfcasters would spend more time cleaning out backlashes than fishing
If there cleaning out backlashes there not a good fiaherman I can set a baitcaster it will never backlash and I dont use my thumb to keep from backlashing no thumb no backlash

Yeah ! thanks but no thanks ! I think I will stick to my reel with the bail ! call me old fashioned .
Not as easy as he said it was I'll stick to my baitcasting reels never let me down spinning reels suck !
if you can't handle a bail don't fish haha
shut up stupid
